1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion and that are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the renowned of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come. 2 Pass unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go to Hamath the great; and go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? 3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 4 that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves from the midst of the stall; 5 that chant to the sound of the lute, and invent them instruments of music, like David; 6 that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments; but are not grieved for the breach of Joseph. 7 Therefore shall they now go captive, with the first that go captive, and the revelry of them that stretched themselves shall pass away.

8 The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts, I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; and I will deliver up the city with all that is therein. 9 And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. 10 And a man’s uncle, and he that should burn him, shall take him up to bring out the bones from the house, and shall say unto him that is in the inner parts of the house, Is there yet anywith thee? and he shall say, None. And he will say, Silence! for we may not make mention of Jehovah’s name. 11 For behold, Jehovah commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts. 12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will men plough thereon with oxen? For ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood, 13 — ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us power by our own strength? 14 For behold, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts, I will raise up against you a nation; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hamath unto the torrent of the Arabah.

Sunt oare cetățile acestea mai înfloritoare*Naum 3:8. decât cele două împărății ale voastre și este ținutul lor mai întins decât al vostru?… 3 Credeți*Ezec. 12:27. că ziua nenorocirii*Cap. 5:18;9:10. este departe și faceți să se apropie*Cap. 5:12. Vers. 12. domnia silniciei*Ps. 94:20.. 4 Ei se culcă pe paturi de fildeș și stau întinși alene pe așternuturile lor; mănâncă miei din turmă și viței puși la îngrășat. 5 Aiurează*Is. 5:12. în sunetul alăutei, se cred iscusiți ca David*1 Cron. 23:5. în instrumentele de muzică. 6 Beau vin cu pahare largi, se ung cu cel mai bun untdelemn și nu se întristează de prăpădul*Gen. 37:25. lui Iosif! 7 De aceea vor merge în robie în fruntea prinșilor de război și vor înceta strigătele de veselie ale acestor desfătați. 8 Domnul*Ier. 51:14.Evr. 6:13,17. Dumnezeu a jurat pe Sine Însuși și Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor a zis: „Mi-e scârbă de mândria*Ps. 47:4.Ezec. 24:12. Cap. 8:7. lui Iacov și-i urăsc palatele, de aceea voi da în mâna vrăjmașului cetatea cu tot ce este în ea." 9 Și, dacă vor mai rămâne zece oameni într-o casă, vor muri. 10 Când unchiul său va lua pe cel mort să-l ardă, ridicându-i oasele din casă, și va întreba pe cel din fundul casei: „Mai este cineva cu tine?", acela va răspunde: „Nimeni…" Iar celălalt va zice: „Tăcere*Cap. 5:13.! Căci*Cap. 8:3. nu trebuie să pomenim acum Numele Domnului!" 11 Căci iată că Domnul*Is. 55:11. poruncește să se dărâme casa cea mare*Cap. 3:15. și să se facă bucăți casa cea mică. 12 Pot caii să alerge pe o stâncă? Sau poate cineva să are marea cu boii, de ați prefăcut judecata în otravă*Osea 10:4. Cap. 5:7. și roada dreptății în pelin? 13 Vă bucurați de lucruri de nimic și ziceți: „Oare nu prin tăria noastră am câștigat noi putere?" 14 „De aceea, iată, voi ridica*Ier. 5:15. împotriva voastră, casa lui Israel", zice Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor, „un neam care vă va asupri de la intrarea Hamatului*Num. 34:8.1 Împ. 8:65. până la pârâul pustiei."
