1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing is true, but the appointed time of trial is long; and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. 2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks: 3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three full weeks were fulfilled. 4 And on the four-and-twentieth day of the first month, I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel: 5 and I lifted up mine eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, and his loins were girded with pure gold of Uphaz; 6 and his body was like a chrysolite, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as torches of fire, and his arms and his feet as the look of burnished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. 7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision; and the men that were with me saw not the vision, but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves. 8 And I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me; and my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. 9 And I heard the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, I fell into a deep stupor on my face, and my face to the ground.

10 And behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and the palms of my hands. 11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words which I speak unto thee, and stand upright; for unto thee am I now sent. And as he spoke this word unto me, I stood trembling. 12 And he said unto me, Fear not, Daniel; for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to understand, and to humble thyself before thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim thy words were heard, and I am come because of thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. 14 And I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people at the end of the days: for the vision is yet for many days. 15 And as he was speaking with me according to these words, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb. 16 And behold, one after the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; and I opened my mouth and spoke, and said unto him that stood before me, My lord, by reason of the vision my pains are turned upon me, and I retain no strength. 17 And how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remaineth no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. 18 Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me; 19 and he said, Fear not, man greatly beloved; peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And as he was speaking with me I was strengthened, and I said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. 20 And he said, Knowest thou wherefore I am come unto thee? And now I return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I go forth, behold, the prince of Greece shall come. 21 However, I will declare unto thee that which is set down in the scripture of truth; and there is not one that sheweth himself strong with me against these, but Michael your prince.

Cuvântul*Cap. 8:26.Apoc. 19:9. acesta, care este adevărat, vestește o mare nenorocire*Vers. 14.. El a fost cu luare aminte la cuvântul acesta și a priceput*Cap. 1:17;8:16. vedenia. 2 În vremea aceea, eu, Daniel, trei săptămâni am fost în jale. 3 N-am mâncat deloc bucate alese, nu mi-a intrat în gură nici carne, nici vin și nici nu m-am uns*Mat. 6:17. deloc, până s-au împlinit cele trei săptămâni. 4 În a douăzeci și patra zi a lunii întâi, eram pe malul râului celui mare, care este Hidechel*Gen. 2:14. (Tigru). 5 Am ridicat*Ios. 5:13. ochii, m-am uitat și iată că acolo stătea un om*Cap. 12:6,7. îmbrăcat în haine de in și încins*Apoc. 1:13-15;15:6. la mijloc cu un brâu de aur*Ier. 10:9. din Ufaz. 6 Trupul lui era ca o piatră de crisolit*Ezec. 1:16., fața îi strălucea ca fulgerul*Ezec. 1:14. și ochii*Apoc. 1:14;19:12. îi erau niște flăcări ca de foc, dar brațele și picioarele*Ezec. 1:7.Apoc. 1:15. semănau cu niște aramă lustruită și glasul*Ezec. 1:24.Apoc. 1:15. lui tuna ca vuietul unei mari mulțimi. 7 Eu, Daniel, am văzut singur*2 Împ. 6:17.Fapte 9:7. vedenia, dar oamenii care erau cu mine n-au văzut-o; totuși au fost apucați de o mare spaimă și au luat-o la fugă ca să se ascundă! 8 Eu am rămas singur și am văzut această mare vedenie. Puterile m-au lăsat*Cap. 8:27., culoarea mi s-a schimbat*Cap. 7:28., fața mi s-a sluțit și am pierdut orice vlagă. 9 Am auzit glasul cuvintelor lui și, pe când*Cap. 8:18. auzeam glasul cuvintelor lui, am căzut leșinat cu fața la pământ. 10 Și iată că o mână*Ier. 1:9. Cap. 9:21.Apoc. 1:17. m-a atins și m-a așezat tremurând pe genunchii și mâinile mele. 11 Apoi mi-a zis: „Daniele, om preaiubit*Cap. 9:23. și scump, fii cu luare aminte la cuvintele pe care ți le voi spune acum și stai în picioare în locul unde ești, căci acum sunt trimis la tine!" După ce mi-a vorbit astfel, am stat în picioare tremurând. 12 El mi-a zis: „Daniele, nu te teme*Apoc. 1:17. de nimic! Căci cuvintele tale au fost ascultate*Cap. 9:3,4,22,23.Fapte 10:4. din cea dintâi zi, când ți-ai pus inima ca să înțelegi și să te smerești înaintea Dumnezeului tău, și tocmai din pricina cuvintelor tale vin eu acum! 13 Dar căpetenia*Vers. 20. împărăției Persiei mi-a stat împotrivă douăzeci și una de zile, și iată că Mihail*Vers. 21. Cap. 12:1.Iuda 9.Apoc. 12:7., una din căpeteniile cele mai de seamă, mi-a venit în ajutor și am ieșit biruitor acolo, lângă împărații Persiei. 14 Acum vin să-ți fac cunoscut ce are să se întâmple poporului tău în vremurile de apoi*Gen. 49:1. Cap. 2:28., căci*Cap. 8:26. Vers. 1.Hab. 2:3. vedenia este cu privire tot la acele vremuri îndepărtate." 15 Pe când îmi spunea el aceste lucruri, eu mi-am plecat ochii*Vers. 9. Cap. 8:18. în pământ și am tăcut. 16 Și iată că cineva*Cap. 8:15. care avea înfățișarea copiilor oamenilor s-a atins*Vers. 10.Ier. 1:9. de buzele mele. Eu am deschis gura, am vorbit și am zis celui ce stătea înaintea mea: „Domnul meu, vedenia aceasta m-a umplut de groază*Vers. 8. și am pierdut orice putere! 17 Cum ar putea robul domnului meu să vorbească domnului meu? Acum puterile m-au părăsit și nu mai am nici suflare!" 18 Atunci, cel ce avea înfățișarea unui om m-a atins din nou și m-a întărit. 19 Apoi mi-a zis*Vers. 11.: „Nu te teme*Jud. 6:23. de nimic, om preaiubit! Pace ție! Fii tare și cu inimă!" Și, pe când îmi vorbea el, am prins iar puteri și am zis: „Vorbește, domnul meu, căci m-ai întărit." 20 El mi-a zis: „Știi pentru ce am venit la tine? Acum mă întorc să mă lupt împotriva căpeteniei*Vers. 13. Persiei și, când voi pleca, iată că va veni căpetenia Greciei! 21 Dar vreau să-ți fac cunoscut ce este scris în cartea adevărului. Nimeni nu mă ajută împotriva acestora, afară de voievodul vostru Mihail*Vers. 13.Iuda 9.Apoc. 12:7..
