1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. 2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the wicked, and love them that hate the LORD? for this thing wrath is upon thee from before the LORD. 3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast put away the Asheroth out of the land, and hast set thine heart to seek God. 4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again among the people from Beer-sheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD, the God of their fathers. 5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city, 6 and said to the judges, Consider what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD; and he is with you in the judgment. 7 Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts. 8 Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites and the priests, and of the heads of the fathers’ houses of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies. And they returned to Jerusalem. 9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart. 10 And whensoever any controversy shall come to you from your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall warn them, that they be not guilty towards the LORD, and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not be guilty. 11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the LORD be with the good.

1 Josafá, rei de Judá, voltou em paz para a sua casa, em Jerusalém. 2 O vidente Jeú, filho de Hanani, saiu ao encontro do rei Josafá e lhe disse:

— Será que você devia ajudar o perverso e amar aqueles que odeiam o Senhor Deus? Por isso, a ira do Senhor caiu sobre você. 3 No entanto, boas coisas foram encontradas em você, porque tirou os postes da deusa Aserá da terra e pôs no coração o propósito de buscar a Deus.

4 Josafá morou em Jerusalém. Ele tornou a passar pelo povo desde Berseba até a região montanhosa de Efraim e fez com que o povo voltasse ao Senhor, o Deus de seus pais. 5 Nomeou juízes no país, em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá, de cidade em cidade. 6 Disse aos juízes:

— Vejam bem o que vão fazer, porque vocês não estão julgando em nome de homens, e sim em nome do Senhor. E, ao julgarem, ele estará com vocês. 7 E agora, que o temor do Senhor esteja com vocês. Tenham cuidado com o que vão fazer, porque o Senhor, nosso Deus, não admite injustiça nem parcialidade, e também não aceita suborno.

8 Além disso, em Jerusalém Josafá nomeou alguns dos levitas, dos sacerdotes e dos chefes das famílias de Israel para julgarem em nome do Senhor e decidirem as questões de litígio. Por isso, moravam em Jerusalém. 9 Deu-lhes a seguinte ordem:

— Façam tudo isto no temor do Senhor, com fidelidade e coração íntegro. 10 Sempre que os seus irmãos que moram nas cidades trouxerem uma questão relacionada com homicídio ou referente a lei e mandamento, estatutos e juízos, vocês devem admoestá-los, para que não se façam culpados diante do Senhor e para que não venha grande ira sobre vocês e sobre os seus irmãos. Façam assim e vocês não serão culpados. 11 Eis que Amarias, o sumo sacerdote, presidirá nas coisas que dizem respeito ao Senhor, e Zebadias, filho de Ismael, chefe da casa de Judá, nas que dizem respeito ao rei. Também os levitas serão oficiais à disposição de vocês. Sejam fortes no cumprimento disso, e que o Senhor esteja com os bons.
