1 Hezekiah began to reign when he was five and twenty years old; and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah. 2 And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done. 3 He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the door of the house of the LORD, and repaired them. 4 And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the broad place on the east, 5 and said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites; now sanctify yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD, the God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place. 6 For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the sight of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs. 7 Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel. 8 Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to be tossed to and fro, to be an astonishment, and an hissing, as ye see with your eyes. 9 For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. 10 Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, that his fierce anger may turn away from us. 11 My sons, be not now negligent: for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to minister unto him, and that ye should be his ministers, and burn incense. 12 Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites: and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel: and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah: 13 and of the sons of Elizaphan, Shimri and Jeuel: and of the sons of Asaph, Zechariah and Mattaniah: 14 and of the sons of Heman, Jehuel and Shimei: and of the sons of Jeduthun, Shemaiah and Uzziel. 15 And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and went in, according to the commandment of the king by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD. 16 And the priests went in unto the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad to the brook Kidron. 17 Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD; and they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days: and on the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end. 18 Then they went in to Hezekiah the king within the palace, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the table of shewbread, with all the vessels thereof. 19 Moreover all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away when he trespassed, have we prepared and sanctified; and, behold, they are before the altar of the LORD. 20 Then Hezekiah the king arose early, and gathered the princes of the city, and went up to the house of the LORD. 21 And they brought seven bullocks; and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he-goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD. 22 So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar: and they killed the rams, and sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and sprinkled the blood upon the altar. 23 And they brought near the he-goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them: 24 and the priests killed them, and they made a sin offering with their blood upon the altar, to make atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel. 25 And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet: for the commandment was of the LORD by his prophets. 26 And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. 27 And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar, And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also, and the trumpets, together with the instruments of David king of Israel. 28 And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished. 29 And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves and worshipped. 30 Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praises unto the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped. 31 Then Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings; and as many as were of a willing heart brought burnt offerings. 32 And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD. 33 And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep. 34 But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the priests had sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests. 35 And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and with the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order. 36 And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, because of that which God had prepared for the people: for the thing was done suddenly.

1 Ezequias tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Abia e era filha de Zacarias. 2 Ezequias fez o que era reto aos olhos do Senhor, segundo tudo o que Davi, seu pai, havia feito.

3 No primeiro ano do seu reinado, no primeiro mês, abriu os portões da Casa do Senhor e os reparou. 4 Trouxe os sacerdotes e os levitas, reuniu-os na praça leste 5 e lhes disse:

— Escutem, levitas! Santifiquem agora a si mesmos e santifiquem a Casa do Senhor, Deus de seus pais. Tirem do santuário tudo o que é impuro. 6 Porque nossos pais foram infiéis e fizeram o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, nosso Deus, e o abandonaram. Desviaram o seu rosto do tabernáculo do Senhor e lhe viraram as costas. 7 Também fecharam os portões do pórtico, apagaram as lâmpadas, não queimaram incenso, nem ofereceram holocaustos no santuário ao Deus de Israel. 8 Por isso a ira do Senhor veio sobre Judá e Jerusalém, e ele os transformou em objeto de espanto, de horror e de vaias, como vocês estão vendo com os seus próprios olhos. 9 Porque eis que os nossos pais caíram à espada, e, por isso, os nossos filhos, as nossas filhas e as nossas mulheres foram para o cativeiro.

10 — Agora estou resolvido a fazer uma aliança com o Senhor, Deus de Israel, para que o furor da sua ira se afaste de nós. 11 Meus filhos, não sejam negligentes, pois o Senhor os escolheu para estarem diante dele para o servirem, para serem os seus ministros e queimarem incenso.

12 Então se levantaram os seguintes levitas: Maate, filho de Amasai, e Joel, filho de Azarias, dos filhos dos coatitas; Quis, filho de Abdi, e Azarias, filho de Jealelel, dos filhos de Merari; Joá, filho de Zima, e Éden, filho de Joá, dos filhos de Gérson; 13 Sinri e Jeuel, dos filhos de Elisafã; Zacarias e Matanias, dos filhos de Asafe; 14 Jeuel e Simei, dos filhos de Hemã; Semaías e Uziel, dos filhos de Jedutum.

15 Congregaram os seus irmãos, santificaram-se e vieram, cumprindo a ordem do rei, segundo as palavras do Senhor, para purificar a Casa do Senhor. 16 Os sacerdotes entraram na Casa do Senhor, para a purificar, e tiraram para fora, ao pátio da Casa do Senhor, todas as coisas impuras que encontraram no templo do Senhor. E os levitas pegaram essas coisas e as levaram para fora, ao vale do Cedrom. 17 Começaram a santificar no primeiro dia do primeiro mês e no oitavo dia do mês chegaram ao pórtico do Senhor. Em oito dias santificaram a Casa do Senhor e no décimo sexto dia do mês terminaram.

18 Então foram falar com o rei Ezequias no palácio e disseram:

— Já purificamos toda a Casa do Senhor, bem como o altar do holocausto com todos os seus utensílios e a mesa da proposição com todos os seus objetos. 19 Também todos os objetos que o rei Acaz, em sua infidelidade, jogou fora durante o seu reinado, nós já preparamos e santificamos; e eis que estão diante do altar do Senhor.

20 Então o rei Ezequias se levantou de madrugada, reuniu os chefes da cidade e subiu à Casa do Senhor. 21 Mandou trazer sete novilhos, sete carneiros, sete cordeiros e sete bodes, como oferta pelo pecado a favor do reino, do santuário e de Judá; e ordenou aos filhos de Arão, os sacerdotes, que os oferecessem sobre o altar do Senhor. 22 Mortos os novilhos, os sacerdotes pegaram o sangue e o aspergiram sobre o altar; mataram os carneiros e aspergiram o sangue sobre o altar; também mataram os cordeiros e aspergiram o sangue sobre o altar. 23 Para oferta pelo pecado, trouxeram os bodes diante do rei e da congregação, e estes puseram as mãos sobre eles. 24 Os sacerdotes os mataram e, com o sangue, fizeram uma oferta pelo pecado, ao pé do altar, para expiação de todo o Israel, porque o rei havia ordenado que se fizesse aquele holocausto e oferta pelo pecado, por todo o Israel.

25 Também pôs os levitas na Casa do Senhor com címbalos, liras e harpas, segundo o mandado de Davi e de Gade, o vidente do rei, e do profeta Natã. Porque este mandado veio do Senhor, por meio de seus profetas. 26 Os levitas estavam em pé com os instrumentos musicais de Davi, e os sacerdotes tinham as trombetas. 27 Ezequias ordenou que oferecessem o holocausto sobre o altar. No momento em que começou o holocausto, começou também o cântico ao Senhor com as trombetas, ao som dos instrumentos musicais de Davi, rei de Israel. 28 Toda a congregação se prostrou, quando se entoava o cântico, e as trombetas soavam; tudo isto até findar-se o holocausto. 29 Depois que eles terminaram de oferecer o sacrifício, o rei e todos os que estavam com ele se prostraram e adoraram. 30 Então o rei Ezequias e os chefes ordenaram aos levitas que louvassem o Senhor com as palavras de Davi e de Asafe, o vidente. Eles o fizeram com alegria, e se inclinaram, e adoraram.

31 Ezequias tomou a palavra e disse:

— Agora vocês se consagraram ao Senhor. Venham e tragam sacrifícios e ofertas de ação de graças à Casa do Senhor.

A congregação trouxe sacrifícios e ofertas de ação de graças, e todos os que estavam de coração disposto trouxeram holocaustos. 32 O número dos holocaustos que a congregação trouxe foi de setenta bois, cem carneiros e duzentos cordeiros; tudo isto em holocausto para o Senhor. 33 Também foram consagrados seiscentos bois e três mil ovelhas. 34 Os sacerdotes, porém, eram muito poucos e não conseguiam tirar a pele de todos os holocaustos. Por isso os seus irmãos, os levitas, os ajudaram, até findar-se a obra e até que os outros sacerdotes se santificaram. Porque os levitas foram mais retos de coração, para se santificarem, do que os sacerdotes. 35 Além dos holocaustos em abundância, houve também a gordura das ofertas pacíficas e as libações para os holocaustos.

Assim se restabeleceu o ministério da Casa do Senhor. 36 Ezequias e todo o povo se alegraram com o que Deus tinha feito pelo povo, porque esta obra foi feita em pouco tempo.
