1 Au chef des chantres. Cantique de David. A l'occasion du rapport que Doëg, l'Edomite, vint faire à Saül, en lui disant: David s'est rendu dans la maison d'Achimélec. Pourquoi te glorifies-tu de ta méchanceté, tyran? La bonté de Dieu subsiste toujours.2 Ta langue n'invente que malice, comme un rasoir affilé, fourbe que tu es!3 Tu aimes le mal plutôt que le bien, Le mensonge plutôt que la droiture. -Pause.4 Tu aimes toutes les paroles de destruction, Langue trompeuse!5 Aussi Dieu t'abattra pour toujours, Il te saisira et t'enlèvera de ta tente; Il te déracinera de la terre des vivants. -Pause.6 Les justes le verront, et auront de la crainte, Et ils feront de lui le sujet de leurs moqueries:7 Voilà l'homme qui ne prenait point Dieu pour protecteur, Mais qui se confiait en ses grandes richesses, Et qui triomphait dans sa malice!8 Et moi, je suis dans la maison de Dieu comme un olivier verdoyant, Je me confie dans la bonté de Dieu, éternellement et à jamais.9 Je te louerai toujours, parce que tu as agi; Et je veux espérer en ton nom, parce qu'il est favorable, En présence de tes fidèles.

1 To the Overseer. -- An instruction, by David, in the coming in of Doeg the Edomite, and he declareth to Saul, and saith to him, `David came in unto the house of Ahimelech.` What, boasteth thou in evil, O mighty one? The kindness of God [is] all the day.2 Mischiefs doth thy tongue devise, Like a sharp razor, working deceit.3 Thou hast loved evil rather than good, Lying, than speaking righteousness. Selah.4 Thou hast loved all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.5 Also -- God doth break thee down for ever, Taketh thee, and pulleth thee out of the tent, And He hath uprooted thee Out of the land of the living. Selah.6 And the righteous see, And fear, and laugh at him.7 `Lo, the man who maketh not God his strong place, And trusteth in the abundance of his riches, He is strong in his mischiefs.`8 And I, as a green olive in the house of God, I have trusted in the kindness of God, To the age and for ever,9 I thank Thee to the age, because Thou hast done [it], And I wait [on] Thy name for [it is] good before Thy saints!
