1 Alors l'Esprit de Dieu fut sur Hazaria fils de Hoded.

2 C'est pourquoi il sortit au devant d'Asa, et lui dit : Asa, et tout Juda et Benjamin, écoutez-moi. L'Eternel est avec vous tandis que vous êtes avec lui, et si vous le cherchez, vous le trouverez; mais si vous l'abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.

3 Or il y a déjà longtemps qu'Israël est sans le vrai Dieu, sans Sacrificateur enseignant, et sans Loi;

4 Mais lorsque dans leur angoisse ils se sont tournés vers l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël, et qu'ils l'ont cherché, ils l'ont trouvé.

5 En ce temps-là il n'y avait point de sûreté pour ceux qui voyageaient à cause qu'il y avait de grands troubles parmi tous les habitants du pays.

6 Car une nation était foulée par l'autre, et une ville par l'autre, à cause que Dieu les avait troublés par toute sorte d'angoisses.

7 Vous donc fortifiez-vous, et que vos mains ne soient point lâches; car il y a une récompense pour vos œuvres.

8 Or dès qu'Asa eut entendu ces paroles, et la Prophétie de Hoded le Prophète, il se fortifia, et il ôta les abominations de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin, et des villes qu'il avait prises en la montagne d'Ephraïm, et renouvela l'autel de l'Eternel qui était devant le porche de l'Eternel.

9 Puis il assembla tout Juda et tout Benjamin, et ceux d'Ephraïm, de Manassé, et de Siméon qui se tenaient avec eux; car plusieurs d'Israël s'étaient soumis à lui, voyant que l'Eternel son Dieu était avec lui.

10 Ils s'assemblèrent donc à Jérusalem, le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d'Asa;

11 Et ils sacrifièrent en ce jour-là à l'Eternel sept cents bœufs, et sept mille brebis, du butin qu'ils avaient amené.

12 Et ils rentrèrent dans l'alliance, pour rechercher l'Eternel le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur cœur, et de toute leur âme.

13 Tellement qu'on devait faire mourir tous ceux qui ne rechercheraient point l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël, tant les petits que les grands; tant les hommes que les femmes.

14 Et ils jurèrent à l'Eternel à haute voix, et avec de [grands] cris de joie, au son des trompettes, et des cors.

15 Et tout Juda se réjouit de ce serment-là; parce qu'ils avaient juré de tout leur cœur; et qu'ils avaient recherché l'Eternel de toute leur affection. C'est pourquoi ils l'avaient trouvé; et l'Eternel leur donna du repos tout à l'entour.

16 Et même il ôta la régence à Mahaca mère du Roi Asa, parce qu'elle avait fait un simulacre pour un bocage. De plus, Asa mit en pièces le simulacre qu'elle avait fait, il le brisa, et le brûla près du torrent de Cédron.

17 Mais les hauts lieux ne furent point ôtés d'Israël, et néanmoins le cœur d'Asa fut droit tout le temps de sa vie.

18 Et il remit dans la maison de Dieu les choses que son père avait consacrées, et ce que lui-même aussi avait consacré, de l'argent, de l'or et des vaisseaux.

19 Et il n'y eut point de guerre jusqu'à la trente-cinquième année du règne d'Asa.

1 And the spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

3 Now for a long time Israel has been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.

4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great turmoil was upon all the inhabitants of the countries.

6 And nation was destroyed by nation, and city by city: for God did trouble them with all adversity.

7 Be you strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

8 And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken in the mountains of Ephraim, and repaired the altar of the LORD, that was before the vestibule of the LORD.

9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the sojourners with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they came over to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.

10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

11 And they offered unto the LORD on that day some of the plunder which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;

13 That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

14 And they swore unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with horns.

15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.

16 And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an abominable image on an idol pole: and Asa cut down her idol, and crushed it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

17 But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

18 And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

19 And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
