1 Car voici, le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées, s'en va ôter de Jérusalem et de Juda le soutien et l'appui, tout soutien de pain, et tout soutien d'eau.
2 L'homme fort, et l'homme de guerre, le juge et le Prophète, l'homme éclairé sur l'avenir, et l'ancien.
3 Le cinquantenier, et l'homme d'autorité, le conseiller, et l'expert entre les artisans, et le bien-disant;
4 Et je leur donnerai de jeunes gens pour gouverneurs, et des enfants domineront sur eux.
5 Et le peuple sera rançonné l'un par l'autre, et chacun par son prochain. L'enfant se portera arrogamment contre le vieillard, et l'homme abject contre l'honorable.
6 Même un homme prendra son frère de la maison de son père, [et lui dira]; tu as un manteau, sois notre conducteur, et que cette dissipation-ci [soit] sous ta conduite.
7 [Et celui-là] lèvera [la main] en ce jour-là, en disant; je ne saurais y remédier, et en ma maison il n'y a ni pain ni manteau; ne me faites point donc conducteur du peuple.
8 Certes Jérusalem est renversée, et Juda est tombé; parce que leur langue et leurs actions sont contre l'Eternel, pour irriter les yeux de sa gloire.
9 Ce qu'ils montrent sur leur visage rend témoignage contr'eux, ils ont publié leur péché comme Sodome, et ne l'ont point célé ; malheur à leur âme, car ils ont attiré le mal sur eux!
10 Dites au juste, que bien lui sera : car [les justes] mangeront le fruit de leurs œuvres.
11 Malheur au méchant [qui ne cherche qu'à faire] mal; car la rétribution de ses mains lui sera faite.
12 Quant à mon peuple, les enfants sont ses prévôts, et les femmes dominent sur lui. Mon peuple, ceux qui te guident, [te] font égarer, et t'ont fait perdre la route de tes chemins.
13 L'Eternel se présente pour plaider, il se tient debout pour juger les peuples.
14 L'Eternel entrera en jugement avec les Anciens de son peuple, et avec ses Principaux; car vous avez consumé la vigne, et ce que vous avez ravi à l'affligé est dans vos maisons.
15 Que vous revient-il de fouler mon peuple, et d'écraser le visage des affligés? dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées.
16 L'Eternel a dit aussi; parce que les filles de Sion se sont élevées, et ont marché la gorge découverte, et faisant signe des yeux, et qu'elles ont marché avec une fière démarche faisant du bruit avec leurs pieds,
17 L'Eternel rendra chauve le sommet de la tête des filles de Sion, et l'Eternel découvrira leur nudité.
18 En ce temps-là le Seigneur ôtera l'ornement des sonnettes, et les agrafes, et les boucles;
19 Les petites boîtes, et les chaînettes, et les papillotes;
20 Les atours, et les jarretières, et les rubans, et les bagues à senteur, et les oreillettes;
21 Les anneaux, et les bagues qui leur pendent sur le nez;
22 Les mantelets, et les capes, et les voiles, et les poinçons,
23 Et les miroirs, et les crêpes, et les tiares, et les couvre-chefs.
24 Et il arrivera qu'au lieu de senteurs aromatiques, il y aura de la puanteur; et au lieu d'être ceintes, elles seront découvertes, et au lieu de cheveux frisés, elles auront la tête chauve; et au lieu de ceintures de cordon, [elles seront ceintes] de cordes de sac; et au lieu d'un beau teint, elles auront le teint tout hâlé.
25 Tes gens tomberont par l'épée, et ta force par la guerre.
26 Et ses portes se plaindront, et mèneront deuil; et elle sera vidée, et gisante par terre.
1 For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, does take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stock and the store, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water.
2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the elder,
3 The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the skilled craftsman, and the eloquent orator.
4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.
5 And the people shall be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the elder, and the base against the honorable.
6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, you have clothing, be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand:
7 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be a healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.
8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their deeds are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
9 The look on their countenance does witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have brought evil unto themselves.
10 Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.
11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be done to him.
12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.
13 The LORD stands up to plead, and stands to judge the people.
14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and its princes: For you have eaten up the vineyard; the plunder of the poor is in your houses.
15 What do you mean that you beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? says the Lord GOD of hosts.
16 Moreover the LORD says, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and tripping as they go, and making a jingling with their feet:
17 Therefore the Lord will strike with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will uncover their secret parts.
18 In that day the Lord will take away the finery of their jingling ornaments about their ankles, and their scarves, and their crescents,
19 The pendants, and the bracelets, and the veils,
20 The headdresses, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the perfume boxes, and the charms,
21 The rings, and nose rings,
22 The festal robes, and the mantles, and the cloaks, and the handbags,
23 The mirrors, and the fine linen, and the turbans, and the veils.
24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet fragrance there shall be a stench; and instead of a sash, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth; and a burning scar instead of beauty.
25 Your men shall fall by the sword, and your mighty men in the war.
26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
