1 Ecoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, qui êtes appelés du nom d'Israël, et qui êtes issus des eaux de Juda, qui jurez par le nom de l'Eternel, et qui faites mention du Dieu d'Israël, mais non pas conformément à la vérité, et à la justice.

2 Car ils prennent leur nom de la sainte Cité, et s'appuient sur le Dieu d'Israël, duquel le nom est l'Eternel des armées.

3 J'ai déclaré dès jadis les choses qui ont précédé, et elles sont sorties de ma bouche, et je les ai publiées; je les ai faites subitement, et elles sont arrivées.

4 Parce que j'ai connu que tu étais revêche, et que ton cou était [comme une] barre de fer, et que ton front était d'airain;

5 Je t'ai déclaré ces choses dès lors, et je te les ai fait entendre avant qu'elles arrivassent, de peur que tu ne disses; mes dieux ont fait ces choses, et mon image taillée, et mon image de fonte les ont commandées.

6 Tu l'as ouï, vois tout ceci; et vous, ne l'annoncerez-vous pas? je te fais entendre dès maintenant des choses nouvelles, et qui étaient en réserve, et que tu ne savais pas.

7 Maintenant elles ont été créées, et non pas dès jadis, et avant ce jour-ci tu n'en avais rien entendu, afin que tu ne dises pas; voici, je les savais bien.

8 Encore n'as-tu pas entendu; encore n'as-tu pas connu, et depuis ce temps ton oreille n'a point été ouverte; car j'ai connu que tu agirais perfidement; aussi as-tu été appelé Transgresseur dès le ventre.

9 Pour l'amour de mon Nom je différerai ma colère, et pour l'amour de ma louange je retiendrai mon courroux contre toi, afin de ne te retrancher pas.

10 Voici, je t'ai épuré, mais non pas comme [on épure] l'argent; je t'ai élu au creuset de l'affliction.

11 Pour l'amour de moi, pour l'amour de moi je le ferai ; car comment [mon Nom] serait-il profané? certes je ne donnerai point ma gloire à un autre

12 Ecoute-moi, Jacob, et toi Israël, appelé par moi; c'est moi qui suis le premier, et qui suis aussi le dernier.

13 Ma main aussi a fondé la terre, et ma droite a mesuré les cieux à l'empan; quand je le les appelle, ils comparaissent ensemble.

14 Vous tous, assemblez-vous, et écoutez; lequel de ceux-là a déclaré de telles choses? l'Eternel l'a aimé, il mettra en exécution son bon plaisir contre Babylone, et son bras sera contre les Chaldéens.

15 C'est moi, c'est moi qui ai parlé,je l'ai aussi appelé, je l'ai amené, et ses desseins lui ont réussi.

16 Approchez-vous de moi, et écoutez ceci; dès le commencement je n'ai point parlé en secret, au temps que la chose a été faite, j'ai été là. Or maintenant le Seigneur l'Eternel, et son Esprit, m'ont envoyé.

17 Ainsi a dit l'Eternel ton Rédempteur, le Saint d'Israël; je suis l'Eternel ton Dieu, qui t'enseigne à profiter, et qui te guide par le chemin où tu dois marcher.

18 O si tu eusses été attentif à mes commandements! car ta paix eût été comme un fleuve, et ta justice comme les flots de la mer.

19 Et ta postérité eût été [multipliée] comme le sable, et ceux qui sortent de tes entrailles, comme le gravier de la mer; son nom n'eût point été retranché ni effacé de devant ma face.

20 Sortez de Bapylone, fuyez loin des Chaldéens; publiez ceci avec une voix de chant de triomphe, annoncez, publiez ceci, et le mandez dire jusques au bout de la terre; dites, l'Eternel a racheté son serviteur Jacob.

21 Et ils n'ont point eu soif quand il les a fait marcher par les déserts; il leur a fait découler l'eau hors du rocher, même il leur a fendu le rocher, et les eaux en sont découlées.

22 Il n'y a point de paix pour les méchants, a dit l'Eternel.

1 Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and have come forth out of the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

2 For they call themselves after the holy city, and anchor themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.

3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.

4 Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

5 I have even from the beginning declared it to you; before it came to pass I showed it to you: lest you should say, my idol has done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded them.

6 You have heard, now see all this; and will you not declare it? I have showed you new things from this time, even hidden things, and you did not know them.

7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when you heard them not; lest you should say, Behold, I knew them.

8 Yea, you heard not; yea, you knew not; yea, from of old your ear was not opened: for I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.

9 For my name's sake will I defer my anger, and for my praise will I restrain it for you, that I cut you not off.

10 Behold, I have refined you, but not with silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

11 For my own sake, even for my own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be profaned? and I will not give my glory unto another.

12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.

13 My hand also has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spread out the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

14 All you, assemble yourselves, and hear; who among them has declared these things? The LORD has loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.

15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.

16 Come near unto me, hear this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, has sent me.

17 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD your God who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.

18 O that you had hearkened to my commandments! then had your peace been as a river, and your righteousness as the waves of the sea:

19 Your descendants also had been as the sand, and the offspring of your body like its grains; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.

20 Go forth from Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare you, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say, The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob.

21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he split the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

22 There is no peace, says the LORD, unto the wicked.
