1 Voici mon serviteur, je le maintiendrai : c'est mon Elu, [auquel] mon âme prend son bon plaisir; j'ai mis mon Esprit sur lui; il manifestra le jugement aux nations.

2 Il ne criera point, et il ne haussera, ni ne fera ouïr sa voix dans les rues.

3 Il ne brisera point le roseau cassé, et n'éteindra point le lumignon fumant; il mettra en avant le jugement en vérité.

4 Il ne se retirera point, ni ne se hâtera point, qu'il n'ait mis un règlement en la terre; et les Iles s'attendront à sa Loi.

5 Ainsi a dit le [Dieu] Fort, l'Eternel, qui a créé les cieux, et les a étendus, qui a aplani la terre avec ce qu'elle produit, qui donne la respiration au peuple qui est sur elle, et l'esprit à ceux qui y marchent.

6 Moi l'Eternel, je t'ai appelé en justice, et je prendrai ta main, et te garderai; et je te ferai être l'alliance du peuple, et la lumière des nations :

7 Afin d'ouvrir les yeux qui ne voient point, et de retirer les prisonniers hors du lieu où on les tient enfermés, et ceux qui habitent dans les ténèbres, hors de la prison.

8 Je suis l'Eternel, c'est là mon Nom; et je ne donnerai point ma gloire à un autre, ni ma louange aux images taillées.

9 Voici, les choses qui ont été [prédites] auparavant sont arrivées; et je vous en annonce de nouvelles, et je vous les ferai entendre avant qu'elles soient arrivées.

10 Chantez à l'Eternel un nouveau cantique, et que sa louange [éclate] du bout de la terre; que ceux qui descendent en la mer; et tout ce qui est en elle; que les Iles, et leurs habitants;

11 Que le désert et ses villes élèvent [la voix]; que les villages où habite Kédar; et ceux qui habitent dans les rochers éclatent en chant de triomphe; qu'ils s'écrient du sommet des montagnes;

12 Qu'on donne gloire à l'Eternel, et qu'on publie sa louange dans les Iles.

13 L'Eternel sortira comme un homme vaillant, il réveillera sa jalousie comme un homme de guerre, il jettera des cris de joie, il jettera, dis je, de grands cris, et se fortifiera contre ses ennemis.

14 Je me suis tu dès longtemps; me tiendrais-je en repos? me retiendrais-je? je crierai comme celle qui enfante, je détruirai, et j'engloutirai tout ensemble.

15 Je réduirai les montagnes et les coteaux en désert, et je dessécherai toute leur herbe; je réduirai les fleuves en Iles, et je ferai tarir les étangs.

16 Je conduirai les aveugles par un chemin [qu']ils ne connaissent point, je les ferai marcher par des sentiers qu'ils ne connaissent point; je réduirai devant eux les ténèbres en lumière, et les choses tortues en choses droites; je leur ferai de telles choses, et je ne les abandonnerai point.

17 Que ceux-là donc se retirent en arrière, et soient tout honteux, qui se confient aux images taillées, et qui disent aux images de fonte; vous êtes nos dieux.

18 Sourds, écoutez; et vous aveugles regardez et voyez.

19 Qui est aveugle, sinon mon serviteur? et qui est sourd, comme mon messager que j'ai envoyé? Qui est aveugle, comme celui que j'ai comblé de grâces? qui, dis-je, est aveugle, comme le serviteur de l'Eternel?

20 Vous voyez beaucoup de choses, mais vous ne prenez garde à rien; vous avez les oreilles ouvertes, mais vous n'entendez rien.

21 L'Eternel prenait plaisir [en lui] à cause de sa justice; il magnifiait [sa] Loi, et le rendait honorable.

22 Mais c'est ici un peuple pillé et fourragé; ils seront tous enlacés dans les cavernes, et seront cachés dans les prisons; ils seront en pillage, et il n'y aura personne qui les délivre; [ils seront] fourragés, et il n'y aura personne qui dise; restituez.

23 Qui est celui d'entre vous qui prêtera l'oreille à ceci, qui y sera attentif, et qui l'entendra dorénavant?

24 Qui est-ce qui a livré Jacob au pillage, et Israël aux fourrageurs? N'a-ce pas été l'Eternel, contre lequel nous avons péché? Parce qu'on n'a point agréé de marcher dans ses voies, et qu'on n'a point écouté sa Loi.

25 C'est pourquoi il a répandu sur lui la fureur de sa colère, et une forte guerre; et il l'a embrasé tout alentour, mais [Israël] ne l'a point connu; et tu l'as brûlé, mais il ne s'en est point soucié.

1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth justice unto truth.

4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he has established justice in the earth: and the coastlands shall wait for his law.

5 Thus says God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; he that gives breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk in it:

6 I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant to the people, for a light to the Gentiles;

7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the ends of the earth, you that go down to the sea, and all that is in it; the coastlands, and its inhabitants.

11 Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar does inhabit: let the inhabitants of Sela sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.

12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the coastlands.

13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, shout aloud; he shall prevail against his enemies.

14 I have long time held my peace; I have been still, and restrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.

15 I will lay waste the mountains and hills, and dry up all their vegetation; and I will turn the rivers into islands, and I will dry up the pools.

16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, you are our gods.

18 Hear, you deaf; and look, you blind, that you may see.

19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger whom I sent? who is blind as he who is perfect, and blind as the LORD's servant?

20 Seeing many things, but you observe not; opening the ears, but he hears not.

21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable.

22 But this is a people robbed and plundered; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivers; for a spoil, and none says, Restore.

23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?

24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

25 Therefore he has poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it has set him on fire all around, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
