1 Nā, ka mea a Horomona kia hangā he whare mō te ingoa o Ihowā, he whare hoki mō tōna kīngitanga. 2 Nā, ka taua e Horomona e whitu tekau mano tāngata hei kaipīkau, e waru tekau mano hoki hei tua i runga i te maunga, me ngā kaitirotiro i a rātou e toru mano e ono rau.

3 Nā, ka tuku tāngata a Horomona ki a Hūrāma kīngi o Tāira hei kī atu:

"Kia rite ki tāu i mea ai ki tōku pāpā, ki a Rāwiri; i tukua mai hoki e koe he hīta kia kawea mai māna, hei hanga i tētahi whare mōna hei nohoanga, kia pērā hoki tāu ki ahau. 4 Nanā, ka hangā e ahau he whare mō te ingoa o Ihowā, o tōku Atua, ka whakatapua mōna, hei tahunga mō te whakakakara reka ki tōna aroaro, mō te taro aroaro tūturu, mō ngā tahunga tinana o te ata, o te ahiahi, o ngā hāpati, o ngā kōwhititanga marama, o ngā hākari o Ihowā, o tō mātou Atua. He tikanga tēnei ake ake mā Īharaira.

5 "Nā, he nui te whare ka hangā nei e ahau; he nui hoki tō mātou Atua i ngā atua katoa. 6 Otiia ko wai e āhei te hanga whare mōna? Kāhore nei hoki e nui te rangi me te rangi o ngā rangi hei nohoanga mōna. Ko wai koia ahau hei hanga whare mōna, heoi nei hei tahu whakakakara ki tōna aroaro?

7 "Tēnā, ungā mai ki ahau tētahi tangata e mōhio ana ki te mahi i te kōura, i te hiriwa, i te parāhi, i te rino, i te mea pāpura, whero, purū, e mōhio ana ki te mahi i ngā āhua whakairo katoa, hei hoa mō te hunga mōhio i ahau nei, i a Hūrā, i Hiruhārama, mō te hunga i whakatūtūria e tōku pāpā, e Rāwiri.

8 "Tukua mai anō hoki ki ahau he rākau hīta, he kauri, he aramuka i Repanōna; e mātau ana hoki ahau he hunga mōhio āu tāngata ki te tapahi rākau i Repanōna. Nā, ko āku tāngata hei hoa mō āu tāngata, 9 hei whakapai rākau māku, kia maha; nō te mea he nui te whare ka hangā nei e ahau, he mea ka mīharotia. 10 Nanā, ko tāku e hoatu ai ki āu tāngata, ki ngā kaitārai, ki ngā kaitapahi i ngā rākau, he wīti, he mea patu e rua tekau mano mēhua, he pārei e rua tekau mano mēhua, he wāina e rua tekau mano pāti, he hinu e rua tekau mano pāti."

11 Nā, ka whakautua e Hūrāma kīngi o Tāira, he mea tuhituhi, tukua ai e ia ki a Horomona:

"He aroha nō Ihowā ki tāna iwi i hōmai ai koe e ia hei kīngi mō rātou."

12 I mea anō a Hūrāma:

"Kia whakapaingia a Ihowā, te Atua o Īharaira, nāna nei i hanga te rangi me te whenua, nāna hoki i hōmai ki a Kīngi Rāwiri he tama ngārahu tika, e hua ana ōna whakaaro, tōna mōhio, hei hanga i te whare mō Ihowā, i te whare anō mō tōna kīngitanga.

13 "Nā, kua ungā atu nei e ahau tētahi tangata whakaaro, e hua ana tōna mōhio, nā tōku pāpā, nā Hūrāma, 14 he tama nā tētahi wahine o ngā tamāhine a Rāna, ko tōna pāpā he tangata nō Tāira, he mōhio ki te mahi kōura, hiriwa, parāhi, rino kōhatu, rākau, pāpura, purū, rīnena pai, whero; ki te whakairo hoki i ngā whakairo katoa, ki te whakatauira i ngā whakaaro katoa e hoatu ki a ia; hei hoa mō āu mea mōhio, mō ngā mea mōhio anō hoki a tōku ariki, a Rāwiri, a tōu pāpā.

15 "Nā, ko te wīti, ko te pārei, ko te hinu, ko te wāina, i kōrerotia mai nā e tōku ariki, māna e hōmai ki āna pononga; 16 ā, mā mātou e tapahi he rākau i Repanōna, kia rite ki āu e mea ai māu; ka whakatere atu ai ki a koe i te moana ki Hopa, ā, māu e taritari ki Hiruhārama."

17 Nā, ka taua e Horomona ngā tāngata iwi kē i te whenua o Īharaira i muri i te tauanga i taua ai e tōna pāpā e Rāwiri; ā, ka kitea kotahi rau e rima tekau mā toru mano e ono rau. 18 Ā, ka meinga ētahi o rātou, e whitu tekau mano, hei kaipīkau, e waru tekau mano anō hei tārai i runga i te maunga, e toru mano e ono rau hei kaitirotiro, hei whakamahi i te iwi.

1 Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom. 2 And Solomon counted out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand men that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them. 3 And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him a house to dwell therein, even so deal with me. 4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt-offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Jehovah our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel. 5 And the house which I build is great; for great is our God above all gods. 6 But who is able to build him a house, seeing heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him a house, save only to burn incense before him? 7 Now therefore send me a man skilful to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that knoweth how to grave all manner of gravings, to be with the skilful men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide. 8 Send me also cedar-trees, fir-trees, and algum-trees, out of Lebanon; for I know that thy servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants, 9 even to prepare me timber in abundance; for the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful. 10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because Jehovah loveth his people, he hath made thee king over them. 12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom. 13 And now I have sent a skilful man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s, 14 the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, also to grave any manner of graving, and to devise any device; that there may be a place appointed unto him with thy skilful men, and with the skilful men of my lord David thy father. 15 Now therefore the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants: 16 and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need; and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.

17 And Solomon numbered all the sojourners that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found a hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred. 18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people at work.
