Te Putanga me te Wiwini o te Whakaekenga
1 "Putere atu, e ngā tama a Pineamine,
i roto i Hiruhārama!
Whakatangihia te tētere ki Tekoa,
kōkiritia ake he ahi tohu ki Petehakereme.
He kino hoki te titiro mai nei i te raki,
he whakangaromanga nui.
2 Ka tapahia atu e ahau te wahine ātaahua,
te wahine whakatarapī, te tamāhine a Hiona.
3 Ka haere mai ngā hēpara, me ā rātou kāhui ki a ia;
ka whakatūria ō rātou tēneti ki tētahi taha ōna, ki tētahi taha;
ka kai rātou ki tōna wāhi, ki tōna wāhi.
4 "Kia rite ngā mea mō te whawhai ki a ia;
whakatika, kia whakaekea i te poutūmārōtanga.
Auē te mate mō tātou! Kua tāwharara hoki te rā,
kua whakawairua kau anō ngā ātārangi o te ahiahi.
5 Maranga, kia whakaekea e tātou te pō,
kia wāwāhia anō ōna whare kīngi."
6 Ko te kupu hoki tēnei a Ihowā o ngā mano:
"Tuaina he rākau,
haupūria ake he pukepuke hei whawhai ki Hiruhārama.
Ko te pā tēnei e whiua;
he tūkino kau tāna i roto i a ia.
He tūkino, he pāhua te rangona ana i roto i a ia;
kei tōku aroaro tonu te mamae me te patunga.
8 E ako, e Hiruhārama,
kei puta kē tōku ngākau ki a koe,
kei meinga koe e ahau kia ururuatia,
he whenua kāhore e nohoia."
9 Ko te kupu tēnei a Ihowā o ngā mano:
"Ka āta hamua mārietia ngā toenga o Īharaira,
ānō he wāina;
Nanā, he mea kokotikore tō rātou taringa,
tē whakarongo ai rātou.
Nanā, hei tāwainga mā rātou te kupu a Ihowā,
kāhore e arongia e rātou.
11 Nā, kī tonu ahau i te riri o Ihowā;
ki te whakaminenga anō o ngā taitamariki, hui katoa;
12 Ka riro kē ō rātou whare i ētahi atu,
ngā māra ngātahi anō ko ngā wāhine;
nō te mea ka totoro tōku ringa
ki ngā tāngata o te whenua,"
e ai tā Ihowā.
13 "Ko te mea iti ō rātou, ko te mea nui hoki
kei runga i te apo;
ko te poropiti, ko te tohunga,
rātou katoa kei te mahi teka.
14 Ko tā rātou rongoātanga hoki
i te mamae o tāku iwi he hanga noa iho;
e kī ana, ‘Ka mau te rongo, ka mau te rongo’;
i te mea kāhore nei he maunga rongo.
15 I whakamā rānei rātou i a rātou e mahi ana i ngā mea whakarihariha?
Hore rawa ō rātou whakamā,
kāhore hoki i mōhio ki te numinumi.
Mō reira ka hinga rātou i roto i te hunga e hinga ana;
i te wā e whiu ai ahau i a rātou,
ka whakatakā rātou,"
e ai tā Ihowā.
16 Ko te kupu tēnei a Ihowā:
"E tū ki ngā ara, tirohia atu,
uia ngā ara tawhito kei hea te ara pai,
ka haere i reira, ā, ka kite koutou
i te tānga manawa mō ō koutou wairua.
Heoi, e kī mai ana rātou, ‘E kore mātou e haere i reira.’
17 I whakatūria anō e ahau ētahi kaitūtei mō koutou, i mea ahau,
‘Whakarongo ki te tangi o te tētere.’
Heoi, e kī ana rātou, ‘E kore mātou e whakarongo.’
18 Mō reira, whakarongo, e ngā iwi,
kia mōhio anō koe, e te huihui,
ki ngā mea kei roto i a rātou.
19 Whakarongo, e te whenua;
tēnei ahau te kawe mai nei i te kino mō tēnei iwi,
i ngā hua o ō rātou whakaaro;
mō rātou kīhai i whakarongo ki āku kōrero;
E kore ā koutou tahunga tinana e arongia,
e kore anō ā koutou patunga tapu e reka ki ahau.
21 Mō reira ko te kupu tēnei a Ihowā:
Tēnei ahau te whakatakoto nei
i ngā tūtukitanga waewae ki mua i tēnei iwi,
e tūtuki ngātahi ai ngā mātua, ngā tamariki;
ka whakaarahia mai anō he iwi nui i ngā pito o te whenua.
23 Ka mau rātou ki te kōpere, ki te tao;
he nanakia rātou, e kore hoki e tohu tāngata.
Ko tō rātou reo, ānō kei te moana e haruru ana,
ā, eke ai rātou i runga i te hōiho;
rārangi rawa rātou, me te mea he tāngata e mea ana
24 Kua rongo mātou ki tōna rongo;
ngoikore iho ō mātou ringa.
Mau pū mātou i te pāwera, i te mamae,
me te mea he wahine e whānau ana.
25 Kei puta atu ki te māra,
kaua hoki e haere i te ara;
kia tīwerawera te tangi;
nō te mea kīhai i aha kua tae mai
te kaipāhua ki a tātou.
27 "Kua oti koe te mea e ahau hei pourewa,
hei pā kaha, i roto i tōku iwi;
kia mōhio ai koe,
kia whakamātau ai i tō rātou ara.
28 He tino nui tō rātou tutū,
ā, ko tā rātou i a rātou e hāereere ana he ngau tuarā.
He parāhi rātou, he rino;
he hunga whakangau kē rātou katoa.
29 Kei te kakā te hau o te pupuhi ahi;
kua pau te matā i te ahi,
maumau whakarewa noa te kaitahi para;
kāhore nei hoki te hunga kino kia unuhia atu.
30 E huaina rātou e te tangata he hiriwa i paopaongia,
1 Flee for safety, ye children of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise up a signal on Beth-haccherem; for evil looketh forth from the north, and a great destruction. 2 The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off. 3 Shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place. 4 Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day declineth, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out. 5 Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces. 6 For thus hath Jehovah of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her. 7 As a well casteth forth its waters, so she casteth forth her wickedness: violence and destruction is heard in her; before me continually is sickness and wounds. 8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.
9 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn again thy hand as a grape-gatherer into the baskets. 10 To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Jehovah is become unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it. 11 Therefore I am full of the wrath of Jehovah; I am weary with holding in: pour it out upon the children in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days. 12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, their fields and their wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith Jehovah. 13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. 14 They have healed also the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. 15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall; at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith Jehovah.
16 Thus saith Jehovah, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk therein. 17 And I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not hearken. 18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them. 19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it. 20 To what purpose cometh there to me frankincense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing unto me. 21 Therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will lay stumbling-blocks before this people; and the fathers and the sons together shall stumble against them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish.
22 Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, a people cometh from the north country; and a great nation shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth. 23 They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea, and they ride upon horses, every one set in array, as a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Zion. 24 We have heard the report thereof; our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pangs as of a woman in travail. 25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy, and terror, are on every side. 26 O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.
27 I have made thee a trier and a fortress among my people; that thou mayest know and try their way. 28 They are all grievous revolters, going about with slanders; they are brass and iron: they all of them deal corruptly. 29 The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away. 30 Refuse silver shall men call them, because Jehovah hath rejected them.
