Jeremias 8

ASV

1 " I taua , e ai Ihowā, ka whakaputaina mai ki waho ngā wheua o ngā kīngi o Hūrā, me ngā wheua o ōna rangatira, me ngā wheua o ngā tohunga, ngā wheua o ngā poropiti, me ngā wheua o ngā tāngata o Hiruhārama i roto i ō rātou tanumanga.

5 He aha tēnei iwi o Hiruhārama i tahuri ai,

ā, mau tonu iho te tahuri ?

E hopukia atu ana e rātou te tinihanga,

kāhore e pai ki te hoki mai.

6 I whakarongo ahau, i rongo anō,

kīhai i tika ā rātou kōrero.

Kīhai tētahi i rīpenetā ki tōna kino,

kīhai i mea, "He aha tāku i mea ai?"

mahara tonu rātou ki te e haere mai ai rātou;

ko tāku iwi ia, kāhore e mōhio

ki Ihowā i whakarite ai.

8 " He pēhea koutou e , "He hunga whakaaro nui tātou,

kei a tātou te Ture a Ihowā"?

Nanā, he horihori te mahi

ā, he pēhea te whakaaro nui i roto i a rātou?

10 reira ka hoatu e ahau ā rātou wāhine te tāngata ,

ā rātou māra ki ngā tāngata mōna te wāhi;

ko rātou katoa, i te iti ki te rahi,

kei te apo mea rātou;

ko te poropiti, ko te tohunga,

ko rātou katoa, kei te mahi teka.

11 Kua rongoātia e rātou te pakaru o te tamāhine a tāku iwi,

he mea panga noa iho,

e mea ana, "Ka mau te rongo, ka mau te rongo,"

i te mea kāhore he maunga rongo.

12 I whakamā rānei rātou i rātou mahinga i te mea whakarihariha?

Hore rawa ō rātou whakamā;

reira ka hinga rātou i roto i te hunga e hinga ana;

i te e whiua ai rātou, ka tūtuki ō rātou waewae,

e ai Ihowā.

13 " Ka mōtī rawa rātou i ahau, e ai Ihowā,

kāhore he karepe te wāina,

kāhore he piki te piki;

ka memenge anō te rau;

ā, ko ngā mea i hoatu e ahau ki a rātou, ka pahemo atu.

14 "He aha tātou i noho tonu ai?

Huihui! Kia haere tātou ki ngā kaha,

ki reira whakamoroki kau ai;

kua kore hoki i a Ihowā, i tātou Atua he kupu tātou,

whakainumia ana tātou e ia ki te wai kawa;

15 Tatari noa ki te rongo mau; heoi kāhore he pai;

ki te e ora ai ngā mate, , ko te raruraru.

16 I rangona ki Rāna te whengu o ōna hōiho;

ngateri ana te whenua katoa

i te reo o āna mea kaha e hāmama ana.

Kua haere mai hoki rātou, pau ake i a rātou

te whenua me ōna mea maha,

te me ngā tāngata o roto.

17 "Nanā, ka ngarea atu e ahau he nākahi, he neke,

e kore nei e whakawaia, ki a koutou;

ā, ka ngau rātou i a koutou,"

e ai Ihowā.

Ka Tangi te Poropiti te Iwi

18 Auē, taea te whakamārie te pōuri i ahau,

e ngohe nei te ngākau i roto i ahau.

19 Nanā, he reo tangi te tamāhine a tāku iwi,

i ahu mai i te whenua tawhiti:

"He teka ianei kei roto a Ihowā i Hiona?

He teka ianei kei roto tōna kīngi i a ia?

"He aha rātou i whakapātaritari ai i ahau ki ā rātou whakapakoko,

ki ngā horihori rerekē?

20 "Kua pahemo te kotinga,

kua taka te raumati;

ko tātou, kāhore he whakaoranga tātou."

21 He mamae ki te tamāhine a tāku iwi i mamae ai ahau,

mangu iho ahau, mau ahau i te mīharo.

22 Kāhore ianei he hinu whakaora i Kireara?

Kāhore ianei ō reira rata?

He aha hoki mai ai te ora

ki te tamāhine a tāku iwi?

1 At that time, saith Jehovah, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves; 2 and they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried, they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth. 3 And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith Jehovah of hosts.

4 Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: Shall men fall, and not rise up again? Shall one turn away, and not return? 5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return. 6 I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repenteth him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turneth to his course, as a horse that rusheth headlong in the battle. 7 Yea, the stork in the heavens knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle-dove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the law of Jehovah.

8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of Jehovah is with us? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes hath wrought falsely. 9 The wise men are put to shame, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of Jehovah; and what manner of wisdom is in them? 10 Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. 11 And they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. 12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall; in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith Jehovah. 13 I will utterly consume them, saith Jehovah: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig-tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there; for Jehovah our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah. 15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and, behold, dismay! 16 The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan: at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones the whole land trembleth; for they are come, and have devoured the land and all that is in it; the city and those that dwell therein. 17 For, behold, I will send serpents, adders, among you, which will not be charmed; and they shall bite you, saith Jehovah.

18 Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! my heart is faint within me. 19 Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: is not Jehovah in Zion? is not her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with foreign vanities? 20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. 21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt: I mourn; dismay hath taken hold on me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
