1 Saul falou a seu filho Jônatas e a todos os servos sobre matar Davi. Mas Jônatas, filho de Saul, era muito afeiçoado a Davi. 2 Por isso, Jônatas revelou esse plano a Davi, dizendo:

— Meu pai, Saul, quer matar você. Tenha cuidado amanhã cedo. Fique num lugar oculto e esconda-se. 3 Eu sairei e estarei ao lado de meu pai no campo onde você estiver. Falarei com meu pai a respeito de você. Se eu descobrir alguma coisa, contarei a você.

4 Então Jônatas falou bem de Davi a Saul, seu pai, e lhe disse:

— Que o rei não peque contra o seu servo Davi, porque ele não pecou contra você. Pelo contrário, o que ele tem feito é muito bom para você. 5 Arriscando a sua vida, ele matou o filisteu e o Senhor efetuou grande livramento a todo o Israel. Você mesmo viu isso e ficou contente. Por que, então, você pecaria contra sangue inocente, matando Davi sem motivo?

6 Saul atendeu à voz de Jônatas e jurou:

— Tão certo como vive o Senhor, ele não morrerá.

7 Jônatas chamou Davi, contou-lhe todas estas palavras e o levou a Saul. E Davi esteve diante de Saul como antes.

8 E tornou a haver guerra. Davi lutou contra os filisteus e os feriu com grande derrota, e eles fugiram dele.

9 E o espírito mau, enviado da parte do Senhor, veio sobre Saul. Ele estava sentado em sua casa, com a sua lança na mão, enquanto Davi dedilhava a harpa. 10 Saul tentou encravar Davi na parede, porém ele se desviou e a lança foi se encravar na parede. Então Davi fugiu e escapou.

11 Porém, naquela mesma noite, Saul mandou mensageiros à casa de Davi, que o vigiassem, para ele o matar pela manhã. Porém Mical, a mulher de Davi, o avisou:

— Se não fugir esta noite, amanhã você estará morto.

12 Então Mical desceu Davi por uma janela, e ele se foi, fugiu e escapou. 13 Mical pegou um ídolo do lar e o deitou na cama. Pôs um tecido de pelos de cabra sobre a cabeça do ídolo, e o cobriu com um manto. 14 Quando Saul enviou mensageiros para prender Davi, Mical disse:

— Ele está doente.

15 Então Saul mandou mensageiros que fossem ver Davi, dizendo:

— Tragam Davi mesmo que esteja na cama, para que eu o mate.

16 Quando os mensageiros entraram, eis que na cama estava apenas o ídolo do lar com o tecido de pelos de cabra ao redor da cabeça. 17 Então Saul disse a Mical:

— Por que você me enganou assim e deixou o meu inimigo escapar?

Mical respondeu:

— Porque ele me disse: "Deixe-me ir; se não, eu mato você."

18 Assim, Davi fugiu e escapou, e foi até onde Samuel estava, em Ramá, e lhe contou tudo o que Saul lhe havia feito. Então se retiraram, ele e Samuel, e ficaram na casa dos profetas. 19 Saul ficou sabendo que Davi estava na casa dos profetas, em Ramá. 20 Então Saul enviou mensageiros para trazerem Davi. Quando viram um grupo de profetas profetizando, liderados por Samuel, o Espírito de Deus veio sobre os mensageiros de Saul, e também eles profetizaram. 21 Quando soube disso, Saul enviou outros mensageiros, e também estes profetizaram. Então Saul enviou um terceiro grupo de mensageiros, os quais também profetizaram. 22 Então o próprio Saul foi a Ramá. Quando chegou ao poço grande na cidade de Seco, perguntou:

— Onde estão Samuel e Davi?

Responderam:

— Eis que estão na casa dos profetas, em Ramá.

23 Então Saul foi para a casa dos profetas, em Ramá. E o mesmo Espírito de Deus veio sobre ele, que, caminhando, profetizava até chegar à casa dos profetas, em Ramá. 24 Também ele despiu a sua túnica e profetizou diante de Samuel. E, sem a túnica, ficou deitado no chão todo aquele dia e toda aquela noite. Por isso se diz: "Está também Saul entre os profetas?"

1 And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted much in David.2 And Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeks to kill thee. Now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself in the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself.3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou are, and I will converse with my father of thee, and if I see anything, I will tell thee.4 And Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against thee, and because his works have been very good toward thee.5 For he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and LORD wrought a great victory for all Israel. Thou saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will thou sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?6 And Saul hearkened to the voice of Jonathan. And Saul swore, As LORD lives, he shall not be put to death.7 And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as beforetime.8 And there was war again. And David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and killed them with a great slaughter, and they fled before him.9 And an evil spirit from LORD was upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand, and David was playing with his hand.10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the spear into the wall. And David fled, and escaped that night.11 And Saul sent messengers to David's house, to watch him, and to kill him in the morning. And Michal, David's wife, told him, saying, If thou save not thy life tonight, tomorrow thou will be slain.12 So Michal let David down through the window, and he went, and fled, and escaped.13 And Michal took the teraphim, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' [hair] at the head of it, and covered it with the clothes.14 And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.15 And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.16 And when the messengers came in, behold, the teraphim was in the bed, with the pillow of goats' [hair] at the head of it.17 And Saul said to Michal, Why have thou deceived me thus, and let my enemy go, so that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said to me, Let me go. Why should I kill thee?18 Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.19 And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.20 And Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.21 And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.22 Then he also went to Ramah, and came to the great well that is in Secu. And he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.23 And he went there to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah.24 And he also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
