Oseias 10

Israel semeou maldade e colherá destruição

1 "Israel era uma videira

de ramagem viçosa,

que dava o seu fruto.

Quanto mais abundantes os frutos,

maior o número de altares;

quanto mais a terra produzia,

tanto mais embelezavam

as colunas sagradas.

2 O coração deles está dividido

e agora terão de pagar por isso.

O Senhor quebrará os altares deles

e destruirá as colunas sagradas."

3 "Agora eles vão dizer:

‘Não temos rei,

porque não tememos o Senhor.

E o rei, que poderia fazer por nós?’

4 Falam palavras vãs,

juram falsamente e fazem alianças;

por isso, o juízo brota

como erva venenosa

nos sulcos dos campos.

5 Os moradores de Samaria

ficarão com medo

por causa do bezerro

de Bete-Áven;

o seu povo se lamentará

por causa dele,

e os sacerdotes idólatras tremerão

por causa da sua glória,

que já se foi.

6 Também o bezerro

será levado à Assíria

como presente para o grande rei.

Efraim se cobrirá de vexame,

e Israel ficará com vergonha

do seu ídolo de madeira."

7 "O rei de Samaria será

como lasca de madeira

na superfície da água.

8 Os lugares altos de Áven,

que são o pecado de Israel,

serão destruídos;

espinhos e ervas daninhas

crescerão sobre os seus altares.

E o povo dirá aos montes:

‘Cubram-nos!’

E às colinas:

‘Caiam em cima de nós!’"

Deus dá a sentença contra Israel

9 "Desde os dias de Gibeá,

você pecou, ó Israel,

e nesse pecado você permaneceu.

Será que a batalha

contra os filhos da perversidade

não há de alcançá-los em Gibeá?

10 Eu os castigarei

na medida do meu desejo.

Os povos se ajuntarão contra eles,

quando eu os punir por causa

de sua dupla transgressão.

11 Porque Efraim

era uma bezerra domada,

que gostava de pisar

o trigo na eira.

Coloquei o jugo

sobre o seu belo pescoço;

atrelei Efraim ao carro.

Judá lavrará,

Jacó lhe desfará os torrões.

12 Então eu disse:

‘Semeiem a justiça

e colham a misericórdia.

Lavrem o campo não cultivado,

porque é tempo

de buscar o Senhor,

até que ele venha,

e chova a justiça sobre vocês.’"

13 "Vocês lavraram para a maldade,

colheram a injustiça

e comeram os frutos da mentira.

Vocês confiaram

nos seus carros de guerra

e na multidão dos seus valentes,

14 e por isso entre o seu povo

se levantará o tumulto de guerra,

e todas as suas fortalezas

serão destruídas,

como Salmã destruiu Bete-Arbel

no dia da batalha.

As mães foram despedaçadas

com os seus filhos.

15 Assim se fará com você, ó Betel,

por causa da sua grande maldade.

Ao amanhecer, o rei de Israel

será totalmente destruído."

1 Israel was a spreading vine;

he brought forth fruit for himself.

As his fruit increased,

he built more altars;

as his land prospered,

he adorned his sacred stones.

2 Their heart is deceitful,

and now they must bear their guilt.

The Lord will demolish their altars

and destroy their sacred stones.

3 Then they will say, "We have no king

because we did not revere the Lord.

But even if we had a king,

what could he do for us?"

4 They make many promises,

take false oaths

and make agreements;

therefore lawsuits spring up

like poisonous weeds in a plowed field.

5 The people who live in Samaria fear

for the calf-idol of Beth Aven.*10:5 Beth Aven means house of wickedness (a derogatory name for Bethel, which means house of God).

Its people will mourn over it,

and so will its idolatrous priests,

those who had rejoiced over its splendor,

because it is taken from them into exile.

6 It will be carried to Assyria

as tribute for the great king.

Ephraim will be disgraced;

Israel will be ashamed of its foreign alliances.

7 Samaria’s king will be destroyed,

swept away like a twig on the surface of the waters.

8 The high places of wickedness*10:8 Hebrew aven, a reference to Beth Aven (a derogatory name for Bethel); see verse 5. will be destroyed—

it is the sin of Israel.

Thorns and thistles will grow up

and cover their altars.

Then they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!"

and to the hills, "Fall on us!"

9 "Since the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, Israel,

and there you have remained.*10:9 Or there a stand was taken

Will not war again overtake

the evildoers in Gibeah?

10 When I please, I will punish them;

nations will be gathered against them

to put them in bonds for their double sin.

11 Ephraim is a trained heifer

that loves to thresh;

so I will put a yoke

on her fair neck.

I will drive Ephraim,

Judah must plow,

and Jacob must break up the ground.

12 Sow righteousness for yourselves,

reap the fruit of unfailing love,

and break up your unplowed ground;

for it is time to seek the Lord,

until he comes

and showers his righteousness on you.

13 But you have planted wickedness,

you have reaped evil,

you have eaten the fruit of deception.

Because you have depended on your own strength

and on your many warriors,

14 the roar of battle will rise against your people,

so that all your fortresses will be devastated—

as Shalman devastated Beth Arbel on the day of battle,

when mothers were dashed to the ground with their children.

15 So will it happen to you, Bethel,

because your wickedness is great.

When that day dawns,

the king of Israel will be completely destroyed.
