1 Quando Jeremias ainda estava encarcerado no pátio da guarda, a palavra do Senhor veio a ele pela segunda vez, dizendo:

2 — Assim diz o Senhor que faz estas coisas, o Senhor que as forma para as estabelecer — Senhor é o seu nome: 3 Chame por mim e eu responderei; eu lhe anunciarei coisas grandes e ocultas, que você não conhece. 4 Porque assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, a respeito das casas desta cidade e das casas dos reis de Judá, que foram derrubadas para defender a cidade contra as rampas de ataque e a espada: 5 Quando se der a batalha contra os caldeus, eu as encherei de cadáveres daqueles que serão feridos por minha ira e meu furor. Porque desta cidade escondi o meu rosto, por causa de toda a sua maldade.

6 — Eis que lhe trarei saúde e cura e os sararei; e lhes revelarei abundância de paz e segurança. 7 Restaurarei a sorte de Judá e de Israel e os edificarei como no princípio. 8 Eu os purificarei de toda a sua iniquidade com que pecaram contra mim e perdoarei todas as suas iniquidades com que pecaram e se revoltaram contra mim. 9 Jerusalém será para mim um motivo de fama, louvor e glória, entre todas as nações da terra que ouvirem todo o bem que eu lhe faço. Temerão e tremerão por causa de todo o bem e por causa de toda a paz que eu lhe dou.

10 Assim diz o Senhor:

— Neste lugar, que vocês dizem que está deserto, sem pessoas e sem animais, nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém, que estão arrasadas, sem pessoas, sem moradores e sem animais, ainda se ouvirá 11 o som das festas e da alegria, a voz do noivo e a voz da noiva, e a voz dos que cantam:

"Deem graças

ao Senhor dos Exércitos,

porque ele é bom,

porque a sua misericórdia

dura para sempre."

— Também se ouvirá a voz dos que trazem ofertas de ações de graças à Casa do Senhor; porque restaurarei a sorte da terra como no princípio, diz o Senhor.

12 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos:

— Ainda neste lugar, que está deserto, sem pessoas e sem animais, e em todas as suas cidades, haverá moradas onde pastores farão repousar os seus rebanhos. 13 Nas cidades da região montanhosa, nas cidades da Sefelá, nas cidades do Sul, na terra de Benjamim, nos arredores de Jerusalém e nas cidades de Judá, ainda passarão os rebanhos pelas mãos de quem os conte, diz o Senhor.

14 — Eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que cumprirei a promessa que fiz à casa de Israel e à casa de Judá. 15 Naqueles dias e naquele tempo, farei brotar a Davi um Renovo de justiça, e ele executará o juízo e a justiça na terra. 16 Naqueles dias, Judá será salvo e Jerusalém habitará em segurança; ela será chamada "Senhor, Justiça Nossa".

17 — Porque assim diz o Senhor: Nunca faltará a Davi homem que se assente no trono da casa de Israel, 18 nem aos sacerdotes levitas faltará homem diante de mim, para que ofereça holocausto, queime oferta de cereais e faça sacrifício todos os dias.

19 A palavra do Senhor veio a Jeremias, dizendo:

20 — Assim diz o Senhor: Se vocês puderem invalidar a minha aliança com o dia e a minha aliança com a noite, de tal modo que não haja nem dia nem noite a seu tempo, 21 então também poderá ser invalidada a minha aliança com Davi, meu servo, para que ele não tenha filho que reine no seu trono. Também poderá ser invalidada a minha aliança com os sacerdotes levitas, meus ministros. 22 Como não se pode contar o exército dos céus nem medir a areia do mar, assim tornarei incontável a descendência de Davi, meu servo, e os levitas que ministram diante de mim.

23 A palavra do Senhor veio a Jeremias, dizendo:

24 — Você notou o que esse povo está dizendo? Estão dizendo: "As duas famílias que o Senhor escolheu, essas ele rejeitou." Assim desprezam o meu povo, ao ponto de não considerá-lo mais uma nação.

25 Assim diz o Senhor:

— Se a minha aliança com o dia e com a noite não permanecer, e se eu não mantiver as leis fixas dos céus e da terra, 26 então também rejeitarei a descendência de Jacó e de Davi, meu servo, de modo que não tome da sua descendência quem domine sobre a descendência de Abraão, Isaque e Jacó. Porque restaurarei a sua sorte e deles me compadecerei.

1 The word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was still confined in the court of the guard:2 »Jehovah is the maker of the earth. Jehovah is the one who formed and established it. Jehovah is His name.3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I will tell you grand and impressive things, things you do not know.’«4 »The houses in this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah have been torn down. They are used against the dirt ramps and weapons of the Babylonians. This is what Jehovah the God of Israel says about this:5 »The people of Israel fought the Babylonians. Now their houses are filled with the bodies of their own people I killed in my anger and my fury. I will hide my face from this city because of its wickedness.6 »However I will heal this city and restore it to health. I will heal its people, and I will give them peace and security.7 »I will restore Judah and Israel and rebuild them as they were before.8 »I will cleanse them from all the sins that they have committed against me. I will forgive them for all the sins that they have committed against me and for rebelling against me.9 »Jerusalem will be my source of joy, praise, and honor. All the nations on earth will hear about all the blessings that I will give to Jerusalem. They will be afraid and tremble because of all the prosperity that I will provide for it.’«10 »This is what Jehovah says: ‘You have said that this place is ruined and that no people or animals live in it. It is true! The cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem are deserted. No people or animals live there. But once again you will hear,11 »Yes, you will hear the sounds of joy and happiness and the sounds of brides and grooms. You will hear those who bring thank offerings to Jehovah’s Temple.« ’ »‘They will say: Give thanks to Jehovah of Hosts because Jehovah is good, because his mercy endures forever. I will restore the prosperity of the land to what they were before,« ’ says Jehovah.12 »Jehovah of Hosts said: ‘In this land that is like a desert and where no people or animals live, there will once again be pastures where shepherds can take their sheep.’13 »‘In mountain towns, in the foothills, and in southern Judah, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem, and in the towns of Judah, shepherds will once again count their sheep.’ I Jehovah have spoken.«14 »‘Jehovah said: ‘The time is coming when I will fulfill the promise that I made to the people of Israel and Judah.15 »At that time I will choose as king a righteous descendant of David. That king will do what is right and just throughout the land.16 »The people of Judah and of Jerusalem will be rescued and will live in safety. The city will be called Jehovah is Our Righteousness.’«17 »I Jehovah promise that there will always be a descendant of David to be king of Israel18 and that there will always be priests from the tribe of Levi to serve me and to offer burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sacrifices.’«19 Jehovah continued to speak to me:20 »If you break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night, so that day and night will not be at their appointed time,21 then my covenant may also be broken with David my servant so that he will not have a son to reign on his throne, with the Levitical priests as my ministers.22 »‘I will increase the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who serve me in the same way as the stars of heaven that cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore that cannot be measured.’«23 The word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah:24 »Have you not observed what this people have said. They say, ‘The two families Jehovah chose, he has rejected?’ Thus they despise my people, no longer are they as a nation in their sight.25 »Jehovah says: ‘If My covenant for day and night do not stand and I have not established the fixed patterns of heaven and earth,26 then I would reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant. And I would not take from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But I will restore their prosperity and will show them love and compassion.’«
