1 Davi fez também casas para si mesmo, na Cidade de Davi, e preparou um lugar para a arca de Deus e lhe armou uma tenda. 2 Então ele disse:

— Ninguém pode levar a arca de Deus, a não ser os levitas, porque o Senhor os escolheu para levarem a arca do Senhor e o servirem para sempre.

3 Davi reuniu todo o Israel em Jerusalém, para trazer a arca do Senhor para o lugar que ele havia preparado para ela. 4 Davi reuniu os filhos de Arão e os levitas. 5 Dos filhos de Coate veio Uriel, o chefe, e seus irmãos, cento e vinte; 6 dos filhos de Merari veio Asaías, o chefe, e seus irmãos, duzentos e vinte; 7 dos filhos de Gérson veio Joel, o chefe, e seus irmãos, cento e trinta; 8 dos filhos de Elisafã veio Semaías, o chefe, e seus irmãos, duzentos; 9 dos filhos de Hebrom veio Eliel, o chefe, e seus irmãos, oitenta; 10 dos filhos de Uziel veio Aminadabe, o chefe, e seus irmãos, cento e doze.

11 Davi chamou os sacerdotes Zadoque e Abiatar e os levitas Uriel, Asaías, Joel, Semaías, Eliel e Aminadabe 12 e lhes disse:

— Vocês são os chefes das famílias dos levitas. Santifiquem a si mesmos e aos seus irmãos, para que possam trazer a arca do Senhor, Deus de Israel, ao lugar que preparei para ela. 13 Pois, visto que vocês não a carregaram na primeira vez, o Senhor, nosso Deus, irrompeu contra nós, porque não o buscamos, segundo nos tinha sido ordenado.

14 Então os sacerdotes e os levitas se santificaram, para trazer a arca do Senhor, Deus de Israel. 15 Os filhos dos levitas trouxeram a arca de Deus sobre os ombros pelos cabos, como Moisés havia ordenado, segundo a palavra do Senhor.

16 Davi ordenou aos chefes dos levitas que constituíssem os seus irmãos, os cantores, para que, acompanhados por instrumentos musicais, liras, harpas e címbalos, se fizessem ouvir, levantando a voz com alegria. 17 Assim, os levitas designaram Hemã, filho de Joel; e dos irmãos dele, Asafe, filho de Berequias; e dos filhos de Merari, irmãos deles, Etã, filho de Cusaías. 18 E com eles os seus irmãos da segunda ordem: Zacarias, Bene, Jaaziel, Semiramote, Jeiel, Uni, Eliabe, Benaia, Maaseias, Matitias, Elifeleu e Micneias e os porteiros Obede-Edom e Jeiel. 19 Assim, os cantores Hemã, Asafe e Etã se faziam ouvir com címbalos de bronze; 20 Zacarias, Aziel, Semiramote, Jeiel, Uni, Eliabe, Maaseias e Benaia, com liras, em voz de soprano; 21 Matitias, Elifeleu, Micneias, Obede-Edom, Jeiel e Azazias, com harpas, em voz de baixo, para conduzir o canto. 22 Quenanias, chefe dos levitas músicos, tinha o encargo de dirigir o canto, porque era perito nisso. 23 Berequias e Elcana eram porteiros da arca. 24 Sebanias, Josafá, Natanael, Amasai, Zacarias, Benaia e Eliézer, os sacerdotes, tocavam as trombetas diante da arca de Deus; Obede-Edom e Jeías eram porteiros da arca.

25 Davi, os anciãos de Israel e os capitães de milhares foram, com alegria, buscar a arca da aliança do Senhor na casa de Obede-Edom. 26 E visto que Deus ajudou os levitas que levavam a arca da aliança do Senhor, ofereceram em sacrifício sete novilhos e sete carneiros. 27 Davi estava vestido com um manto de linho fino, bem como todos os levitas que levavam a arca, os cantores e Quenanias, chefe dos que levavam a arca e dos cantores; Davi vestia também uma estola sacerdotal de linho. 28 Assim, todo o Israel levou a arca da aliança do Senhor, com júbilo e ao som de clarins, trombetas e címbalos, fazendo ressoar harpas e liras.

29 Quando a arca da aliança do Senhor estava entrando na Cidade de Davi, Mical, filha de Saul, olhou pela janela. E, ao ver o rei Davi dançando e se alegrando, ela o desprezou em seu coração.

1 David made himself houses in David’s city; and he prepared a place for God’s ark, and pitched a tent for it. 2 Then David said, "No one ought to carry God’s ark but the Levites. For Yahweh has chosen them to carry God’s ark, and to minister to him forever."

3 David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up Yahweh’s ark to its place, which he had prepared for it. 4 David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites: 5 of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and his brothers one hundred twenty; 6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred twenty; 7 of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and his brothers one hundred thirty; 8 of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred; 9 of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and his brothers eighty; 10 of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and his brothers one hundred twelve.

11 David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab, 12 and said to them, "You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel, up to the place that I have prepared for it. 13 For because you didn’t carry it at first, Yahweh our God broke out in anger against us, because we didn’t seek him according to the ordinance."

14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel. 15 The children of the Levites bore God’s ark on their shoulders with its poles, as Moses commanded according to Yahweh’s word.

16 David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers with instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up their voices with joy. 17 So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brothers, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah; 18 and with them their brothers of the second rank: Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers. 19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were given cymbals of bronze to sound aloud; 20 and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with stringed instruments set to Alamoth; 21 and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps tuned to the eight-stringed lyre, to lead. 22 Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the singing. He taught the singers, because he was skillful. 23 Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark. 24 Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before God’s ark; and Obed-Edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

25 So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up out of the house of Obed-Edom with joy. 26 When God helped the Levites who bore the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. 27 David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the choir master with the singers; and David had an ephod of linen on him. 28 Thus all Israel brought the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up with shouting, with sound of the cornet, with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with stringed instruments and harps. 29 As the ark of Yahweh’s covenant came to David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.
