1 O rei Davi disse a toda a congregação:

— Salomão, meu filho, o único a quem Deus escolheu, ainda é moço e inexperiente, e esta obra é grande, porque o palácio não é para homens, mas para o Senhor Deus. 2 Portanto, com todas as minhas forças já preparei para o templo de meu Deus ouro para as obras de ouro, prata para as de prata, bronze para as de bronze, ferro para as de ferro e madeira para as de madeira; pedras de ônix, pedras de engaste, pedras de várias cores, de mosaicos e todo tipo de pedras preciosas, e mármore, e tudo em abundância. 3 E ainda, porque amo o templo de meu Deus, o ouro e a prata particulares que tenho dou para o templo de meu Deus, além de tudo o que preparei para o santuário: 4 cem toneladas de ouro, do ouro de Ofir, e duzentas e quarenta toneladas de prata purificada, para cobrir as paredes das casas; 5 ouro para os objetos de ouro e prata para os de prata, e para toda obra de mão dos artífices. Quem, pois, está disposto hoje a ofertar com generosidade para o Senhor?

6 Então os chefes das famílias, os chefes das tribos de Israel, os capitães de mil e os de cem e até os administradores da obra do rei fizeram ofertas voluntárias 7 e deram para o serviço da Casa de Deus cento e setenta toneladas de ouro, dez mil barras de ouro, trezentas e quarenta toneladas de prata, seiscentas e doze toneladas de bronze e três mil e quatrocentas toneladas de ferro. 8 Os que possuíam pedras preciosas as trouxeram para o tesouro da Casa do Senhor, a cargo de Jeiel, o gersonita. 9 O povo se alegrou com tudo o que se fez voluntariamente, porque de coração íntegro fizeram ofertas voluntárias ao Senhor. Também o rei Davi se alegrou com grande júbilo.

10 Davi louvou o Senhor diante de toda a congregação e disse:

— Bendito és tu, Senhor, Deus de Israel, nosso pai, de eternidade a eternidade. 11 Teu, Senhor, é o poder, a grandeza, a honra, a vitória e a majestade, porque teu é tudo o que há nos céus e na terra. Teu, Senhor, é o reino, e tu te exaltaste como chefe sobre todos. 12 Riquezas e glória vêm de ti. Tu dominas sobre tudo, e na tua mão há força e poder. Contigo está o engrandecer e dar força a todos. 13 Agora, ó nosso Deus, graças te damos e louvamos o teu glorioso nome. 14 Porque quem sou eu, e quem é o meu povo para que pudéssemos dar voluntariamente estas coisas? Porque tudo vem de ti, e nós só damos o que vem das tuas mãos. 15 Porque somos estrangeiros diante de ti e peregrinos como todos os nossos pais. Os nossos dias sobre a terra são como a sombra, e não temos permanência. 16 Senhor, nosso Deus, toda esta abundância que preparamos para edificar um templo ao teu santo nome vem da tua mão e é toda tua. 17 Bem sei, meu Deus, que tu provas os corações e que te agradas da sinceridade. Eu também, na sinceridade de meu coração, dei voluntariamente todas estas coisas, e acabo de ver com alegria que o teu povo aqui reunido te faz ofertas voluntariamente. 18 Senhor, Deus de nossos pais Abraão, Isaque e Israel, conserva para sempre no coração do teu povo estas disposições e pensamentos; firma o coração deles em ti. 19 E ao meu filho Salomão dá coração íntegro para guardar os teus mandamentos, os teus testemunhos e os teus estatutos, fazendo tudo para edificar este palácio para o qual fiz todos estes preparativos.

20 Então Davi disse a toda a congregação:

— Agora, louvem o Senhor, seu Deus.

Então toda a congregação louvou o Senhor, Deus de seus pais. Todos inclinaram a cabeça, adoraram o Senhor e se prostraram diante do rei.

21 No dia seguinte, trouxeram sacrifícios ao Senhor e lhe ofereceram holocaustos de mil bezerros, mil carneiros, mil cordeiros, com as suas libações; sacrifícios em abundância por todo o Israel. 22 Comeram e beberam, naquele dia, diante do Senhor, com grande alegria.

Pela segunda vez, fizeram rei a Salomão, filho de Davi, e o ungiram ao Senhor por príncipe e a Zadoque, por sacerdote. 23 Salomão assentou-se no trono do Senhor como rei em lugar de Davi, seu pai. Ele prosperou, e todo o Israel lhe obedecia. 24 Todos os oficiais, os soldados, e até todos os filhos do rei Davi prestaram homenagens ao rei Salomão. 25 O Senhor engrandeceu muito Salomão diante de todo o Israel e lhe deu majestade real, qual antes dele não teve nenhum rei em Israel.

26 Assim, Davi, filho de Jessé, reinou sobre todo o Israel. 27 Ele reinou sobre Israel durante quarenta anos: sete anos em Hebrom e trinta e três em Jerusalém. 28 Morreu em boa velhice, cheio de dias, riquezas e glória; e Salomão, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar. 29 Os atos do rei Davi, tanto os primeiros como os últimos, estão escritos nas crônicas de Samuel, o vidente, nas crônicas de Natã, o profeta, e nas crônicas de Gade, o vidente. 30 Ali também está registrado o que se passou no seu reinado e se fala a respeito do seu poder e de todos os acontecimentos que se deram com ele, com Israel e com todos os reinos daquelas terras.

1 David the king said to all the assembly, "Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God. 2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, the bronze for the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, also onyx stones, stones to be set, stones for inlaid work of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance. 3 In addition, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, since I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house: 4 even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses; 5 of gold for the things of gold, and of silver for the things of silver, and for all kinds of work to be made by the hands of artisans. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself today to Yahweh?"

6 Then the princes of the fathers’ households, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king’s work, offered willingly; 7 and they gave for the service of God’s house of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, of silver ten thousand talents, of bronze eighteen thousand talents, and of iron one hundred thousand talents. 8 People with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of Yahweh’s house, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 Then the people rejoiced, because they offered willingly, because with a perfect heart they offered willingly to Yahweh; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10 Therefore David blessed Yahweh before all the assembly; and David said, "You are blessed, Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all! In your hand is power and might! It is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all! 13 Now therefore, our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and we have given you of your own. 15 For we are strangers before you and foreigners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no remaining. 16 Yahweh our God, all this store that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and is all your own. 17 I know also, my God, that you try the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. Now I have seen with joy your people, who are present here, offer willingly to you. 18 Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the heart of your people, and prepare their heart for you; 19 and give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision."

20 Then David said to all the assembly, "Now bless Yahweh your God!"

All the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads and prostrated themselves before Yahweh and the king. 21 They sacrificed sacrifices to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings to Yahweh on the next day after that day, even one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, and one thousand lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel, 22 and ate and drank before Yahweh on that day with great gladness. They made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him before Yahweh to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.

23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the princes, the mighty men, and also all of the sons of king David submitted themselves to Solomon the king. 25 Yahweh magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and gave to him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 28 He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place. 29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer, 30 with all his reign and his might, and the events that involved him, Israel, and all the kingdoms of the lands.
