1 Quando já era bem velho, Davi constituiu o seu filho Salomão rei sobre Israel.

2 Davi reuniu todos os chefes de Israel, bem como os sacerdotes e levitas. 3 Foram contados os levitas de trinta anos para cima, e seu número, contados um por um, foi de trinta e oito mil homens. 4 Destes, havia vinte e quatro mil para supervisionarem a obra da Casa do Senhor, seis mil oficiais e juízes, 5 quatro mil porteiros e quatro mil para louvarem o Senhor com os instrumentos que Davi fez para esse fim. 6 Davi os repartiu por turnos, segundo os filhos de Levi: Gérson, Coate e Merari.

7 Os filhos de Gérson foram: Ladã e Simei. 8 Os filhos de Ladã foram: Jeiel, o chefe, Zetã e Joel, três ao todo. 9 Os filhos de Simei foram: Selomite, Haziel e Harã, três ao todo. Estes foram os chefes das famílias de Ladã.

10 Os filhos de Simei foram: Jaate, Ziza, Jeús e Berias. Estes foram os filhos de Simei, quatro ao todo. 11 Jaate era o chefe e Ziza era o segundo. Jeús e Berias não tiveram muitos filhos e por isso estes dois foram contados como uma só família.

12 Os filhos de Coate foram: Anrão, Isar, Hebrom e Uziel, quatro ao todo. 13 Os filhos de Anrão foram: Arão e Moisés. Arão foi separado para servir no Santo dos Santos, ele e os seus filhos, para sempre, e para queimar incenso diante do Senhor, para o servir e para dar a bênção em seu nome, para sempre. 14 Quanto a Moisés, homem de Deus, seus filhos foram contados entre a tribo de Levi. 15 Os filhos de Moisés foram: Gérson e Eliézer. 16 O filho de Gérson foi Sebuel, o chefe. 17 O filho de Eliézer foi Reabias, o chefe; e ele não teve outros filhos; mas os filhos de Reabias se multiplicaram grandemente.

18 Os filhos de Isar foram: Selomite, o chefe. 19 Os filhos de Hebrom foram: Jerias, o chefe, Amarias, o segundo, Jaaziel, o terceiro, e Jecameão, o quarto. 20 Os filhos de Uziel foram: Mica, o chefe, e Issias, o segundo.

21 Os filhos de Merari foram: Mali e Musi. Os filhos de Mali foram: Eleazar e Quis. 22 Eleazar morreu e não teve filhos, porém filhas; e os filhos de Quis, seus parentes, casaram com elas. 23 Os filhos de Musi foram: Mali, Éder e Jerimote, três ao todo.

24 Estes foram os filhos de Levi, segundo as suas famílias e chefes delas, segundo foram contados nominalmente, um por um, de vinte anos para cima, encarregados do ministério da Casa do Senhor. 25 Porque Davi disse:

— O Senhor, Deus de Israel, deu paz ao seu povo e habitará em Jerusalém para sempre. 26 Assim, os levitas já não precisarão levar o tabernáculo e nenhum dos utensílios para o seu ministério.

27 Porque, segundo as últimas palavras de Davi, foram contados os filhos de Levi de vinte anos para cima. 28 O serviço deles era ajudar os filhos de Arão no ministério da Casa do Senhor, nos átrios e nas câmaras, na purificação de todas as coisas sagradas e na obra do ministério da Casa de Deus, 29 a saber, cuidar dos pães da proposição, da melhor farinha para a oferta de cereais, dos bolos sem fermento, das ofertas assadas e das misturadas com azeite, bem como dos pesos e das medidas. 30 Deviam estar presentes todas as manhãs e todas as tardes para darem graças ao Senhor e o louvarem, 31 e sempre que fossem oferecidos os holocaustos do Senhor, nos sábados, nas Festas da Lua Nova e nas festas fixas, diante do Senhor, segundo o número determinado. 32 Os filhos de Levi deviam cuidar da tenda do encontro e do santuário e deviam ajudar os filhos de Arão, seus irmãos, no ministério da Casa do Senhor.

1 Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel. 2 He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 3 The Levites were counted from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. 4 David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of Yahweh’s house, six thousand were officers and judges, 5 four thousand were doorkeepers, and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made for giving praise."

6 David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan. 10 The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 11 Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name forever. 14 But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. 17 The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18 The son of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only; and their relatives, the sons of Kish, took them as wives. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of Yahweh’s house, from twenty years old and upward. 25 For David said, "Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26 Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service." 27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were counted, from twenty years old and upward. 28 For their duty was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of Yahweh’s house—in the courts, in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house; 29 for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all measurements of quantity and size; 30 and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and likewise in the evening; 31 and to offer all burnt offerings to Yahweh on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahweh; 32 and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers for the service of Yahweh’s house.
