1 After the plague Jehovah said to Moses and Eleazar son of the priest Aaron:2 »Take a census of the entire congregation of Israel by households. List those who are at least twenty years old and eligible for military duty.«3 Moses and the priest Eleazar spoke to the Israelites on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho. They said:4 »Take a census of those at least twenty years old, as Jehovah commanded Moses.« These are the Israelites who came from Egypt:5 Reuben was Israel’s firstborn. The descendants of Reuben were the family of Hanoch, the family of Pallu,6 the family of Hezron, and the family of Carmi.7 These were the families of Reuben. The total number of men was forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.8 Eliab was the son of Pallu,9 and Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram were the sons of Eliab. It was Dathan and Abiram, men chosen by the community, who defied Moses and Aaron’s authority. They joined Korah’s followers when they defied Jehovah’s authority.10 The ground opened up and swallowed them along with Korah. They and their followers died when the fire consumed the two hundred and fifty men. This was a warning.11 The descendants of Korah did not die.12 The families descended from Simeon were the family of Nemuel, the family of Jamin, the family of Jakin,13 the family of Zerah, and the family of Shaul.14 These were the families of Simeon. The total number of men was twenty-two thousand two hundred.15 The families descended from Gad were the family of Zephon, the family of Haggi, the family of Shuni,16 the family of Ozni, the family of Eri,17 the family of Arodi, and the family of Areli.18 These were the families of Gad’s descendants. The total number of men was forty thousand five hundred.19 Er and Onan were sons of Judah, but they died in Canaan.20 The families descended from Judah were the family of Shelah, the family of Perez, and the family of Zerah.21 The descendants of Perez were the family of Hezron and the family of Hamul.22 These were the families of Judah. The total number of men was seventy-six thousand five hundred.23 The families descended from Issachar were the family of Tola, the family of Puah,24 the family of Jashub, and the family of Shimron.25 These were the families of Issachar. The total number of men was sixty-four thousand three hundred.26 The families descended from Zebulun were the family of Sered, the family of Elon, and the family of Jahleel.27 These were the families of Zebulun. The total number of men was sixty thousand five hundred.28 The families descended from Joseph through Manasseh and Ephraim were29 from Manasseh the family of Machir who was the father of Gilead and the family of Gilead.30 The descendants of Gilead were the family of Iezer, the family of Helek,31 the family of Asriel, the family of Shechem,32 the family of Shemida, and the family of Hepher.33 Zelophehad, son of Hepher, had no sons-only daughters. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.34 These were the families of Manasseh. The total number of men was fifty-two thousand seven hundred.35 The families descended from Ephraim were the family of Shuthelah, the family of Beker, and the family of Tahan.36 The descendants of Shuthelah were the family of Eran.37 These were the families of Ephraim’s descendants. The total number of men was thirty-two thousand five hundred. These were the families descended from Joseph.38 The families descended from Benjamin were the family of Bela, the family of Ashbel, the family of Ahiram,39 the family of Shupham, and the family of Hupham.40 The descendants of Bela through Ard and Naaman were the family of Ard and the family of Naaman.41 These were the families descended from Benjamin. The total number of men was forty-five thousand six hundred.42 The family descended from Dan was the family of Shuham. This was the family descended from Dan.43 The total number of men in all the family of Shuham was sixty-four thousand four hundred.44 The families descended from Asher were the family of Imnah, the family of Ishvi, and the family of Beriah.45 The descendants of Beriah were the family of Heber and the family of Malchiel.46 Asher had a daughter named Serah.47 These were the families of Asher’s descendants. The total number of men was fifty-three thousand four hundred.48 The families descended from Naphtali were the family of Jahzeel, the family of Guni,49 the family of Jezer, and the family of Shillem.50 These were the families of Naphtali. The total number of men was forty-five thousand four hundred.51 The total number of Israelite men was six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.52 Jehovah said to Moses:53 »Use the list of names from the census to divide the land these people will possess.54 »Give more land to larger tribes and less land to smaller ones. Use the totals from the census in giving land to each tribe.55 »The land must also be divided by drawing lots. The tribes will receive their land based on the names of their ancestors.56 »Whether the tribes are large or small, the land must be divided by drawing lots.«57 The families descended from Levi were listed as the family of Gershon, the family of Kohath, and the family of Merari.58 These were the families of Levi: the Libnite family, the Hebronite family, the Mahlite family, the Mushite family, and the Korahite family. Kohath was the ancestor of Amram.59 The name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, a descendant of Levi, who was born in Egypt. She gave birth to Amram’s children: Aaron, Moses, and their sister Miriam.60 Aaron was the father of Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.61 Nadab and Abihu died because they offered unauthorized fire in Jehovah’s presence.62 The total number of all the Levite males at least one month old was twenty-three thousand. They were not counted along with the other Israelites, because they were given no land of their own.63 Moses and the priest Eleazar added up the total number of Israelites on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho.64 Not a single one of the Israelites Moses and the priest Aaron had counted in the Desert of Sinai were there.65 Jehovah said: »They must all die in the desert wilderness.« The only ones left were Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

Estes são aqueles Datã e Abirão que foram chamados da congregação, os quais contenderam contra Moisés e contra Arão na companhia de Corá, quando contenderam contra o Senhor,10 e a terra abriu a boca, e os tragou juntamente com Corá, quando pereceu aquela companhia; quando o fogo devorou duzentos e cinqüenta homens, os quais serviram de advertência.11 Todavia os filhos de Corá não morreram.12 Os filhos de Simeão, segundo as suas famílias: de Nemuel, a família dos nemuelitas; de Jamim, a família dos jaminitas; de Jaquim, a família dos jaquinitas;13 de Zerá, a família dos zeraítas; de Saul, a família dos saulitas.14 Estas são as famílias dos simeonitas, vinte e dois mil e duzentos.15 Os filhos de Gade, segundo as suas famílias: de Zefom, a família dos zefonitas; de Hagui, a família dos haguitas; de Suni, a família dos sunitas;16 de Ozni, a família dos oznitas; de Eri, a família dos eritas;17 de Arode, a família dos aroditas; de Areli, a família dos arelitas.18 Estas são as famílias dos filhos de Gade, segundo os que foram deles contados, quarenta mil e quinhentos.19 Os filhos de Judá: Er e Onã; mas Er e Onã morreram na terra de Canaã.20 Assim os filhos de Judá, segundo as suas famílias, eram: de Selá, a família dos selanitas; de Pérez, a família dos perezitas; de Zerá, a família dos zeraítas.21 E os filhos de Pérez eram: de Hezrom, a família dos hezronitas; de Hamul, a família dos hamulitas.22 Estas são as famílias de Judá, segundo os que foram deles contados, setenta e seis mil e quinhentos.23 Os filhos de Issacar, segundo as suas famílias: de Tola, a família dos tolaítas; de Puva, a família dos puvitas;24 de Jasube, a família dos jasubitas; de Sinrom, a família dos sinronitas.25 Estas são as famílias de Issacar, segundo os que foram deles contados, sessenta e quatro mil e trezentos:26 Os filhos de Zebulom, segundo as suas famílias: de Serede, a família dos sereditas; de Elom, a família dos elonitas; de Jaleel, a família dos jaleelitas.27 Estas são as famílias dos zebulonitas, segundo os que foram deles contados, sessenta mil e quinhentos.28 Os filhos de José, segundo as suas famílias: Manassés e Efraim.29 Os filhos de Manassés: de Maquir, a família dos maquiritas; e Maquir gerou a Gileade; de Gileade, a família dos gileaditas.30 Estes são os filhos de Gileade: de Iezer, a família dos iezritas; de Heleque, a família dos helequitas;31 de Asriel, a família dos asrielitas; de Siquém, a família dos siquemitas;32 e de Semida, a família dos semidaítas; e de Hefer, a família dos heferitas.33 Ora, Zelofeade, filho de Hefer, não tinha filhos, senão filhas; e as filhas de Zelofeade chamavam-se Macla, Noa, Hogla, Milca e Tirza.34 Estas são as famílias de Manassés; os que foram deles contados, eram cinqüenta e dois mil e setecentos.35 Estes são os filhos de Efraim, segundo as suas famílias: de Sutela, a família dos sutelaítas; de Bequer, a família dos bequeritas; de Taã, a família dos taanitas.36 E estes são os filhos de Sutela: de Erã, a família dos eranitas.37 Estas são as famílias dos filhos de Efraim, segundo os que foram deles contados, trinta e dois mil e quinhentos. Estes são os filhos de José, segundo as suas famílias.38 Os filhos de Benjamim, segundo as suas famílias: de Belá, a família dos belaítas; de Asbel, a família dos asbelitas; de Airão, a família dos airamitas;39 de Sefufã, a família dos sufamitas; de Hufão, a família dos hufamitas.40 E os filhos de Belá eram Arde e Naamã: de Arde a família dos arditas; de Naamã, a família dos naamitas.41 Estes são os filhos de Benjamim, segundo as suas famílias; os que foram deles contados, eram quarenta e cinco mil e seiscentos.42 Estes são os filhos de Dã, segundo as suas famílias: de Suão a família dos suamitas. Estas são as famílias de Dã, segundo as suas famílias.43 Todas as famílias dos suamitas, segundo os que foram deles contados, eram sessenta e quatro mil e quatrocentos.44 Os filhos de Aser, segundo as suas famílias: de Imná, a família dos imnitas; de Isvi, a família dos isvitas; de Berias, a família dos beritas.45 Dos filhos de Berias: de Heber, a família dos heberitas; de Malquiel, a família dos malquielitas.46 E a filha de Aser chamava-se Sera.47 Estas são as famílias dos filhos de Aser, segundo os que foram deles contados, cinqüenta e três mil e quatrocentos.48 Os filhos de Naftali, segundo as suas famílias: de Jazeel, a família dos jazeelitas; de Guni, a família dos gunitas;49 de Jezer, a família dos jezeritas; de Silém, a família dos silemitas.50 Estas são as famílias de Naftali, segundo as suas famílias; os que foram deles contados, eram quarenta e cinco mil e quatrocentos.51 Estes são os que foram contados dos filhos de Israel, seiscentos e um mil setecentos e trinta.52 Disse mais o senhor a Moisés:53 A estes se repartirá a terra em herança segundo o número dos nomes.54 À tribo de muitos darás herança maior, e à de poucos darás herança menor; a cada qual se dará a sua herança segundo os que foram deles contados.55 Todavia a terra se repartirá por sortes; segundo os nomes das tribos de seus pais a herdarão.56 Segundo sair a sorte, se repartirá a herança deles entre as tribos de muitos e as de poucos.57 Também estes são os que foram contados dos levitas, segundo as suas famílias: de Gérson, a família dos gersonitas; de Coate, a família dos coatitas; de Merári, a família os meraritas.58 Estas são as famílias de Levi: a família dos libnitas, a família dos hebronitas, a família dos malitas, a família dos musitas, a família dos coraítas. Ora, Coate gerou a Anrão.59 E a mulher de Anrão chamava-se Joquebede, filha de Levi, a qual nasceu a Levi no Egito; e de Anrão ela teve Arão e Moisés, e Miriã, irmã deles.60 E a Arão nasceram Nadabe e Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar.61 Mas Nadabe e Abiú morreram quando ofereceram fogo estranho perante o Senhor.62 E os que foram deles contados eram vinte e três mil, todos os homens da idade de um mês para cima; porque não foram contados entre os filhos de Israel, porquanto não lhes foi dada herança entre os filhos de Israel.63 Esses são os que foram contados por Moisés e Eleazar, o sacerdote, que contaram os filhos de Israel nas planícies de Moabe, junto ao Jordão, na altura de Jericó.64 Entre esses, porém, não se achava nenhum daqueles que tinham sido contados por Moisés e Arão, o sacerdote, quando contaram os filhos de Israel no deserto de Sinai.65 Porque o senhor dissera deles: Certamente morrerão no deserto; pelo que nenhum deles ficou, senão Calebe, filho de Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Num.
