1 Jehovah said to Moses:2 »Speak to Aaron and tell him: ‘When you set up the seven lamps on the lamp stand, they should illuminate the area in front of it.’«3 So Aaron set up the lamps on the lamp stand to illuminate the area in front of it, as Jehovah commanded Moses.4 This is how the lamp stand was made: The whole lamp stand, from top to bottom, was hammered out of gold. It was made exactly like the one Jehovah had shown Moses.5 Jehovah said to Moses:6 »Separate the Levites from the rest of the Israelites. Make them clean.7 »This is what you must do to make them clean: Sprinkle them with water to take away their sins. Make them shave their whole bodies and wash their clothes. Then they will be clean.8 »They must take a young bull and the grain offering of flour mixed with olive oil that is offered with it. You must take a second young bull as an offering for sin.9 »Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting. Assemble the whole congregation of Israel.10 »Then bring the Levites into Jehovah’s presence, and the Israelites will place their hands on them.11 »Aaron will present the Levites to Jehovah as an offering from the Israelites. Then they will be ready to do Jehovah’s work.12 »The Levites will place their hands on the heads of the young bulls. Sacrifice one of them as an offering for sin and the other one as a burnt offering to Jehovah. These sacrifices will pay compensation for wrongdoing and make peace with Jehovah for the Levites.13 »Make the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons, and present them as an offering to Jehovah.14 »In this way you will separate the Levites from the other Israelites. The Levites will be mine.15 »Once you have made them clean and presented them as an offering, the Levites may come and do their work at the tent of meeting.16 »They will be the only Israelites given to me. I have taken them to be mine as substitutes for every firstborn male offspring of the Israelites.17 »When I killed all the first-born in Egypt, I consecrated as my own the oldest son of each Israelite family and the first-born of every animal.18 »I am now taking the Levites instead of all the first-born of the Israelites.19 »I assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons, as a gift from the Israelites. They are to work in the tent for the people of Israel and to protect the Israelites from the disaster that would strike them if they came too near the Holy Place.«20 Moses, Aaron, and all the people of Israel dedicated the Levites, as Jehovah commanded Moses.21 So the Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes. Aaron dedicated them as a special gift to Jehovah. He also performed the ritual of purification for them.22 The people did everything Jehovah commanded Moses concerning the Levites. Thus the Levites were qualified to work in the tent under Aaron and his sons.23 Jehovah said to Moses:24 »From the age of twenty-five each Levite shall perform his duties in the tent of my presence,25 »They must retire from active service when they are fifty years old.26 »They may assist the other Levites in their duties at the tent of meeting. But they may not do any regular work. This is how you will handle the Levites’ duties.«

1 Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés:2 Fala a Arão, e dize-lhe: Quando acenderes as lâmpadas, as sete lâmpadas alumiarão o espaço em frente do candelabro.3 Arão, pois, assim fez; acendeu as lâmpadas do candelabro de modo que alumiassem o espaço em frente do mesmo, como o Senhor ordenara a Moisés.4 Esta era a obra do candelabro, obra de ouro batido; desde o seu pedestal até as suas corolas, era ele de ouro batido; conforme o modelo que o Senhor mostrara a Moisés, assim ele tinha feito o candelabro.5 Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés:6 Toma os levitas do meio dos filhos de Israel, e purifica-os;7 e assim lhes farás, para os purificar: esparge sobre eles a água da purificação; e eles farão passar a navalha sobre todo o seu corpo, e lavarão os seus vestidos, e se purificarão.8 Depois tomarão um novilho, com a sua oferta de cereais de flor de farinha amassada com azeite; e tomarás tu outro novilho para oferta pelo pecado.9 Também farás chegar os levitas perante a tenda da revelação, e ajuntarás toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel.10 Apresentarás, pois, os levitas perante o Senhor, e os filhos do Israel porão as suas mãos sobre os levitas.11 E Arão oferecerá os levitas perante o Senhor como oferta de movimento, da parte dos filhos de Israel, para que sirvam no ministério do Senhor.12 Os levitas porão as suas mãos sobre a cabeça dos novilhos; então tu sacrificarás um como oferta pelo pecado, e o outro como holocausto ao Senhor, para fazeres expiação pelos levitas.13 E porás os levitas perante Arão, e perante os seus filhos, e os oferecerás como oferta de movimento ao Senhor.14 Assim separarás os levitas do meio dos filhos de Israel; e os levitas serão meus.15 Depois disso os levitas entrarão para fazerem o serviço da tenda da revelação, depois de os teres purificado e oferecido como oferta de movimento.16 Porquanto eles me são dados inteiramente dentre os filhos de Israel; em lugar de todo aquele que abre a madre, isto é, do primogênito de todos os filhos de Israel, para mim os tenho tomado.17 Porque meu é todo primogênito entre os filhos de Israel, tanto entre os homens como entre os animais; no dia em que, na terra do Egito, feri a todo primogênito, os santifiquei para mim.18 Mas tomei os levitas em lugar de todos os primogênitos entre os filhos de Israel.19 Dentre os filhos de Israel tenho dado os levitas a Arão e a seus filhos, para fazerem o serviço dos filhos de Israel na tenda da revelação, e para fazerem expiação por eles, a fim de que não haja praga entre eles, quando se aproximarem do santuário.20 Assim Moisés e Arão e toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel fizeram aos levitas; conforme tudo o que o Senhor ordenara a Moisés no tocante aos levitas, assim os filhos de Israel lhes fizeram.21 Os levitas, pois, purificaram-se, e lavaram os seus vestidos; e Arão os ofereceu como oferta de movimento perante o Senhor, e fez expiação por eles, para purificá-los.22 Depois disso entraram os levitas, para fazerem o seu serviço na tenda da revelação, perante Arão e seus filhos; como o Senhor ordenara a Moisés acerca dos levitas, assim lhes fizeram.23 Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés:24 Este será o encargo dos levitas: Da idade de vinte e cinco anos para cima entrarão para se ocuparem no serviço a tenda da revelação;25 e aos cinqüenta anos de idade sairão desse serviço e não servirão mais.26 Continuarão a servir, porém, com seus irmãos na tenda da revelação, orientando-os no cumprimento dos seus encargos; mas não farão trabalho. Assim farás para com os levitas no tocante aos seus cargos.
