1 Mais uma vez Davi reuniu os melhores soldados de Israel, num total de trinta mil homens. 2 Levou-os à cidade de Baalá, em Judá, para pegarem a arca da aliança, que tem o nome do Senhor Todo-Poderoso, que se assenta no seu trono, entre os querubins. 3 Colocaram a arca num carro de bois, novo, e a tiraram da casa de Abinadabe, que ficava num monte. Uzá e Aiô, filhos de Abinadabe, guiavam o carro 4 que carregava a arca. Aiô caminhava na frente. 5 Davi e todos os israelitas dançavam e cantavam com todas as suas forças em louvor a Deus, o Senhor. Eles tocavam harpas, liras, tambores, castanholas e pratos.

6 Quando chegaram ao campo de descascar cereais que pertencia a Nacom, os bois tropeçaram. Então Uzá estendeu a mão e segurou a arca da aliança. 7 O Senhor Deus ficou irado com Uzá, por sua falta de respeito, e o matou. E Uzá morreu ali, ao lado da arca. 8 Davi ficou furioso porque o Senhor, na sua ira, havia castigado Uzá; assim até hoje aquele lugar é chamado de Peres-Uzá .

9 Então Davi ficou com medo de Deus, o Senhor, e disse:

— E agora como é que poderei levar comigo a arca da aliança?

10 Assim Davi resolveu não levar a arca para a sua cidade de Jerusalém; em vez disso, ele mudou de direção e a levou para a casa de Obede-Edom, que era da cidade de Gate. 11 A arca da aliança ficou ali três meses, e o Senhor abençoou Obede-Edom e a sua família.

12 O rei Davi soube que, por causa da arca, o Senhor havia abençoado a família de Obede-Edom e tudo o que ele tinha. Então tirou a arca da casa de Obede-Edom e, com uma grande festa, a levou para a Cidade de Davi. 13 Depois que os homens que carregavam a arca deram seis passos, Davi ofereceu a Deus em sacrifício um touro e um bezerro gordo. 14 Davi, vestindo um manto sacerdotal de linho, dançou com todo o entusiasmo em louvor a Deus, o Senhor. 15 E assim ele e todos os israelitas levaram a arca da aliança para Jerusalém, com gritos de alegria e sons de trombetas.

16 Quando a arca estava entrando na cidade, Mical, filha de Saul, olhou pela janela, viu o rei Davi pulando e dançando em louvor ao Senhor. Então sentiu por ele um profundo desprezo.

17 Levaram a arca e a colocaram no seu lugar, na barraca que Davi tinha preparado para ela. Então ele ofereceu a Deus, o Senhor, sacrifícios que foram completamente queimados e ofertas de paz. 18 Quando acabou de oferecer os sacrifícios e as ofertas, Davi abençoou o povo em nome do Senhor Todo-Poderoso. 19 Depois deu a cada homem e a cada mulher de Israel um pão, um pedaço de carne assada e passas. Em seguida todos foram para casa.

20 Davi voltou para casa a fim de estar com a sua família, e Mical, filha de Saul, saiu para encontrá-lo. Ela disse:

— Que bela figura fez hoje o rei de Israel! Parecia um sem-vergonha, mostrando o corpo para as empregadas dos seus funcionários!

21 Davi respondeu:

— Eu estava dançando em louvor ao Senhor, que preferiu me escolher em vez de escolher o seu pai e os descendentes dele e me fez o líder de Israel, o seu povo. Pois eu continuarei a dançar em louvor ao Senhor 22 e me humilharei ainda mais diante dele. Você pode pensar que eu não sou nada, mas aquelas moças de quem você falou vão me dar muito valor!

23 E Mical, filha de Saul, nunca teve filhos.

1 And David, once more, gathered together all the choice young men in Israel, thirty thousand.

2 Then David, and all the people that were with him, arose and went beyond Baale Judah,to bring up from thence, the ark of God, the name whereof is called by the name of Yahweh of hosts, who inhabiteth the cherubim thereupon.

3 So they carried the ark of God in a new waggon, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, who was in Gibeah,and, Uzza and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were driving the new waggon.

4 So they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was in Gibeah, with the ark of God,and, Ahio, was going before the ark.

5 And, David and all the house of Israel, were dancing for joy before Yahweh, with all boldness and with songs,and with lyres, and with harps, and with timbrels, and with sistrums, and with cymbals.

6 And, when they came as far as the threshing-floor of Nachon, Uzzah thrust forth his hand unto the ark of God, and took hold of it, for the oxen were restive.

7 Then was kindled the anger of Yahweh, against Uzzah, and God smote him there, for the error,so that he died there, by the ark of God.

8 And it was a sadness unto David, for that Yahweh had broken in with a breach against Uzzah,therefore called he that place, Perez-uzzah until this day.

9 And David was afraid of Yahweh, on that day,and said, How can the ark of Yahweh come unto me?

10 So David would not remove unto him the ark of Yahweh, unto the city of David,but David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom, the Gittite.

11 And the ark of Yahweh abode in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite, three months,and Yahweh blessed Obed -edom, and all his household.

12 And it was told King David, saying, Yahweh hath blessed the household of Obed-edom, and all that he hath, because of the ark of God. David therefore went and brought up the ark of God, out of the house of Obed-edom, unto the city of David, with rejoicing.

13 And so it was that, when they who bare the ark of Yahweh had stepped forward six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a heifer.

14 And, David, was dancing with all boldness before Yahweh,David, being girt with an ephod of linen.

15 So, David and all the house of Israel, were bringing up the ark of Yahweh,with triumphant shoutings, and with the sound of a horn.

16 Now it so came about that, when the ark of Yahweh entered the city of David, Michal Sauls daughter, looked out through the window, and saw King David, leaping and dancing before Yahweh, and she despised him, in her heart.

17 So they brought in the ark of Yahweh, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent which David had stretched out for it,and David caused to go up ascending-sacrifices before Yahweh, and peace-offerings.

18 And, when David had finished offering up the ascending-sacrifice and the peace-offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of hosts.

19 And he apportioned to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, both to men and to womento every one, a loaf of bread, and a sweet drink, and a raisin-cake,and all the people went their way, every one unto his own house;

20 and David returned, to bless his household. Then came forth Michal Sauls daughter to meet David, and saidHow honoured, to-day, was the king of Israel in disrobing himself to-day, in the sight of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the low people, might disrobe himself?

21 And David said unto Michal, Before Yahweh, I will dance,blessed, be Yahweh, who made choice of me above thy father, and above all his house, putting me in charge as leader over the people of Yahweh, over Israel,therefore will I dance before Yahweh;

22 and will make myself, yet more, lightly esteemed that this, and become lowly in mine own eyes,nevertheless, with the handmaids of whom thou hast spoken, with them, shall I be honoured.

23 Therefore, Michal Sauls daughter, had no child,unto the day of her death.
