Isaías 21

Profecia contra a Babilônia

1 Advertência contra o deserto junto ao mar:

Como um vendaval em redemoinhos que varre todo o Neguebe,

um invasor vem do deserto,

de uma terra pavorosa.

2 Eu tive uma visão terrível:

o traidor fora traído, e o saqueador, saqueado.

Elão, vá à luta! Média, feche o cerco!

Porque ponho fim a todo gemido que ela provocou.

3 Diante disso, fiquei tomado de angústia,

tive dores como as de uma mulher em trabalho de parto;

estou tão transtornado que não posso ouvir,

tão atônito que não posso ver.

4 O meu coração estremece,

o temor toma conta de mim;

o anoitecer que eu tanto aguardava

transformou-se em terror para mim.

5 Eles põem as mesas,

estendem a toalha,

comem e bebem!

Levantem-se, líderes,

preparem os seus escudos com óleo!

6 Assim me diz o Senhor:

"Vá, coloque um vigia de prontidão

para que ele anuncie o que vê.

7 Quando ele vir carruagens

com parelhas de cavalos,

homens montados em jumentos

ou montados em camelos,

que fique alerta,

bem alerta".

8 Então, o vigia*21.8 Conforme os manuscritos do mar Morto e a Versão Siríaca. O Texto Massorético traz um leão. gritou:

"Dia após dia, meu senhor, eu fico na torre das sentinelas;

todas as noites permaneço em meu posto.

9 Veja! Ali vem um homem em uma carruagem

com uma parelha de cavalos.

E esta é a sua resposta:

‘Caiu! Babilônia caiu!

Todas as imagens dos seus deuses

estão despedaçadas no chão!’ ".

10 Ah, meu povo malhado na eira!

Eu conto a vocês o que ouvi

da parte do Senhor dos Exércitos,

da parte do Deus de Israel.

Profecia contra Edom

11 Advertência contra Dumá:*21.11 Dumá significa silêncio, um trocadilho com a palavra Edom.

Gente de Seir me pergunta:

"Guarda, quanto ainda falta para acabar a noite?

Guarda, quanto falta para acabar a noite?".

12 O guarda responde:

"Logo chega o dia, mas a noite também vem.

Se vocês quiserem perguntar de novo,

voltem e perguntem".

Profecia contra a Arábia

13 Advertência contra a Arábia:

Vocês, caravanas de dedanitas,

que acampam nos bosques da Arábia,

14 tragam água para os sedentos;

vocês, que vivem em Temá,

tragam comida para os fugitivos.

15 Eles fogem da espada,

da espada desembainhada,

do arco preparado

e da crueldade da batalha.

16 Assim me diz o Senhor:

— Dentro de um ano, como o ano de um contrato de trabalho, toda a pompa de Quedar chegará ao fim. 17 Poucos serão os sobreviventes dos flecheiros, dos guerreiros de Quedar.

O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, falou.

1 A prophecy against the Desert by the Sea:

Like whirlwinds sweeping through the southland,

an invader comes from the desert,

from a land of terror.

2 A dire vision has been shown to me:

The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot.

Elam, attack! Media, lay siege!

I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.

3 At this my body is racked with pain,

pangs seize me, like those of a woman in labor;

I am staggered by what I hear,

I am bewildered by what I see.

4 My heart falters,

fear makes me tremble;

the twilight I longed for

has become a horror to me.

5 They set the tables,

they spread the rugs,

they eat, they drink!

Get up, you officers,

oil the shields!

6 This is what the Lord says to me:

"Go, post a lookout

and have him report what he sees.

7 When he sees chariots

with teams of horses,

riders on donkeys

or riders on camels,

let him be alert,

fully alert."

"Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower;

every night I stay at my post.

9 Look, here comes a man in a chariot

with a team of horses.

And he gives back the answer:

‘Babylon has fallen, has fallen!

All the images of its gods

lie shattered on the ground!’ "

10 My people who are crushed on the threshing floor,

I tell you what I have heard

from the Lord Almighty,

from the God of Israel.

A Prophecy Against Edom

11 A prophecy against Dumah*21:11 Dumah, a wordplay on Edom, means silence or stillness.:

Someone calls to me from Seir,

"Watchman, what is left of the night?

Watchman, what is left of the night?"

12 The watchman replies,

"Morning is coming, but also the night.

If you would ask, then ask;

and come back yet again."

A Prophecy Against Arabia

13 A prophecy against Arabia:

You caravans of Dedanites,

who camp in the thickets of Arabia,

14 bring water for the thirsty;

you who live in Tema,

bring food for the fugitives.

15 They flee from the sword,

from the drawn sword,

from the bent bow

and from the heat of battle.

16 This is what the Lord says to me: "Within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end. 17 The survivors of the archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few." The Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken.
