1 Disse o Senhor a Moisés: "Talhe duas tábuas de pedra semelhantes às primeiras, e nelas escreverei as palavras que estavam nas primeiras tábuas que você quebrou.2 Esteja pronto pela manhã para subir ao monte Sinai. E lá mesmo, no alto do monte, apresente-se a mim.3 Ninguém poderá ir com você nem ficar em lugar algum do monte; nem mesmo ovelhas e bois deverão pastar diante do monte".4 Assim Moisés lavrou duas tábuas de pedra semelhantes às primeiras e subiu ao monte Sinai, logo de manhã, como o Senhor lhe havia ordenado, levando nas mãos as duas tábuas de pedra.5 Então o Senhor desceu na nuvem, permaneceu ali com ele e proclamou o seu nome: o Senhor.6 E passou diante de Moisés, proclamando: "Senhor, Senhor, Deus compassivo e misericordioso, paciente, cheio de amor e de fidelidade,7 que mantém o seu amor a milhares e perdoa a maldade, a rebelião e o pecado. Contudo, não deixa de punir o culpado; castiga os filhos e os netos pelo pecado de seus pais, até a terceira e a quarta gerações".8 Imediatamente Moisés prostrou-se, rosto em terra, e o adorou, dizendo:9 "Senhor, se de fato me aceitas com agrado, acompanha-nos o Senhor. Mesmo sendo esse um povo obstinado, perdoa a nossa maldade e o nosso pecado e faze de nós a tua herança".10 "Faço com vocês uma aliança", disse o Senhor. "Diante de todo o seu povo farei maravilhas jamais realizadas na presença de nenhum outro povo do mundo. O povo no meio do qual você habita verá a obra maravilhosa que eu, o Senhor, farei.11 Obedeça às ordens que hoje lhe dou. Expulsarei de diante de você os amorreus, os cananeus, os hititas, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.12 Acautele-se para não fazer acordo com aqueles que vivem na terra para a qual você está indo, pois eles se tornariam uma armadilha.13 Pelo contrário, derrube os altares deles, quebre as suas colunas sagradas e corte os seus postes sagrados.14 Nunca adore nenhum outro deus, porque o Senhor, cujo nome é Zeloso, é de fato Deus zeloso.15 "Acautele-se para não fazer acordo com aqueles que já vivem na terra; pois quando eles se prostituírem, seguindo aos seus deuses e lhes oferecerem sacrifícios, convidarão você e poderão levá-lo a comer dos seus sacrifícios16 e escolher para os seus filhos mulheres dentre as filhas deles. Quando elas se prostituírem, seguindo aos seus deuses, poderão levar os seus filhos a se prostituírem também.17 "Não faça ídolos de metal para você.18 "Celebre a festa dos pães sem fermento. Durante sete dias coma pão sem fermento, como lhe ordenei. Faça isso no tempo certo, no mês de abibe, porquanto naquele mês você saiu do Egito.19 "O primeiro a nascer de cada ventre me pertence, todos os machos dentre as primeiras crias dos seus rebanhos: bezerros, cordeiros e cabritos.20 Resgate com um cordeiro cada primeiro jumentinho que nascer; mas se não o resgatar, quebre-lhe o pescoço. Resgate todos os seus primogênitos. "Ninguém compareça perante mim de mãos vazias.21 "Trabalhe seis dias, mas descanse no sétimo; tanto na época de arar como na da colheita.22 "Celebre a festa das semanas, na ocasião dos primeiros frutos da colheita do trigo, e a festa do encerramento da colheita, no fim do ano.23 Três vezes por ano todos os homens do seu povo comparecerão diante do Soberano Senhor, o Deus de Israel.24 Expulsarei nações de diante de você e ampliarei o seu território. Quando você subir três vezes por ano para apresentar-se ao Senhor, o seu Deus, ninguém cobiçará a sua terra.25 "Não me ofereça o sangue de nenhum sacrifício misturado com algo fermentado, e não deixe sobra alguma do sacrifício da festa da Páscoa até a manhã seguinte.26 "Traga o melhor dos primeiros frutos da terra ao santuário do Senhor, o seu Deus. "Não cozinhe o cabrito no leite da própria mãe. "27 Disse o Senhor a Moisés: "Escreva essas palavras; porque é de acordo com elas que faço aliança com você e com Israel".28 Moisés ficou ali com o Senhor quarenta dias e quarenta noites, sem comer pão e sem beber água. E escreveu nas tábuas as palavras da aliança: os Dez Mandamentos.29 Ao descer do monte Sinai com as duas tábuas da aliança nas mãos, Moisés não sabia que o seu rosto resplandecia por ter conversado com o Senhor.30 Quando Arão e todos os israelitas viram Moisés, com o rosto resplandecente, tiveram medo de aproximar-se dele.31 Ele, porém, os chamou; Arão e os líderes da comunidade atenderam, e Moisés falou com eles.32 Depois, todos os israelitas se aproximaram, e ele lhes transmitiu todos os mandamentos que o Senhor lhe tinha dado no monte Sinai.33 Quando acabou de falar com eles, cobriu o rosto com um véu.34 Mas toda vez que entrava para estar na presença do Senhor e falar com ele, tirava o véu até sair. Sempre que saía e contava aos israelitas tudo o que lhe havia sido ordenado,35 eles viam que o seu rosto resplandecia. Então, de novo Moisés cobria o rosto com o véu até entrar de novo para falar com o Senhor.

1 And Yahweh said to Moses, Cut for yourself two tables of stone like the first ones: and I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables, which you broke.2 And be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mount.3 And no man will come up with you; neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.4 And he cut two tables of stone like the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone.5 And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.6 And Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, Yahweh, Yahweh God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and truth,7 keeping loving-kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means leave unpunished [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons, and on the sons of the sons, on the third and on the fourth generation.8 And Moses hurried, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.9 And he said, If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray you, go in the midst of us; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.10 And he said, Look, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as haven't been wrought in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which you are will see the work of Yahweh; for it is an awesome thing that I do with you.11 You observe that which I command you this day: look, I drive out before you the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.12 You be careful not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you go, or else it will be for a snare in the midst of you.13 But you{+} will break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you{+} will cut down their Asherim.14 For you will worship no other god. For Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.15 Or else, if you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, who prostitute after their gods and sacrifice to their gods, they will call you. And you will eat of their sacrifice.16 And when you take of their daughters--who prostitute after their gods--to your sons, then their daughters will make your sons prostitute after their gods.17 You will make yourself no molten gods.18 The feast of unleavened bread you will keep. Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib; for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.19 All that opens the womb is mine; and you will separate the males of all your cattle, the firstborns of cow and sheep.20 And the firstborn of a donkey you will redeem with a lamb: and if you will not redeem, then you will break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you will redeem. And none will appear before me empty.21 Six days you will work, but on the seventh day you will rest: in plowing time and in harvest you will rest.22 And you will observe the feast of weeks, [even] of the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.23 Three times in the year will all your males appear before the Sovereign Yahweh, the God of Israel.24 For I will cast out nations before you, and enlarge your borders: neither will any man desire your land, when you go up to see the face of Yahweh your God three times in the year.25 You will not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither will the sacrifice of the feast of the Passover be left to the morning.26 The first of the first fruits of your ground you will bring to the house of Yahweh your God. You will not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.27 And Yahweh said to Moses, You write these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.28 And he was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. And he wrote on the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of the testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses didn't know that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him.30 And when Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, look, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.31 And Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him: and Moses spoke to them.32 And afterward all the sons of Israel came near: and he gave them in commandment all that Yahweh had spoken with him in mount Sinai.33 And when Moses had done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.34 But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the sons of Israel that which he was commanded.35 And the sons of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
