1 Esta é a palavra que veio a Jeremias da parte do Senhor:2 "Fique junto à porta o templo do Senhor e proclame esta mensagem: " ‘Ouçam a palavra do Senhor, todos vocês de Judá que atravessam estas portas para adorar o Senhor.3 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Corrijam a sua conduta e as suas ações, eu os farei habitar neste lugar.4 Não confiem em palavras enganosas: "Este é o templo do Senhor, o templo do Senhor, o templo do Senhor! "5 Mas se vocês realmente corrigirem a sua conduta e as suas ações, e se, de fato, tratarem uns aos outros com justiça,6 se não oprimirem o estrangeiro, o órfão e a viúva e não derramarem sangue inocente neste lugar, e se vocês não seguirem outros deuses para a sua própria ruína,7 então eu os farei habitar neste lugar, na terra que dei aos seus antepassados desde a antigüidade e para sempre.8 Mas vejam! Vocês confiam em palavras enganosas e inúteis.9 " ‘Vocês pensam que podem roubar e matar, cometer adultério e jurar falsamente, queimar incenso a Baal e seguir outros deuses que vocês não conheceram,10 e depois vir e permanecer perante mim neste templo, que leva o meu nome, e dizer: Estamos seguros!, seguros para continuar com todas essas práticas repugnantes?11 Esse templo, que leva o meu nome, tornou-se para vocês um covil de ladrões? Cuidado! Eu mesmo estou vendo isso’ ", declara o Senhor.12 " ‘Portanto, vão agora a Siló, o meu lugar de adoração, onde primeiro fiz uma habitação em honra do meu nome, e vejam o que eu lhe fiz por causa da impiedade de Israel, meu povo.13 Mas agora, visto que vocês fizeram todas essas coisas, diz o Senhor, apesar de eu lhes ter falado repetidas vezes, e vocês não me terem dado atenção, e de eu lhes ter chamado, e vocês não me terem respondido,14 eu farei a este templo que leva o meu nome, no qual vocês confiam, o lugar de adoração que dei a vocês e aos seus antepassados, o mesmo que fiz a Siló.15 Expulsarei vocês da minha presença, como fiz com todos os seus compatriotas, o povo de Efraim’.16 "Mas a você, Jeremias, não ore por este povo nem faça súplicas ou pedidos em favor dele, nem interceda por ele junto a mim, pois eu não o ouvirei.17 Não vê o que estão fazendo nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém?18 Os filhos ajuntam a lenha, os pais acendem o fogo, e as mulheres preparam a massa e fazem bolos para a Rainha dos Céus. Além disso, derramam ofertas a outros deuses para provocarem a minha ira.19 Mas será que é a mim que eles estão provocando?, pergunta o Senhor. Não é a si mesmos, para a sua própria vergonha?20 " ‘Portanto, assim diz o Soberano Senhor: A minha ardente ira será derramada sobre este lugar, sobre os homens, os animais, e as árvores do campo, como também sobre o produto do solo; ela arderá como fogo, e não poderá ser extinguida.21 " ‘Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Juntem os seus holocaustos aos outros sacrifícios e comam a carne vocês mesmos!22 Quando tirei do Egito os seus antepassados, nada lhes falei nem lhes ordenei quanto a holocaustos e sacrifícios.23 Dei-lhes, entretanto, esta ordem: Obedeçam-me, e eu serei o seu Deus e vocês serão o meu povo. Vocês andarão em todo o caminho que eu lhes ordenar, para que tudo lhes vá bem.24 Mas eles não me ouviram nem me deram atenção. Antes, seguiram o raciocínio rebelde dos seus corações maus. Andaram para trás e não para a frente.25 Desde a época em que os seus antepassados saíram do Egito até o dia de hoje, eu lhes enviei os meus servos, os profetas, dia após dia.26 Mas eles não me ouviram nem me deram atenção. Antes tornaram-se obstinados e foram piores do que os antepassados deles’.27 "Quando você lhes disser tudo isso, eles não o escutarão; quando você os chamar, não responderão.28 Portanto, diga a eles: ‘Esta é uma nação que não obedeceu ao Senhor, ao seu Deus, nem aceitou a correção. A verdade foi destruída e desapareceu dos seus lábios.29 Cortem os seus cabelos consagrados e joguem-os fora. Lamentem-se sobre os montes estéreis, pois o Senhor rejeitou e abandonou esta geração que provocou a sua ira.30 " ‘Os de Judá fizeram o que eu reprovo, declara o Senhor. Profanaram o templo que leva o meu nome, colocando nele as imagens dos seus ídolos.31 Construíram o alto de Tofete no vale de Ben-Hinom, para queimarem em sacrifício os seus filhos e as suas filhas, coisa que nunca ordenei e que jamais me veio à mente.32 Por isso, certamente vêm os dias, declara o Senhor, em que não mais chamarão este lugar Tofete ou vale de Ben-Hinom, mas vale da Matança, pois ali enterrarão cadáveres até que não haja mais lugar.33 Então os cadáveres deste povo servirão de comida para as aves e para os animais, e não haverá quem os afugente.34 Darei fim às vozes de júbilo e de alegria, às vozes do noivo e da noiva nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém, pois esta terra se tornará um deserto.

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,2 Stand in the gate of Yahweh's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of Yahweh, all you{+} of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Yahweh.3 Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your{+} ways and your{+} doings, and I will make it so that you{+} stay in this place.4 Don't trust{+} in lying words, saying, The temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, are these [buildings].5 For if you{+} thoroughly amend your{+} ways and your{+} doings; if you{+} thoroughly execute justice between a man and his fellow man;6 if you{+} don't oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don't shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your{+} own hurt:7 then I will make it so that you{+} stay in this place, in the land that I gave to your{+} fathers, from of old even forevermore.8 Look, you{+} trust in lying words, that can't profit.9 Will you{+} steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you{+} haven't known,10 and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that you{+} may do all these disgusting things?11 Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your{+} eyes? Look, I, even I, have seen it, says Yahweh.12 But go{+} now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I made my name stay at first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.13 And now, because you{+} have done all these works, says Yahweh, and I spoke to you{+}, rising up early and speaking, but you{+} didn't hear; and I called you{+}, but you{+} didn't answer:14 therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, in which you{+} trust, and to the place which I gave to you{+} and to your{+} fathers, as I did to Shiloh.15 And I will cast you{+} out of my sight, as I have cast out all your{+} brothers, even the whole seed of Ephraim.16 Therefore don't pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear you.17 Don't you see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?18 The sons gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.19 Do they provoke me to anger? says Yahweh; [do they] not [provoke] themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?20 Therefore thus says the Sovereign Yahweh: Look, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, on man, and on beast, and on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it will burn, and will not be quenched.21 Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your{+} burnt-offerings to your{+} sacrifices, and eat{+} flesh.22 For I did not speak to your{+} fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt-offerings or sacrifices:23 but this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice, and I will be your{+} God, and you{+} will be my people; and walk{+} in all the way that I command you{+}, that it may be well with you{+}.24 But they didn't listen, nor incline their ear, but walked in [their own] counsels [and] in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.25 Since the day that your{+} fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent all my slaves the prophets to you{+}, daily rising up early and sending them:26 yet they didn't listen to me, nor incline their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers.27 And you will speak all these words to them; but they will not listen to you: you will also call to them; but they will not answer you.28 And you will say to them, This is the nation that has not listened to the voice of Yahweh their God, nor received instruction: truth has perished, and is cut off from their mouth.29 Cut off your hair, [O Jerusalem], and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Yahweh has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.30 For the sons of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight, says Yahweh: they have set their detestable things in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.31 And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I did not command, neither did it come into my mind.32 Therefore, look, the days come, says Yahweh, that it will no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter: for they will bury in Topheth, until there is no place [to bury].33 And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none will frighten them away.34 Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a waste.
