1 Por esse tempo, Ezequias ficou doente e estava para morrer. O profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, foi visitá-lo e transmitiu-lhe a seguinte mensagem: "Assim diz o Senhor: ‘Ponha suas coisas em ordem, pois você vai morrer. Não se recuperará dessa doença’".

2 Quando Ezequias ouviu isso, virou o rosto para a parede e orou ao Senhor: 3 "Ó Senhor, lembra-te de como sempre te servi com fidelidade e devoção, e de como sempre fiz o que é certo aos teus olhos". Depois, o rei chorou amargamente.

4 Então, antes que Isaías deixasse o pátio intermediário, recebeu esta mensagem do Senhor: 5 "Volte a Ezequias, líder de meu povo, e diga-lhe: Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de seu antepassado Davi: ‘Ouvi sua oração e vi suas lágrimas. Vou curá-lo e, daqui a três dias, você sairá da cama e irá ao templo do Senhor. 6 Acrescentarei quinze anos à sua vida e livrarei você e esta cidade do rei da Assíria. Defenderei esta cidade por causa de minha honra e por causa de meu servo Davi’".

7 Então Isaías disse: "Preparem uma pasta de figos". Os servos de Ezequias fizeram a pasta e a espalharam sobre a ferida, e Ezequias se recuperou.

8 Ezequias tinha perguntado a Isaías: "Que sinal o Senhor dará como prova de que ele vai me curar e de que irei ao templo do Senhor daqui a três dias?".

9 Isaías respondeu: "Este é o sinal do Senhor de que cumprirá o que prometeu. Você prefere que a sombra do relógio de sol avance dez graus ou recue dez graus?".

10 "É natural que a sombra avance", disse Ezequias. "Isso seria fácil. Faça-a voltar dez graus." 11 O profeta Isaías orou ao Senhor, e ele fez a sombra recuar dez graus no relógio de sol de Acaz.

12 Pouco tempo depois, Merodaque-Baladã, filho de Baladã, rei da Babilônia, enviou cartas e um presente para Ezequias, pois soube que o rei tinha estado muito doente. 13 Ezequias recebeu os mensageiros babilônios e lhes mostrou tudo que havia na casa do tesouro: a prata, o ouro, as especiarias e os óleos aromáticos. Também os levou para conhecer seu arsenal e lhes mostrou tudo que havia nos tesouros do rei. Não houve nada em seu palácio nem em seu reino que Ezequias não lhes mostrasse.

14 Então o profeta Isaías foi ver o rei Ezequias e lhe perguntou: "O que esses homens queriam? De onde vieram?".

Ezequias respondeu: "Vieram da Babilônia, uma terra distante".

15 "O que viram em seu palácio?", perguntou Isaías.

"Viram tudo", Ezequias respondeu. "Eu lhes mostrei tudo que possuo, todos os meus tesouros."

16 Então Isaías disse a Ezequias: "Ouça esta mensagem do Senhor: 17 ‘Está chegando o dia em que tudo em seu palácio, todos os tesouros que seus antepassados acumularam até agora, será levado para a Babilônia. Não ficará coisa alguma’, diz o Senhor. 18 ‘Até mesmo alguns de seus descendentes serão levados para o exílio. Eles se tornarão eunucos e servirão no palácio do rei da Babilônia’".

19 Ezequias disse a Isaías: "A mensagem do Senhor que você transmitiu é boa". Pois o rei pensava: "Pelo menos haverá paz e segurança durante minha vida".

20 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Ezequias, incluindo a extensão de seu poder e como construiu uma represa e cavou um túnel para abastecer a cidade com água, estão registrados no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá. 21 Ezequias morreu e se reuniu a seus antepassados, e seu filho Manassés foi seu sucessor.

1 In those days Hezekiah was sick and dying. Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, "Yahweh says, ‘Set your house in order; for you will die, and not live.’"

2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed to Yahweh, saying, 3 "Remember now, Yahweh, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Before Isaiah had gone out into the middle part of the city, Yahweh’s word came to him, saying, 5 "Turn back, and tell Hezekiah the prince of my people, ‘Yahweh, the God of David your father, says, "I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day, you will go up to Yahweh’s house. 6 I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake."’"

7 Isaiah said, "Take a cake of figs."

They took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What will be the sign that Yahweh will heal me, and that I will go up to Yahweh’s house the third day?"

9 Isaiah said, "This will be the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do the thing that he has spoken: should the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?"

10 Hezekiah answered, "It is a light thing for the shadow to go forward ten steps. No, but let the shadow return backward ten steps."

11 Isaiah the prophet cried to Yahweh; and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz.

12 At that time Berodach Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 13 Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all the storehouse of his precious things—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, or in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn’t show them.

14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah, and said to him, "What did these men say? From where did they come to you?"

Hezekiah said, "They have come from a far country, even from Babylon."

15 He said, "What have they seen in your house?"

Hezekiah answered, "They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them."

16 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear Yahweh’s word. 17 ‘Behold, the days come that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says Yahweh. 18 ‘They will take away some of your sons who will issue from you, whom you will father; and they will be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’"

19 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "Yahweh’s word which you have spoken is good." He said moreover, "Isn’t it so, if peace and truth will be in my days?"

20 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 21 Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
