1 O Senhor disse a Arão: "Você, seus filhos e seus parentes da tribo de Levi serão responsabilizados por quaisquer ofensas relacionadas ao santuário. Mas somente você e seus filhos serão responsabilizados por ofensas relacionadas ao serviço sacerdotal.

2 "Traga seus parentes da tribo de Levi, a tribo de seus antepassados, para ajudarem você e seus filhos a cumprir o serviço diante da tenda da aliança. 3 Quando os levitas realizarem as tarefas que lhes foram designadas na tenda, deverão cuidar para que não se aproximem de qualquer dos objetos sagrados nem do altar. Se o fizerem, tanto eles como vocês morrerão. 4 Junto com vocês, os levitas cumprirão as responsabilidades de cuidar da tenda do encontro e trabalhar nela, mas ninguém que não seja autorizado poderá se aproximar.

5 "Vocês se encarregarão pessoalmente do serviço no santuário e no altar, para que minha ira não volte a se acender contra o povo de Israel. 6 Eu mesmo escolhi, dentre todos os israelitas, seus parentes, os levitas, como presente para vocês, consagrados ao Senhor para o serviço na tenda do encontro. 7 Mas você e seus filhos, os sacerdotes, devem se encarregar pessoalmente de todo o serviço sacerdotal relacionado ao altar e ao que está por trás da cortina interna. Eu lhes dou o serviço sacerdotal como um presente. Qualquer pessoa não autorizada que se aproximar do santuário será morta".

8 O Senhor disse ainda a Arão: "Eu mesmo o encarreguei de todas as ofertas sagradas que os israelitas trazem a mim. Dou todas essas ofertas consagradas a você e a seus filhos como sua porção permanente. 9 A parte das ofertas santíssimas que não é queimada no fogo é reservada para vocês. Essa porção de todas as ofertas santíssimas trazidas a mim, tanto das ofertas de cereal como das ofertas pelo pecado e das ofertas pela culpa, é santíssima e pertence a você e a seus filhos. 10 Comam-na como oferta santíssima. Todos os sacerdotes a comerão e a considerarão santíssima.

11 "Todas as ofertas sagradas e ofertas movidas que os israelitas apresentarem a mim, movendo-as para o alto diante do altar, também pertencerão a vocês. Eu as dou a você e a seus filhos e filhas como sua porção permanente. Qualquer membro de sua família que estiver cerimonialmente puro comerá dessas ofertas.

12 "Também dou a vocês as primeiras ofertas das colheitas que o povo apresentar ao Senhor: o melhor do azeite, do vinho novo e dos cereais. 13 Todas as primeiras colheitas da terra que o povo apresentar ao Senhor pertencem a vocês. Qualquer membro de sua família que estiver cerimonialmente puro comerá desses alimentos.

14 "Tudo que em Israel for consagrado para o Senhor também pertence a vocês.

15 "O primeiro filho de cada família e a primeira cria de cada animal, oferecidos ao Senhor, serão seus. Mas o primeiro filho e a primeira cria de animais cerimonialmente impuros serão sempre resgatados. 16 Vocês deverão resgatá-los quando eles tiverem um mês de idade. (O preço do resgate é de cinco peças de prata, com base no siclo do santuário, equivalente a doze gramas cada peça.)

17 "Não deverão resgatar, porém, as primeiras crias das vacas, ovelhas e cabras; elas foram separadas. Aspirja seu sangue sobre o altar e queime a gordura como oferta especial, um aroma agradável ao Senhor. 18 A carne desses animais pertencerá a vocês, como o peito e a coxa direita que são movidas para o alto como oferta especial diante do altar. 19 Sim, eu dou a você todas essas ofertas sagradas que os israelitas apresentam ao Senhor. São para você e para seus filhos e filhas, para serem consumidos como sua porção permanente. Essa é uma aliança sem fim e irrevogável entre o Senhor e você, e também se aplica a seus descendentes".

20 O Senhor disse mais a Arão: "Vocês, sacerdotes, não receberão herança nem propriedade alguma na terra do povo. Eu sou sua propriedade e sua herança entre os israelitas. 21 Darei aos levitas os dízimos de todo o povo de Israel como herança por seus serviços na tenda do encontro.

22 "De agora em diante, nenhum israelita se aproximará da tenda do encontro. Se alguém se aproximar, será declarado culpado e morrerá. 23 Somente os levitas servirão na tenda do encontro, e serão responsabilizados por quaisquer ofensas contra ela. Essa é uma lei permanente para vocês, a ser cumprida de geração em geração. Os levitas não herdarão porção alguma de terra entre os israelitas, 24 pois eu lhes dou os dízimos dos israelitas, apresentados como ofertas para o Senhor. Essa será a herança dos levitas. Por isso eu disse que eles não herdariam terra alguma entre os israelitas".

25 O Senhor disse ainda a Moisés: 26 "Dê as seguintes instruções aos levitas. Quando receberem dos israelitas os dízimos que eu dou a vocês como sua herança, entreguem a décima parte deles — um dízimo dos dízimos — ao Senhor como oferta. 27 Essa será considerada sua oferta das colheitas, como se fosse o primeiro cereal de sua eira ou do vinho de sua prensa de uvas. 28 Apresentem a décima parte do dízimo recebido dos israelitas como oferta para o Senhor. Essa é a porção sagrada do Senhor, e vocês devem apresentá-la ao sacerdote Arão. 29 Entreguem ao Senhor as melhores porções de todas as ofertas sagradas que receberem.

30 "Dê também as seguintes instruções aos levitas. Quando apresentarem a melhor parte como sua oferta, ela será considerada como se tivesse vindo de sua própria eira ou de sua prensa de uvas. 31 Vocês e suas famílias comerão desse alimento onde quiserem, pois é a recompensa por seu serviço na tenda do encontro. 32 Não serão considerados culpados por aceitarem os dízimos, desde que entreguem a melhor porção aos sacerdotes. Mas tomem cuidado para não tratar as ofertas sagradas dos israelitas como se fosse algo qualquer. Se o fizerem, morrerão".

1 Yahweh said to Aaron, "You and your sons and your fathers’ house with you shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary; and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood. 2 Bring your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, near with you, that they may be joined to you, and minister to you; but you and your sons with you shall be before the Tent of the Testimony. 3 They shall keep your commands and the duty of the whole Tent; only they shall not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary and to the altar, that they not die, neither they nor you. 4 They shall be joined to you and keep the responsibility of the Tent of Meeting, for all the service of the Tent. A stranger shall not come near to you.

5 "You shall perform the duty of the sanctuary and the duty of the altar, that there be no more wrath on the children of Israel. 6 Behold, I myself have taken your brothers the Levites from among the children of Israel. They are a gift to you, dedicated to Yahweh, to do the service of the Tent of Meeting. 7 You and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood for everything of the altar, and for that within the veil. You shall serve. I give you the service of the priesthood as a gift. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death."

8 Yahweh spoke to Aaron, "Behold, I myself have given you the command of my wave offerings, even all the holy things of the children of Israel. I have given them to you by reason of the anointing, and to your sons, as a portion forever. 9 This shall be yours of the most holy things from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every meal offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every trespass offering of theirs, which they shall render to me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons. 10 You shall eat of it like the most holy things. Every male shall eat of it. It shall be holy to you.

11 "This is yours, too: the wave offering of their gift, even all the wave offerings of the children of Israel. I have given them to you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a portion forever. Everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it.

12 "I have given to you all the best of the oil, all the best of the vintage, and of the grain, the first fruits of them which they give to Yahweh. 13 The first-ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring to Yahweh, shall be yours. Everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it.

14 "Everything devoted in Israel shall be yours. 15 Everything that opens the womb, of all flesh which they offer to Yahweh, both of man and animal, shall be yours. Nevertheless, you shall surely redeem the firstborn of man, and you shall redeem the firstborn of unclean animals. 16 You shall redeem those who are to be redeemed of them from a month old, according to your estimation, for five shekels of money, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which weighs twenty gerahs.

17 "But you shall not redeem the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and shall burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma to Yahweh. 18 Their meat shall be yours, as the wave offering breast and as the right thigh, it shall be yours. 19 All the wave offerings of the holy things which the children of Israel offer to Yahweh, I have given you and your sons and your daughters with you, as a portion forever. It is a covenant of salt forever before Yahweh to you and to your offspring with you."

20 Yahweh said to Aaron, "You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.

21 "To the children of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service which they serve, even the service of the Tent of Meeting. 22 Henceforth the children of Israel shall not come near the Tent of Meeting, lest they bear sin, and die. 23 But the Levites shall do the service of the Tent of Meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. Among the children of Israel, they shall have no inheritance. 24 For the tithe of the children of Israel, which they offer as a wave offering to Yahweh, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance. Therefore I have said to them, ‘Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’"

25 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 26 "Moreover you shall speak to the Levites, and tell them, ‘When you take of the children of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall offer up a wave offering of it for Yahweh, a tithe of the tithe. 27 Your wave offering shall be credited to you, as though it were the grain of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the wine press. 28 Thus you also shall offer a wave offering to Yahweh of all your tithes, which you receive of the children of Israel; and of it you shall give Yahweh’s wave offering to Aaron the priest. 29 Out of all your gifts, you shall offer every wave offering to Yahweh, of all its best parts, even the holy part of it.’

30 "Therefore you shall tell them, ‘When you heave its best from it, then it shall be credited to the Levites as the increase of the threshing floor, and as the increase of the wine press. 31 You may eat it anywhere, you and your households, for it is your reward in return for your service in the Tent of Meeting. 32 You shall bear no sin by reason of it, when you have heaved from it its best. You shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, that you not die.’"
