1 O Senhor disse a Moisés: 2 "Dê as seguintes instruções a Arão. Quando você colocar as sete lâmpadas, posicione-as de modo que iluminem o espaço à frente do candelabro". 3 Arão seguiu essa instrução. Posicionou as sete lâmpadas de modo que iluminassem o espaço à frente do candelabro, conforme o Senhor havia ordenado a Moisés. 4 O candelabro todo, desde a base até as flores, era de ouro batido. Foi feito exatamente de acordo com o modelo que o Senhor havia mostrado a Moisés.

5 O Senhor disse a Moisés: 6 "Agora, separe os levitas do restante dos israelitas e torne-os cerimonialmente puros. 7 Para isso, você aspergirá sobre eles a água da purificação e os fará raspar todo o corpo e lavar as roupas. Assim, estarão cerimonialmente puros. 8 Instrua-os a trazerem um novilho e uma oferta de cereal de farinha da melhor qualidade umedecida com azeite, junto com outro novilho como oferta pelo pecado. 9 Reúna toda a comunidade de Israel e apresente os levitas à entrada da tenda do encontro. 10 Quando você trouxer os levitas diante do Senhor, os israelitas colocarão as mãos sobre eles. 11 Com as mãos levantadas, Arão apresentará os levitas ao Senhor como oferta especial dos israelitas e, desse modo, os consagrará ao serviço do Senhor.

12 "Em seguida, os levitas colocarão as mãos sobre a cabeça dos novilhos. Você sacrificará um novilho ao Senhor como oferta pelo pecado, e o outro, como holocausto, a fim de fazer expiação pelos levitas. 13 Coloque os levitas em pé diante de Arão e de seus filhos e, com as mãos levantadas, apresente-os como oferta especial para o Senhor. 14 Assim, você separará os levitas do restante dos israelitas, e os levitas serão meus. 15 Depois disso, eles entrarão na tenda do encontro para realizar o trabalho deles, pois você os purificou e os apresentou como oferta especial.

16 "Dentre todos os israelitas, os levitas são reservados para mim. Tomei-os para mim em lugar de todos os filhos mais velhos dos israelitas; tomei os levitas como seus substitutos. 17 Pois todos os filhos mais velhos e todos os machos das primeiras crias dos animais em Israel são meus. Eu os separei para mim no dia em que feri mortalmente todos os filhos mais velhos dos egípcios e os machos das primeiras crias de seus animais. 18 Sim, tomei para mim os levitas em lugar de todos os filhos mais velhos de Israel. 19 E, dentre todos os israelitas, designei os levitas para Arão e seus filhos. Eles servirão na tenda do encontro em favor dos israelitas e oferecerão sacrifícios para fazer expiação pelo povo, de modo que nenhuma praga os atinja quando se aproximarem do santuário".

20 Assim, Moisés, Arão e toda a comunidade de Israel consagraram os levitas, seguindo todas as instruções que o Senhor deu a Moisés. 21 Os levitas se purificaram e lavaram as roupas, e Arão os apresentou ao Senhor como oferta especial. Em seguida, ofereceu um sacrifício e fez expiação por eles, a fim de purificá-los. 22 Depois disso, os levitas entraram na tenda do encontro para realizar suas tarefas como assistentes de Arão e seus filhos. Assim, fizeram tudo que Senhor havia ordenado a Moisés a respeito dos levitas.

23 O Senhor também disse a Moisés: 24 "Dê a seguinte instrução aos levitas. Começarão a servir na tenda do encontro aos 25 anos 25 e deixarão o serviço aos 50 anos. 26 Depois que deixarem o serviço, ajudarão seus colegas levitas no trabalho de cuidar da tenda do encontro, mas não realizarão mais as cerimônias. Assim você designará as funções dos levitas".

1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 "Speak to Aaron, and tell him, ‘When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lamp stand.’"

3 Aaron did so. He lit its lamps to light the area in front of the lamp stand, as Yahweh commanded Moses. 4 This was the workmanship of the lamp stand, beaten work of gold. From its base to its flowers, it was beaten work. He made the lamp stand according to the pattern which Yahweh had shown Moses.

5 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 6 "Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them. 7 You shall do this to them to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of cleansing on them, let them shave their whole bodies with a razor, let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves. 8 Then let them take a young bull and its meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and another young bull you shall take for a sin offering. 9 You shall present the Levites before the Tent of Meeting. You shall assemble the whole congregation of the children of Israel. 10 You shall present the Levites before Yahweh. The children of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites, 11 and Aaron shall offer the Levites before Yahweh for a wave offering on the behalf of the children of Israel, that it may be theirs to do the service of Yahweh.

12 "The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering to Yahweh, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 You shall set the Levites before Aaron and before his sons, and offer them as a wave offering to Yahweh. 14 Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.

15 "After that, the Levites shall go in to do the service of the Tent of Meeting. You shall cleanse them, and offer them as a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to me from among the children of Israel; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of all the children of Israel, I have taken them to me. 17 For all the firstborn among the children of Israel are mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for myself. 18 I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel. 19 I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel, so that there will be no plague among the children of Israel when the children of Israel come near to the sanctuary."

20 Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel did so to the Levites. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them. 21 The Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them for a wave offering before Yahweh and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 After that, the Levites went in to do their service in the Tent of Meeting before Aaron and before his sons: as Yahweh had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

23 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 24 "This is what is assigned to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait on the service in the work of the Tent of Meeting; 25 and from the age of fifty years they shall retire from doing the work, and shall serve no more, 26 but shall assist their brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to perform the duty, and shall perform no service. This is how you shall have the Levites do their duties."
