1 Por isso insisto solenemente, diante de Deus e Cristo Jesus, que há-de julgar os vivos e os mortos, quando vier outra vez para estabelecer o seu governo aqui na Terra:2 que anuncies a palavra de Deus; que insistas nessa pregação, não só nas ocasiões consagradas a isso mas também fora delas; que corrijas e repreendas, que encorajes, com toda a paciência, os que são fracos, dando-lhes o ensino de que necessitam.3 Porque há-de vir uma época em que as pessoas não hão-de querer mais ouvir a sã doutrina, e procurarão acumular à sua volta mestres doutores que lhes ensinarão apenas aquilo que vai de encontro aos seus desejos e que comunicam impressões agradáveis aos seus ouvidos.4 Recusando ouvir a verdade, voltarão a seguir tradições supersticiosas.5 Mas tu, mantém-te capaz de controlar em todas circunstâncias o teu próprio carácter, pronto a suportar as aflições, fazendo o trabalho de um evangelista. E é assim que cumprirás o cargo de que foste responsabilizado.6 Porque, no que me diz respeito, a minha vida já tem sido derramada como uma oferta a Deus; já está próximo o tempo da minha morte7 Combati o bom combate; acabei a carreira da minha vida; guardei a fé.8 Está já preparada por Deus a coroa de justa recompensa que o Senhor, justo juiz, me dará naquele dia que há-de vir. E não somente a mim, mas também a todos os que amarem a sua vinda.9 Procura vir ter comigo o mais depressa possível10 Porque Demas abandonou-me, pois nele o amor pelas coisas deste mundo foi mais forte, e partiu para Tessalónica; Crescente foi para a Galácia, e Tito para a Dalmácia.11 Só Lucas está comigo. Traz também Marcos contigo, pois ser-me-á muito útil no serviço de Deus.12 Quanto a Tíquico, mandei-o a Éfeso.13 Quando vieres traz a capa que deixei em Troas, em casa de Carpo, assim como os livros, mas especialmente os pergaminhos.14 Alexandre, o latoeiro, causou-me muitos males. O Senhor o castigará, segundo o que merece.15 E tu também tem cuidado com ele; foi alguém que sempre se opôs decididamente às nossas palavras.16 Na minha primeira defesa em tribunal, ninguém me apoiou; antes todos me desampararam. Que Deus não os castigue por isso.17 Mas o Senhor assistiu-me e deu-me forças para eu poder anunciar inteiramente a mensagem de Deus ali mesmo, de forma que toda aquela assistência de gentios pôde ouvir o evangelho. E assim o Senhor me livrou da boca do leão.18 Sim ele me livrará de todo o mal, e me guardará para o seu reino celestial. 1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.3 For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts will they multiply to themselves teachers, having itching ears;4 And they will turn away their ears from the truth, and will be turned to fables.5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them also that love his appearing.9 Do thy diligence to come shortly to me:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and hath departed to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.11 Luke only is with me.
