1 E vi na minha visão um monstro levantando-se do mar. Tinha sete cabeças e dez chifres, e em cada um destes uma coroa. Em cada cabeça estavam escritos nomes que eram insultos a Deus.2 Este monstro parecia um leopardo, mas tinha as patas como os ursos e focinho de leão. E o dragão deu-lhe o seu próprio poder, cedeu-lhe o seu trono e grande autoridade.3 E reparei que uma das cabeças do monstro tinha uma ferida que parecia mortal; mas afinal a ferida veio a sarar! O mundo inteiro se maravilhou com esse milagre e se pôs a seguir esse monstro.4 Todos adoraram o dragão por ter dado ao monstro o seu poder, assim como adoraram o próprio monstro, dizendo: Quem poderá igualar-se a ele e lutar contra ele?5 E foi concedido ao monstro o poder de dizer grandes injúrias contra o Senhor Deus. E pôde assim exercer a sua influência durante quarenta e dois meses.6 Todo esse tempo sempre que abria a boca era para dizer coisas ofensivas contra Deus, e para desprezar o seu nome, a sua morada celestial e todos os que vivem no céu.7 Foi-lhe igualmente dado poder para combater contra o povo de Deus, e para o vencer mesmo, assim como autoridade sobre os povos, raças e línguas em toda a Terra.8 E todas as pessoas que pertencem a este mundo adoraram o monstro - essas cujos nomes não estão escritos no livro da vida do Cordeiro, que foi sacrificado antes da fundação do mundo.9 Quem for capaz de ouvir, que ouça atentamente:10 O povo de Deus destinado às prisões será levado em cativeiro; os que são destinados à morte serão mortos. Mas não desanimem, porque é agora a vossa oportunidade de demonstrar a vossa perseverança e fé.11 Depois vi outro monstro, este agora subindo da terra, com dois chifres, semelhantes aos de um cordeiro, mas falava como o dragão.12 Este monstro exerce o mesmo poder que o primeiro cuja ferida mortal foi sarada, e fez com que todos os habitantes da Terra lhe prestassem culto.13 Fez igualmente milagres inacreditáveis tais como mandar descer fogo do céu à vista de toda a gente14 Por meio destas coisas espantosas que fez, sempre, aliás, na presença do primeiro monstro, conseguiu enganar toda a gente. E ordenou a todos os habitantes da Terra que fizessem uma estátua ao monstro que fora ferida de morte, mas que recuperara a vida15 E foi-lhe mesmo permitido que desse vida a esta estátua e que a fizesse falar, e que fizesse que fossem mortos todos os que não adorassem essa estátua do monstro.16 Conseguiu até obrigar toda a gente, de toda a condição social, ricos e pobres, fosse qual fosse a condição do seu trabalho, a ser marcado com um sinal na mão direita ou na testa,17 de forma a que ninguém pudesse fazer nada, nem comprar nem vender, se não tivesse essa marca, que consistia ou no nome do monstro ou no número de código do seu nome.18 Aqui é preciso muita sabedoria. Aqueles que têm capacidade que vejam se são capazes de decifrar esse código: esse número representa o nome de um homem, e é 666.

1 \13:1\and saw a beast rise out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.2 And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.4 And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast? who is able to make war with him?5 And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given to him to continue forty and two months.6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.7 And it was given to him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and languages, and nations.8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.9 If any man hath an ear, let him hear.10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon.12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and lived.15 And he had power to give life to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save him that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty six.
