1 Suplico-vos pois - eu, prisioneiro por causa de servir o Senhor - que se conduzam de uma maneira digna da chamada que receberam de Deus2 Sejam humildes, delicados para com os outros e pacientes, numa base de compreensão mútua e com uma afeição sincera.3 Procurem conservar entre vocês a unidade que o Espírito Santo produziu com laços de paz4 Somos todos um só corpo, e temos todos o mesmo Espírito e fomos todos chamados para um mesmo futuro glorioso5 Existe um só Senhor, uma só fé, um só baptismo.6 Temos um só Deus, que é Pai de todos nós, que está acima de todos e que vive em nós e através de nós.7 Contudo, ele deu a cada um de nós um dom especial de acordo com a generosidade de Cristo.9 Ora quando diz que ele subiu, isso significa que antes ele desceu das alturas até às profundidades da Terra.10 Mas também aquele que assim desceu, é quem subiu às partes celestiais para encher o universo com a sua presença.11 Foi ele quem deu estes dons à igreja: os apóstolos, os profetas, os evangelistas, os pastores e os ensinadores.,12 A responsabilidade deles é o aperfeiçoamento dos crentes para fazerem o trabalho de Deus e edificar a igreja, o corpo de Cristo,13 até que assim todos cheguemos à unidade na fé, e ao pleno conhecimento do Filho de Deus, atingindo a maturidade completa conforme o modelo da pessoa de Cristo!14 Então não seremos mais como crianças instáveis, variando com facilidade de ideias e de sentimentos, influenciados pelos ventos de doutrinas várias que nos empurram ora para um lado ora para o outro, ao sabor de pessoas sem escrúpulos que astuciosamente procuram arrastar as almas para o erro15 Em vez disso, seguindo a verdade em amor, que possamos crescer, em todos os aspectos da nossa vida, segundo Cristo, que é a cabeça da igreja.16 Sob a sua orientação, o corpo inteiro é perfeitamente ligado entre si. À medida que cada parte faz o seu trabalho específico, isso ajudará as outras partes a crescer, para que todo o corpo seja saudável e edificado em amor.17 Por isso quero avisar-vos, em nome do Senhor, que não andem mais como os que não conhecem Deus, que vivem num mundo de ilusões.18 Os seus entendimentos estão obscurecidos; a sua ignorância das coisas espirituais e a sua insensibilidade à voz divina os afastou da vida de Deus.19 Tendo feito calar a voz das suas consciências, entregaram-se a tudo o que é imoralidade, procurando, com avidez, satisfazer os seus desejos corruptos.20 Mas esse não é o caminho que Cristo vos ensinou!21 Se prestaram ouvidos à sua voz, sabem bem como em Jesus está a verdade, e nela vocês foram instruídos.-22 Vocês foram ensinados, quanto à forma de vida que levavam anteriormente, que se devem desfazer dessa velha natureza que vai apodrecendo na sua própria imoralidade, nas suas ilusões.23 E que o vosso entendimento se renove nas atitudes a tomar na vida.24 Devem revestir-se do novo homem que é criado por Deus e que se manifesta na verdadeira justiça e na santidade.25 Deixem a mentira e falem verdade uns com os outros, porque somos membros de um só corpo.26 Não pequem, deixando que a ira vos domine. Antes que o dia acabe, façam com que a vossa irritação tenha fim.27 Em nenhum caso dêem ocasião a que o Diabo encontre meio de vos fazer cair.28 Aquele que roubava ou explorava fraudulentamente, que pare com isso de uma vez. Que antes trabalhe, e que ganhe a sua vida pelos seus próprios meios, honestamente, de forma até a poder ajudar outros menos favorecidos.29 Não saia da vossa boca nenhuma palavra suja; que tudo o que for dito por vocês sirva de ajuda para o bem e encorajamento daqueles que vos ouvem.30 Não entristeçam o Espírito Santo de Deus, o qual vos marcou com um selo, como garantia da vossa libertação.31 Façam desaparecer do vosso meio todo o mau humor, assim como a cólera, o ódio, as discussões, tal como as injúrias e as revoltas rancorosas.32 Em vez disso sejam uns para com os outros amáveis e compreensivos, perdoando-se mutuamente, tal como Cristo também vos perdoou.

1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation by which ye are called,2 With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.7 But to every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.9 Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?10 He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body to the edifying of itself in love.17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.20 But ye have not so learned Christ;21 If indeed ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:22 That ye put off concerning the former manner of life the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts:23 And be renewed in the Spirit of your mind;24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:27 Neither give place to the devil.28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed to the day of redemption.31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil-speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:32 And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
