1 Depois disto, o Senhor escolheu outros setenta e dois discípulos e enviou-os à sua frente de dois em dois a todas as localidades, vilas e aldeias que tencionava visitar mais tarde.2 Foram estas as instruções que lhes deu: Roguem ao Senhor da seara que envie mais trabalhadores, porque a seara é vasta e os trabalhadores são poucos.3 Agora vão e lembrem-se de que vos envio como cordeiros para o meio de lobos. Não levem dinheiro convosco, nem saco, nem mesmo calçado de reserva. E não percam tempo a cumprimentar gente pelo caminho.5 Sempre que entrarem num lar, lancem-lhe a vossa bênção. Se for digno de bênção, esta ficará; se não, para vocês voltará. Quando entrarem numa localidade, não andem de casa em casa, antes fiquem numa só casa, comendo e bebendo do que vos puserem à frente. Porque digno é o trabalhador do seu salário.8 Se uma cidade vos receber, comam do que vos oferecerem, curem os enfermos e digam: 'O reino de Deus chegou até vocês'. Se, porém, uma terra vos rejeitar, saiam para as ruas e digam:11 'Limpamos dos nossos pés o pó desta povoação como sinal da vossa condenação. Nunca se esqueçam de que o reino de Deus chegou até vocês!'12 Mesmo a perversa Sodoma estará em melhores condições no dia do julgamento do que essa terra.13 Que horrores vos esperam, cidades de Corazim e Betsaida! Porque, se os milagres que vos fiz tivessem sido realizados nas cidades de Tiro e Sidom , o seu povo ter-se-ia sentado, há muito, em profundo arrependimento, vestindo pano de saco e deitando cinzas sobre a cabeça em sinal de remorso.14 Sim, Tiro e Sidom receberá menos castigo no dia do julgamento do que vocês.15 E tu, povo de Cafarnaum, que direi de ti? Serás tu levantado até ao céu? Com certeza que não, serás antes mergulhado no inferno.16 Depois disse aos discípulos: Quem vos ouve é a mim que ouve. E quem vos rejeitar é a mim que rejeita. E quem me rejeitar rejeita Deus, que me enviou.17 Quando os setenta e dois discípulos voltaram, cheios de alegria, contaram: Senhor, os próprios demónios nos obedecem quando nos servimos do teu nome.18 Sim, disse-lhes Jesus, eu próprio vi Satanás cair dos céus como um raio! Dei-vos autoridade sobre os poderes do inimigo, e para pisar serpentes e escorpiões. Nada vos fará mal. Todavia não se alegrem porque os demónios vos obedecem. Alegrem-se por os vossos nomes estarem registados nos céus.21 Então Jesus, cheio da alegria do Espírito Santo, disse: Eu te louvo, ó Pai, Senhor dos céus e da Terra, porque escondes estas coisas aos instruídos e aos sábios, e as revelas às criancinhas. Sim, obrigado, pai, pois foi assim que o quiseste.22 O meu Pai deu-me autoridade sobre todas as coisas, e ninguém conhece verdadeiramente o Filho a não ser o Pai, e ninguém conhece verdadeiramente o Pai a não ser o Filho, e aqueles a quem o Filho tiver por bem revelá-lo.23 Voltando-se para os discípulos, disse-lhes em particular: Como é grande o vosso privilégio por terem visto o que viram! Muitos profetas e reis desejaram ver o que vocês vêem e não o viram; ouvir o que vocês ouvem e não o ouviram!25 Certo dia, um perito na religião judaica quis pôr Jesus à prova fazendo-lhe esta pergunta: Mestre, que preciso eu fazer para ter a vida eterna? E Jesus: Que diz a lei sobre o assunto?27 Diz assim: 'Amarás o Senhor teu Deus com todo o teu coração, e com toda a tua alma, e com todas as tuas forças, e com todo o teu entendimento. E amarás o teu semelhante, tanto quanto a ti mesmo'.28 Está certo, respondeu-lhe Jesus. Faz isso e terás a vida eterna!29 O homem, querendo justificar-se, perguntou: E quem é o meu semelhante?30 Jesus respondeu-lhe com esta ilustração: Um judeu que viajava de Jerusalém para Jericó viu-se atacado por salteadores. Estes, depois de lhe tirarem todas as roupas e dinheiro, espancaram-no e deixaram-no como morto na berma da estrada.31 Por acaso, apareceu por ali um sacerdote que, ao ver o homem tombado, se afastou para o outro lado da estrada, e passou de largo.32 Um outro, que era ajudante do templo , fez o mesmo, deixando também o homem ali caído.33 Porém, surgiu um samaritano que, ao vê-lo, teve muita pena dele. Ajoelhando-se, o samaritano tratou-lhe as feridas com azeite e vinho e pôs-lhe ligaduras. Depois, colocando o homem sobre o seu jumento, foi caminhando ao lado até chegarem a uma hospedaria, onde cuidou dele durante a noite. No dia seguinte, entregou ao dono da hospedaria uma certa importância , recomendando-lhe que cuidasse do homem. 'Se a despesa for além disto36 Ora, qual destes três homens dirias tu que foi o semelhante da vítima dos salteadores? Ao que o homem respondeu:Foi aquele que mostrou compaixão por ele esus disse-lhe: É isso mesmo. Vai e faz o mesmo.38 A caminho de Jerusalém, Jesus e os discípulos chegaram a um sítio onde uma mulher chamada Marta os recebeu em casa. Maria, sua irmã, sentou-se no chão ao pé de Jesus, ouvindo o que ele dizia.40 Marta, porém, andava atarefada com muitos serviços, e, indo ter com Jesus, observou-lhe: Senhor, achas bem que minha irmã me deixe sozinha a fazer o trabalho todo? Diz-lhe que venha ajudar-me.41 Marta, Marta, como tu te deixas prender por tantas coisas! Há só uma que é necessária. Maria escolheu bem. Não a quero privar disso!

1 After these things, the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city, and place, whither he himself would come.2 Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.3 Go: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.4 Carry neither purse, nor sack, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.5 And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.8 And into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh to you.10 But into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same, and say,11 Even the very dust of your city which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding, be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh to you.12 But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.13 Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented sitting in sackcloth and ashes.14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell.16 He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through thy name.18 And he said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.19 Behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.22 All things are delivered to me by my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.23 And he turned himself to his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see.24 For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things which ye hear, and have not heard them.25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?26 He said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.28 And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.29 But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came were he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.35 And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said to him, Take care of him: and whatever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor to him that fell among the robbers?37 And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go, and do thou likewise.38 Now it came to pass, as they were going, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman, named Martha, received him into her house.39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.41 And Jesus answered, and said to her, Martha, Martha, thou art anxious, and troubled about many things:42 But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
