1 Jesus foi de novo à sinagoga e aí reparou num homem que tinha uma mão aleijada.2 Como era sábado, os inimigos de Jesus vigiavam-no de perto. Iria curar-lhe a mão? Se o fizesse, seria razão de o condenar.3 Jesus pediu ao homem que viesse e se pusesse de pé diante das pessoas que ali estavam.4 Então, voltando-se para os que o observavam, perguntou: Estará errado praticar obras de caridade num sábado? Será este um dia em que se deva fazer o mal? É dia para salvar vidas ou para as destruir? Mas não quiseram responder-lhe.5 Olhando indignado em torno, e ao mesmo tempo profundamente triste por causa dos seus corações duros, Jesus disse ao homem: Estende a mão. Ele assim fez. E logo a mão ficou curada!6 Os fariseus saíram e tiveram um encontro com os herodianos a fim de combinarem como haviam de o matar.7 Entretanto, Jesus e os discípulos foram para a beira-mar, seguidos de enorme multidão vinda de toda a Galileia, da Judeia, de Jerusalém, da Idumeia, do outro lado do rio Jordão, e até de lugares tão distantes como Tiro e Sidom. Porque a fama dos seus milagres tinha-se espalhado por toda a parte, e o povo vinha em massa para o ver com os seus próprios olhos.9 Jesus disse aos discípulos que tivessem um bote à mão, pronto para o recolher se a multidão na praia o apertasse, pois tinha feito muitas curas naquele dia e grande número de doentes se comprimia à sua volta, procurando tocar-lhe.11 E onde quer que os possuídos de demónios o vissem, caíam por terra na sua frente, clamando: És o Filho de Deus! Contudo, avisava-os em termos enérgicos para que não repetissem aquilo.13 Depois disto, Jesus subiu a uma montanha e chamou uns quantos que escolheu, convidando-os a subirem também, e a reunirem-se com ele. Eles assim fizeram.14 Nomeou então doze para serem sempre seus companheiros e saírem a pregar e a expulsar demónios.16 Assim se chamavam os doze que escolheu: Simão (a quem pôs o nome de Pedro); Tiago e João (filhos de Zebedeu, mas a quem Jesus chamou filhos do Trovão); André; Filipe; Bartolomeu; Mateus; Tomé; Tiago (filho de Alfeu); Tadeu; Simão (o zelote) ; e Judas Iscariotes (que viria a traí-lo).20 Quando Jesus voltou para a casa onde estava de passagem, o povo começou a juntar-se outra vez, e não tardou que ela ficasse tão cheia de gente que nem Jesus, nem os discípulos, tinham tempo para comer.21 Quando os seus familiares souberam do que estava a acontecer, tentaram levá-lo embora, e diziam: Está fora de si.22 Os mestres religiosos que tinham chegado de Jerusalém diziam, porém: Ele está mas é dominado por Satanás, rei dos demónios; por isso é que estes lhe obedecem.23 Jesus chamou então estes homens e perguntou-lhes em parábola: Como pode Satanás expulsar Satanás? Um reino dividido contra si mesmo cai por terra. Uma casa cheia de contenda destrói-se a si mesma. E se Satanás luta contra si próprio, como pode ele fazer seja o que for? Não teria subsistido. Assim o homem forte tem de ser amarrado antes da sua casa poder ser ocupada e da sua propriedade tomada.28 Declaro solenemente que qualquer pecado dos homens pode ser perdoado, incluindo a blasfémia. Mas a ofensa contra o Espírito Santo, essa não pode nunca ser perdoada. É um pecado que fica para sempre.30 Disse-lhes isto porque afirmavam que os seus milagres eram feitos pelo poder de Satanás.31 Entretanto, sua mãe e irmãos chegaram à casa cheia de gente, onde ensinava, e mandaram-lhe recado para que saísse e viesse falar-lhes. A tua mãe e irmãos estão lá fora e querem ver-te, disseram-lhe.33 Jesus respondeu: Quem é a minha mãe? Quem são os meus irmãos?34 E, olhando para os que o rodeavam, acrescentou: Estes é que são a minha mãe e os meus irmãos!+35 Todo aquele que faz a vontade de Deus é meu irmão, e minha irmã, e minha mãe.

1 And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there who had a withered hand.2 And they watched him, to see whether he would heal him on the sabbath; that they might accuse him.3 And he saith to the man who had the withered hand, Stand forth.4 And he saith to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? but they held their peace.5 And when he had looked around on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.6 And the Pharisees went forth, and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judea.8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came to him.9 And he spoke to his disciples, that a small boat should wait on him, because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.10 For he had healed many; so that they pressed upon him to touch him, as many as had diseases.11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.12 And he strictly charged them, that they should not make him known.13 And he goeth up upon a mountain, and calleth to him whom he would: and they came to him.14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out demons.16 And Simon he surnamed Peter.17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, (and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder,)18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Canaanite,19 And Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him: and they went into a house.20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem, said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the demons he casteth out demons.23 And he called them to him, and said to them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and seize his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will plunder his house.28 Verily I say to you, All sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and any blasphemies with which they shall blaspheme:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never hath forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and standing without, they sent to him, calling him.32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said to him, Behold, thy mother, and thy brethren without seek for thee.33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?34 And he looked around on them who sat about him, and said, Behold, my mother and my brethren!35 For whoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
