1 Portanto agora nenhuma condenação há para os que pertencem a Cristo Jesus. Porquanto o poder do Espírito doador de vida - por meio de Cristo Jesus - me libertou da lei do pecado e da morte.3 Na verdade, sendo que a lei moisaica nada podia fazer devido à fraqueza da nossa natureza, Deus, mandando o seu próprio Filho com um corpo humano semelhante ao nosso, destruiu o poder que o pecado tem sobre as nossas vidas4 Assim a rectidão da lei de Deus se manifesta em nós que nos deixamos conduzir pelo Espírito Santo e não nos colocamos na sujeição da velha natureza.5 Aqueles que se deixam levar pela sua natureza pecadora vivem apenas para dar prazer a si mesmos, mas aqueles que seguem o Espírito fazem o que agrada a Deus.-6 Seguir o Espírito leva à vida e à paz, mas seguir atrás da velha natureza conduz à morte,7 porque a velha natureza pecadora, em nós, é contra Deus. Nunca obedeceu às leis de Deus e nem pode fazê-lo8 É por isso que os que ainda estão sob o controlo da sua natureza pecadora nunca podem agradar a Deus.9 Mas vocês não são controlados pela vossa velha natureza, mas pelo Espírito, se é que o Espírito de Deus vive em vocês. E se alguém não tem na sua vida o Espírito de Cristo, não é de maneira nenhuma um cristão. E se Cristo vive em vocês, embora o vosso corpo esteja morto para o pecado, o vosso espírito vive porque Cristo vos perdoou. E se o Espírito de Deus, que levantou Jesus Cristo da morte, vive na vossa vida, ele vivificará o vosso corpo mortal pela acção desse mesmo Espírito Santo que vive em vocês.12 Assim, irmãos, não há razão para satisfazerem a vossa velha natureza pecadora fazendo o que ela vos pede. Porque se continuarem a segui-la, morrerão; mas se, pelo poder do Espírito, a rejeitarem, hão-de viver.14 Porque todos os filhos de Deus se deixam conduzir pelo Espírito de Deus.15 Por isso não devemos ser como escravos medrosos e servis, mas devemos comportarmo-nos como verdadeiros filhos de Deus, recebidos no seio da sua família e chamando-lhe realmente querido Pai. Porque o seu Santo Espírito é testemunha, no nosso entendimento, de que somos filhos de Deus. E sendo que somos seus filhos, havemos de participar dos seus tesouros, pois que tudo o que Deus dá a seu Filho Jesus nos pertence também. Contudo se é certo que participaremos da sua glória, também é certo que teremos de participar dos seus sofrimentos.18 Mas aquilo que somos chamados a sofrer agora nada é comparado com a glória que ele nos dará mais tarde. Porque toda a criação espera com ardente esperança por esse dia futuro em que Deus ressuscitará os seus filhos. Nesse dia, tudo aquilo a que o mundo ficou sujeito por causa do pecado desaparecerá, e todo o mundo à nossa volta participará da gloriosa liberdade que os filhos de Deus hão-de desfrutar em relação ao pecado.22 Porque sabemos que mesmo as coisas da natureza esperam esse tão grande acontecimento, como se estivesse com dores de parto. E até nós, cristãos, ainda que tenhamos em nós o Espírito Santo como um antegosto dessa glória futura, também como que gememos para ser libertados da dor e do sofrimento. Nós também esperamos ansiosamente por esse dia em que Deus nos concederá enfim todos os direitos como seus filhos, incluindo novos corpos.24 Nós somos salvos em esperança. E a esperança significa contar obter algo que ainda não temos. Uma pessoa que obteve já o que pretendia não necessita de ter esperança nessa coisa. Mas quando esperamos o que ainda não temos, esperamo-lo com paciência e confiança.26 Pela fé, o Espírito nos ajuda nas nossas fraquezas. Porque não sabemos o que devemos pedir, nem como pedir, mas o Espírito pede por nós, e com tal ardor que não há palavras que o possam exprimir. E o Pai, que conhece todos os corações, sabe na verdade o que o Espírito pretende ao interceder em nosso favor, em harmonia com a vontade de Deus.28 E sabemos que tudo o que nos acontece contribui para o nosso bem, nós que amamos Deus e nos encontramos dentro dos seus planos29 Porque desde o princípio de tudo Deus decidiu que aqueles que viessem até ele, e ele já sabia quem seria, se tornariam semelhantes ao seu Filho, a fim de que o seu Filho fosse o primeiro entre muitos irmãos. E, tendo-nos escolhido, chamou-nos para si; e quando viemos, respondendo à sua chamada, ele nos reconciliou consigo, concedendo-nos o direito à sua glória.31 Que poderemos nós comentar perante coisas tão maravilhosas? Se Deus está ao nosso lado, quem será contra nós? Se ele nem o seu próprio Filho poupou, antes o entregou por todos nós, não nos dará, com Cristo, tudo o mais que precisarmos?33 Quem ousará acusar-nos, a nós que Deus escolheu para si mesmo? Porque foi Deus mesmo quem nos perdoou34 Quem pois é que nos condenaria? Ninguém o poderia fazer visto que foi mesmo Cristo quem morreu e ressuscitou por nós, e se encontra sentado no mais honroso lugar junto de Deus, ali intercedendo em nosso favor.35 O que é que poderia interpor-se entre nós e o amor de Cristo? Seria a tribulação, ou a aflição, ou a perseguição ou a fome, ou a necessidade, ou o perigo, ou a força da violência? Ò37 Mas a nossa vitória é total no meio de todas essas coisas, e isso devido a Cristo, o qual nos amou a ponto de morrer por nós.38 Porque eu estou certo de que nem vida nem morte, nem anjos nem demónios, nem a actualidade ou o futuro, seja onde quer que nos encontremos, nas alturas ou em profundos abismos, nada nem ninguém nos poderá separar do amor que Deus nos deu em Jesus Cristo nosso Senhor.

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.2 For the law of the Spirit of life, in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death.3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:4 That the righteousness of the law may be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.5 For they that are according to the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh: but they that are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. Now if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.11 But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised Christ from the dead will also revive your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.13 For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.16 The Spirit itself testifieth with our spirit, that we are the children of God:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together.18 For I reckon, that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption, into the glorious liberty of the children of God.22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth, and travaileth in pain together until now:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.24 For we are saved by hope: But hope that is seen, is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?25 But if we hope for what we see not, then with patience we wait for it.26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints, according to the will of God.28 And we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first-born among many brethren.30 Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.31 What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?33 Who will lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, or rather that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.37 But in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us.38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,39 Nor hight, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
