1 Estas mensagens, da parte do Senhor, foram comunicadas ao profeta Zacarias (filho de Baraquias e neto de Ido), nos primeiros dias de Novembro , do segundo ano de reinado de Dario.2 O Senhor dos exércitos do céu zangou-se em extremo com vossos pais.3 Mas agora voltar-se-á a vosso favor novamente se se voltarem para ele.4 Não sejam como os vossos pais! Os primeiros profetas em vão insistiram com eles para que se arrependessem dos seus maus caminhos. Venham, tornem-se para mim, dizia o Senhor Deus. Mas não, não quiseram ouvir; não deram ouvidos.5 Os vossos antepassados e os profetas, há muito que já faleceram; mas lembrem-se da lição que eles tiveram que aprender - é que a palavra de Deus é persistente! Apanhou-os e castigou-os. Por fim arrependeram-se. Tivemos o que merecíamos, reconheceram eles. Deus fez-nos aquilo que nos avisou que faria.7 No dia quinze de Fevereiro - era ainda o segundo ano do reinado de Dario, o Senhor comunicou outra mensagem ao profeta Zacarias (filho de Baraquias e neto de Ido), numa visão dada durante a noite:8 Vi um homem sentado num cavalo vermelho, que estava parado entre murtas, num vale. Atrás dele estavam outros cavalos, vermelhos, castanhos e brancos, cada um com o seu condutor.9 Um anjo pôs-se ao meu lado e perguntei-lhe: Para que servem todos esses cavalos? Vai ser-te dito.10 Então o condutor do cavalo vermelho respondeu-me: O Senhor enviou-os para patrulharem a Terra.11 Nessa altura os outros cavaleiros dirigiram-se ao anjo do Senhor: Acabámos de percorrer a Terra inteira; por toda a parte há prosperidade e paz.12 Após ter ouvido isto, o anjo do Senhor fez esta oração: Ó Senhor dos exércitos celestiais, durante setenta anos a tua ira se derramou sobre Jerusalém e sobre as cidades de Judá. Quando mostrarás enfim a tua misericórdia sobre elas?13 O Senhor respondeu ao anjo que estava de pé ao meu lado, falando-lhe palavras de conforto e confiança.14 Então o anjo disse: Clama esta mensagem da parte do Senhor Deus dos exércitos celestiais: Pensas que não me preocupo com o que aconteceu em Judá e em Jerusalém? Sinto um grande zelo por elas.15 É grande a minha ira contra os povos pagãos que as rodeiam e que vivem desafogadamente. Foi apenas durante certo tempo que estive voltado contra o meu povo, mas outros os afligiram mais do que deviam.16 Por isso o Senhor declara: Voltei-me para Jerusalém cheio de bondade. O meu templo tornará a ser reconstruído, diz o Senhor dos exércitos celestiais, e o mesmo acontecerá com Jerusalém.17 Repete o que disseste: O Senhor dos exércitos celestiais declara que as povoações de Israel tornarão a transbordar de prosperidade. O Senhor confortará novamente Jerusalém, abençoá-la-á, e viverá nela.18 Então reparei em quatro chifres19 Que são estes?, perguntei ao anjo espondeu-me: Representam quatro forças mundiais que dispersaram Judá, Israel e Jerusalém.20 Depois o Senhor mostrou-me quatro ferreiros21 Que vieram estes homens fazer?, perguntei anjo respondeu: Vieram para derrubar as quatro forças que dispersaram Judá, tão terrivelmente; vieram para os triturar na bigorna e os lançarem para longe.

1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD to Zechariah, the son of Barachiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,2 The LORD hath been greatly displeased with your fathers.3 Therefore say thou to them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye to me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn to you, saith the LORD of hosts.4 Be ye not as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken to me, saith the LORD.5 Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.7 Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD to Zechariah, the son of Barachiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,8 I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.9 Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said to me, I will show thee what these are.10 And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.12 Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these seventy years.13 And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comforting words.14 So the angel that communed with me said to me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.15 And I am very greatly displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; I have returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.17 Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
