1 And when Balaam saw that it was good in the eyes of Yahweh to bless Israel, he went not as at other times to invoke enchantments,but set towards the desert, his face.2 So Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel, dwelling, according to his tribes,then came upon him the Spirit of God;3 and he took up his parable, and said,The oracle of Balaam, son of Beor, Yea the oracle of the man, of opened eye;4 The oracle of one hearing sayings of GOD, Who the sight of the Almighty, receiveth in vision, Who falleth down but hath unveiled eyes:5 How pleasing are thy tents, O Jacob,Thy habitations, O Israel:6 Like ravines extended, Like gardens by a river,Like aloe-trees Yahweh hath planted, Like cedars by waters:7 He poureth forth water from his buckets, And, his seed, is among many waters,And taller than Agag is his King, And exalted is his kingdom.8 GOD having brought him forth out of Egypt, The very horns of the buffalo, are his,He eateth up nations that assail him And the bones of them, he breaketh And the loins of him, he crusheth:9 He hath knelthath lain down, Like a strong lion, yea like a lioness, Who shall rouse him up? Such as bless thee are each one blessed, But, such, as curse thee, are each one cursed.10 Then kindled the anger of Balak against Balaam, and he smote together his hands,and Balak said unto BalaamTo revile my foes, I called thee, And lo! thou hast kept on blessing, these three times.11 Now, therefore, flee thou unto thy place,I said, I will, highly honour, thee; but lo! Yahweh hath kept thee back from honour.12 And Balaam said unto Balak,Was it not so that even unto thy messengers whom thou didst send unto m, I spake saying-13 Though Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, yet could I not go beyond the bidding of Yahweh, to, do good or ill, out of my own heart,what Yahweh shall speak, that, must I speak?14 Now, therefore, behold me! going to my own people,Come now! let me advise thee, what this people shall do unto thy people in the after-part of the days.15 So he took up his parable and said,The oracle of Balaam, son of Beer, Yea the oracle of the man, of opened eye;16 The oracle of one hearing sayings of GOD, And knowing the knowledge of the Most High,Who the sight of the Almighty, receiveth in vision, Who falleth down but hath unveiled eyes:17 I see One, who is not now, I observe One, who is not nigh,There hath marched forth a Star out of Jacob. And arisen a Sceptre out of Israel, That hath dishonoured the beard of Mesh, Yea the crown of the head of all the tumultuous;18 So Edom hath become a possession, Yea a possession is Seir to his foes,But, Israel, is doing valiantly;19 Yea One wieldeth dominion out of Jacob,Who hath destroyed the remnant out of the fortress.20 And, when he saw Amalek, he took up, his parable, and saidThe beginning of nations,Amalek, But his latter end is even to perish.21 And when he saw the Kenite, he took up hi parable, and said,Enduring thy dwelling-place, Set thou then in the crag, thy nest;22 Yet shall it be for destruction, O Kain,How long shall Assyria hold thee captive?23 And he took up his parable, and said,Alas who shall survive its fulfillment by GOD;24 When, ships, from the coast of the isles, And humble Assyria, and humble the Hebrew,And he too, is even to perish?25 Then Balaam arose, and went and returned unto his place,and, Balak also, went his way.

1 Vendo Balaão que bem parecia aos olhos do Senhor que abençoasse a Israel, não foi esta vez como dantes ao encontro dos encantamentos, mas pôs o seu rosto para o deserto. 2 E, levantando Balaão os olhos e vendo a Israel que habitava segundo as suas tribos, veio sobre ele o Espírito de Deus. 3 E alçou a sua parábola e disse: Fala Balaão, filho de Beor, e fala o homem de olhos abertos; 4 fala aquele que ouviu os ditos de Deus, o que vê a visão do Todo-Poderoso, caindo em êxtase e de olhos abertos: 5 Que boas são as tuas tendas, ó Jacó! Que boas as tuas moradas, ó Israel! 6 Como ribeiros se estendem, como jardins ao pé dos rios; como árvores de sândalo o Senhor as plantou, como cedros junto às águas. 7 De seus baldes manarão águas, e a sua semente estará em muitas águas; e o seu rei se exalçará mais do que Agague, e o seu reino será levantado. 8 Deus o tirou do Egito; as suas forças são como as do unicórnio; consumirá as nações, seus inimigos, e quebrará seus ossos, e com as suas setas os atravessará. 9 Encurvou-se, deitou-se como leão e como leoa; quem o despertará? Benditos os que te abençoarem, e malditos os que te amaldiçoarem.

10 Então, a ira de Balaque se acendeu contra Balaão, e bateu ele as suas palmas; e Balaque disse a Balaão: Para amaldiçoar os meus inimigos te tenho chamado; porém agora já três vezes os abençoaste inteiramente. 11 Agora, pois, foge para o teu lugar; eu tinha dito que te honraria grandemente; mas eis que o Senhor te privou desta honra. 12 Então, Balaão disse a Balaque: Não falei eu também aos teus mensageiros, que me enviaste, dizendo: 13 Ainda que Balaque me desse a sua casa cheia de prata e ouro, não posso traspassar o mandado do Senhor, fazendo bem ou mal de meu próprio coração; o que o Senhor falar, isso falarei eu. 14 Agora, pois, eis que me vou ao meu povo; vem, avisar-te-ei do que este povo fará ao teu povo nos últimos dias.

15 Então, alçou a sua parábola e disse: Fala Balaão, filho de Beor, e fala o homem de olhos abertos; 16 fala aquele que ouviu os ditos de Deus e o que sabe a ciência do Altíssimo; o que viu a visão do Todo-Poderoso, caído em êxtase e de olhos abertos: 17 Vê-lo-ei, mas não agora; contemplá-lo-ei, mas não de perto; uma estrela procederá de Jacó, e um cetro subirá de Israel, que ferirá os termos dos moabitas e destruirá todos os filhos de Sete. 18 E Edom será uma possessão, e Seir também será uma possessão hereditária para os seus inimigos; pois Israel fará proezas. 19 E dominará um de Jacó e matará os que restam das cidades. 20 E, vendo os amalequitas, alçou a sua parábola e disse: Amaleque é o primeiro das nações; porém o seu fim será para perdição. 21 E, vendo os queneus, alçou a sua parábola e disse: Firme está a tua habitação, e puseste o teu ninho na penha. 22 Todavia, o queneu será consumido, até que Assur te leve por prisioneiro. 23 E, alçando ainda a sua parábola, disse: Ai, quem viverá, quando Deus fizer isto? 24 E as naus das costas de Quitim afligirão a Assur; também afligirão a Héber; e também ele será para perdição.

25 Então, Balaão levantou-se, e foi-se, e voltou ao seu lugar, e também Balaque se foi pelo seu caminho.
