1 Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say, as with a voice of thunder, "Come!"2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and its rider had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!"4 And out came another horse, bright red; its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that men should slay one another; and he was given a great sword.5 When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" And I saw, and behold, a black horse, and its rider had a balance in his hand;6 and I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not harm oil and wine!"7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"8 And I saw, and behold, a pale horse, and its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him; and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne;10 they cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before thou wilt judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell upon the earth?"11 Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.12 When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood,13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale;14 the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.15 Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the generals and the rich and the strong, and every one, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains,16 calling to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand before it?"

1 Então vi o Cordeiro quebrar o primeiro dos sete selos e ouvi um dos quatro seres vivos dizer com voz forte como o barulho de um trovão:

— Venha!

2 Olhei e vi um cavalo branco. O seu cavaleiro tinha um arco, e lhe deram uma coroa de rei. E ele saiu vencendo e conquistando.

3 Depois o Cordeiro quebrou o segundo selo. E ouvi o segundo ser vivo dizer:

— Venha!

4 Aí saiu outro cavalo, que era vermelho. O seu cavaleiro recebeu o poder de trazer a guerra ao mundo a fim de que as pessoas matassem umas às outras. E ele recebeu uma grande espada.

5 Então o Cordeiro quebrou o terceiro selo. E ouvi o terceiro ser vivo dizer:

— Venha!

Olhei e vi um cavalo preto. O seu cavaleiro tinha uma balança na mão. 6 Ouvi o que parecia ser uma voz, que vinha do meio dos quatro seres vivos e dizia:

— Meio quilo de trigo custa o que vocês ganham num dia inteiro de trabalho; e um quilo e meio de cevada custa a mesma coisa. E não misturem água no vinho, nem falsifiquem o azeite.

7 Depois o Cordeiro quebrou o quarto selo. E ouvi o quarto ser vivo dizer:

— Venha!

8 Olhei e vi um cavalo amarelo. O seu cavaleiro se chamava Morte, e o mundo dos mortos o seguia. Estes receberam poder sobre a quarta parte da terra, para matar por meio de guerras, fome, doenças e animais selvagens.

9 Então o Cordeiro quebrou o quinto selo. E vi debaixo do altar as almas dos que tinham sido mortos porque haviam anunciado a mensagem de Deus e tinham sido fiéis no seu testemunho. 10 Eles gritavam com voz bem forte:

— Ó Todo-Poderoso, santo e verdadeiro! Quando julgarás e condenarás os que na terra nos mataram?

11 Cada um deles recebeu uma roupa branca. E foi dito a eles que descansassem um pouco mais, até que se completasse o número dos seus companheiros no trabalho de Cristo, que eram seus irmãos e que iam ser mortos como eles tinham sido.

12 Em seguida vi o Cordeiro quebrar o sexto selo. Houve um violento terremoto, o sol se tornou negro como uma roupa de luto, e a lua ficou toda vermelha como sangue. 13 As estrelas caíram do céu sobre a terra, como os figos verdes caem da figueira sacudida por um vento forte. 14 O céu desapareceu como um rolo de papel que se enrola de novo, e todos os montes e ilhas foram tirados dos seus lugares. 15 Então os reis do mundo inteiro, os governadores e os chefes militares, os ricos e os poderosos e todas as outras pessoas, escravas ou livres, se esconderam nas cavernas e debaixo das rochas das montanhas. 16 E gritavam para os montes e para as rochas:

— Caiam sobre nós e nos escondam dos olhos daquele que está sentado no trono e nos protejam da ira do Cordeiro! 17 Pois já chegou o grande dia da ira deles, e quem poderá aguentá-la?
