1 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan,2 all Naph'tali, the land of E'phraim and Manas'seh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea,3 the Negeb, and the Plain, that is, the valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, as far as Zo'ar.4 And the LORD said to him, "This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, `I will give it to your descendants.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there."5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD,6 and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-pe'or; but no man knows the place of his burial to this day.7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died; his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.8 And the people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him; so the people of Israel obeyed him, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses.10 And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,11 none like him for all the signs and the wonders which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land,12 and for all the mighty power and all the great and terrible deeds which Moses wrought in the sight of all Israel.

1 Moisés foi das planícies de Moabe até o monte Nebo e subiu ao alto do monte Pisga, na altura de Jericó, que ficava no outro lado do rio. Dali o Senhor Deus lhe mostrou toda a terra de Canaã, isto é, o território de Gileade até a cidade de Dã, no Norte; 2 o território das tribos de Naftali, Efraim e Manassés do Oeste; o território de Judá até o mar Mediterrâneo, no Oeste; 3 a região sul e a planície que vai de Zoar até Jericó, a cidade das palmeiras. 4 E Deus disse a Moisés:

— Eu jurei a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó que daria esta terra aos descendentes deles. Estou deixando que você a veja com os seus próprios olhos, mas você não vai entrar nela.

5 Assim Moisés, servo do Senhor Deus, morreu na terra de Moabe, conforme o Senhor tinha dito. 6 Deus o sepultou ali, num vale que fica em frente da cidade de Bete-Peor. Até hoje ninguém sabe onde ele foi sepultado. 7 Moisés tinha cento e vinte anos quando morreu, mas ainda enxergava bem e tinha boa saúde. 8 Ali nas planícies de Moabe os israelitas choraram a morte de Moisés trinta dias, até terminar o tempo de luto.

9 Moisés havia escolhido Josué, filho de Num, para ficar no seu lugar. Ele pôs as mãos sobre a cabeça de Josué, que assim ficou cheio de sabedoria. Os israelitas obedeceram a Josué e cumpriram todas as leis que o Senhor Deus lhes tinha dado por meio de Moisés.

10 Nunca mais apareceu em Israel um profeta como Moisés, com quem o Senhor falava face a face. 11 Nunca houve ninguém que fizesse maravilhas e milagres como aqueles que Moisés, obedecendo à ordem do Senhor, fez no Egito contra o seu rei, os seus oficiais e todo o seu povo. 12 Nunca houve outro profeta que fizesse os milagres e as coisas espantosas que Moisés fez com grande poder na presença do povo de Israel.
