1 "Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?3 And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.4 And you know the way where I am going."5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; henceforth you know him and have seen him."8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied."9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, `Show us the Father'?10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;14 if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever,17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.18 "I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you.19 Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live also.20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.21 He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?"23 Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.24 He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.25 "These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you.26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.28 You heard me say to you, `I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe.30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me;31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go hence.

1 Jesus disse:

— Não fiquem aflitos. Creiam em Deus e creiam também em mim. 2 Na casa do meu Pai há muitos quartos, e eu vou preparar um lugar para vocês. Se não fosse assim, eu já lhes teria dito. 3 E, depois que eu for e preparar um lugar para vocês, voltarei e os levarei comigo para que onde eu estiver vocês estejam também. 4 E vocês conhecem o caminho para o lugar aonde eu vou.

5 Então Tomé perguntou:

— Senhor, nós não sabemos aonde é que o senhor vai. Como podemos saber o caminho?

6 Jesus respondeu:

— Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida; ninguém pode chegar até o Pai a não ser por mim. 7 Agora que vocês me conhecem, conhecerão também o meu Pai. E desde agora vocês o conhecem e o têm visto.

8 Filipe disse a Jesus:

— Senhor, mostre-nos o Pai, e assim não precisaremos de mais nada.

9 Jesus respondeu:

— Faz tanto tempo que estou com vocês, Filipe, e você ainda não me conhece? Quem me vê vê também o Pai. Por que é que você diz: "Mostre-nos o Pai"? 10 Será que você não crê que eu estou no Pai e que o Pai está em mim?

Então Jesus disse aos discípulos:

— O que eu digo a vocês não digo em meu próprio nome; o Pai, que está em mim, é quem faz o seu trabalho. 11 Creiam no que lhes digo: eu estou no Pai e o Pai está em mim. Se vocês não creem por causa das minhas palavras, creiam pelo menos por causa das coisas que eu faço. 12 Eu afirmo a vocês que isto é verdade: quem crê em mim fará as coisas que eu faço e até maiores do que estas, pois eu vou para o meu Pai. 13 E tudo o que vocês pedirem em meu nome eu farei, a fim de que o Filho revele a natureza gloriosa do Pai. 14 Eu farei qualquer coisa que vocês me pedirem em meu nome.

15 Jesus continuou:

— Se vocês me amam, obedeçam aos meus mandamentos. 16 Eu pedirei ao Pai, e ele lhes dará outro Auxiliador, o Espírito da verdade, para ficar com vocês para sempre. 17 O mundo não pode receber esse Espírito porque não o pode ver, nem conhecer. Mas vocês o conhecem porque ele está com vocês e viverá em vocês.

18 — Não vou deixá-los abandonados, mas voltarei para ficar com vocês. 19 Daqui a pouco o mundo não me verá mais, mas vocês me verão. E, porque eu vivo, vocês também viverão. 20 Quando chegar aquele dia, vocês ficarão sabendo que eu estou no meu Pai e que vocês estão em mim, assim como eu estou em vocês.

21 — A pessoa que aceita e obedece aos meus mandamentos prova que me ama. E a pessoa que me ama será amada pelo meu Pai, e eu também a amarei e lhe mostrarei quem sou.

22 Então Judas, não o Judas Iscariotes, perguntou:

— Senhor, como será possível que o senhor mostre somente a nós e não ao mundo quem o senhor é?

23 Jesus respondeu:

— A pessoa que me ama obedecerá à minha mensagem, e o meu Pai a amará. E o meu Pai e eu viremos viver com ela. 24 A pessoa que não me ama não obedece à minha mensagem. E a mensagem que vocês estão escutando não é minha, mas do Pai, que me enviou.

25 — Tenho dito isso enquanto estou com vocês. 26 Mas o Auxiliador, o Espírito Santo, que o Pai vai enviar em meu nome, ensinará a vocês todas as coisas e fará com que lembrem de tudo o que eu disse a vocês.

27 — Deixo com vocês a paz. É a minha paz que eu lhes dou; não lhes dou a paz como o mundo a dá. Não fiquem aflitos, nem tenham medo. 28 Vocês ouviram o que eu disse: "Eu vou, mas voltarei para ficar com vocês." Se vocês me amassem, ficariam alegres, sabendo que vou para o Pai, pois o Pai é mais poderoso do que eu. 29 Digo isso agora, antes que essas coisas aconteçam, para que, quando acontecerem, vocês creiam. 30 Não posso continuar a falar com vocês por muito tempo, pois está chegando aquele que manda neste mundo. Ele não tem poder sobre mim; 31 mas o mundo precisa saber que eu amo o Pai e que, por isso, faço tudo o que ele manda.

— Levantem-se, vamos sair daqui!
