1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Mag'dalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.2 So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him."3 Peter then came out with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb.4 They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first;5 and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying,7 and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself.8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;9 for as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb;12 and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.13 They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him."14 Saying this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus.15 Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rab-bo'ni!" (which means Teacher).17 Jesus said to her, "Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."18 Mary Mag'dalene went and said to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you."22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe."26 Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you."27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing."28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

1 Domingo bem cedo, quando ainda estava escuro, Maria Madalena foi até o túmulo e viu que a pedra que tapava a entrada tinha sido tirada. 2 Então foi correndo até o lugar onde estavam Simão Pedro e outro discípulo, aquele que Jesus amava, e disse:

— Tiraram o Senhor Jesus do túmulo, e não sabemos onde o puseram!

3 Então Pedro e o outro discípulo foram até o túmulo. 4 Os dois saíram correndo juntos, mas o outro correu mais depressa do que Pedro e chegou primeiro. 5 Ele se abaixou para olhar lá dentro e viu os lençóis de linho; porém não entrou no túmulo. 6 Mas Pedro, que chegou logo depois, entrou. Ele também viu os lençóis colocados ali 7 e a faixa que tinham posto em volta da cabeça de Jesus. A faixa não estava junto com os lençóis, mas estava enrolada ali ao lado. 8 Aí o outro discípulo, que havia chegado primeiro, também entrou no túmulo. Ele viu e creu. 9 (Eles ainda não tinham entendido as Escrituras Sagradas, que dizem que era preciso que Jesus ressuscitasse.) 10 E os dois voltaram para casa.

11 Maria Madalena tinha ficado perto da entrada do túmulo, chorando. Enquanto chorava, ela se abaixou, olhou para dentro 12 e viu dois anjos vestidos de branco, sentados onde tinha sido posto o corpo de Jesus. Um estava na cabeceira, e o outro, nos pés. 13 Os anjos perguntaram:

— Mulher, por que você está chorando?

Ela respondeu:

— Levaram embora o meu Senhor, e eu não sei onde o puseram!

14 Depois de dizer isso, ela virou para trás e viu Jesus ali de pé, mas não o reconheceu. 15 Então Jesus perguntou:

— Mulher, por que você está chorando? Quem é que você está procurando?

Ela pensou que ele era o jardineiro e por isso respondeu:

— Se o senhor o tirou daqui, diga onde o colocou, e eu irei buscá-lo.

16 — Maria! — disse Jesus.

Ela virou e respondeu em hebraico:

— "Rabôni!" (Esta palavra quer dizer "Mestre".)

17 Jesus disse:

— Não me segure, pois ainda não subi para o meu Pai. Vá se encontrar com os meus irmãos e diga a eles que eu vou subir para aquele que é o meu Pai e o Pai deles, o meu Deus e o Deus deles.

18 Então Maria Madalena foi e disse aos discípulos de Jesus:

— Eu vi o Senhor!

E contou o que Jesus lhe tinha dito.

19 Naquele mesmo domingo, à tarde, os discípulos de Jesus estavam reunidos de portas trancadas, com medo dos líderes judeus. Então Jesus chegou, ficou no meio deles e disse:

— Que a paz esteja com vocês!

20 Em seguida lhes mostrou as suas mãos e o seu lado. E eles ficaram muito alegres ao verem o Senhor. 21 Então Jesus disse de novo:

— Que a paz esteja com vocês! Assim como o Pai me enviou, eu também envio vocês.

22 Depois soprou sobre eles e disse:

— Recebam o Espírito Santo. 23 Se vocês perdoarem os pecados de alguém, esses pecados são perdoados; mas, se não perdoarem, eles não são perdoados.

24 Acontece que Tomé, um dos discípulos, que era chamado de "o Gêmeo", não estava com eles quando Jesus chegou. 25 Então os outros discípulos disseram a Tomé:

— Nós vimos o Senhor!

Ele respondeu:

— Se eu não vir o sinal dos pregos nas mãos dele, e não tocar ali com o meu dedo, e também se não puser a minha mão no lado dele, não vou crer!

26 Uma semana depois, os discípulos de Jesus estavam outra vez reunidos ali com as portas trancadas, e Tomé estava com eles. Jesus chegou, ficou no meio deles e disse:

— Que a paz esteja com vocês!

27 Em seguida disse a Tomé:

— Veja as minhas mãos e ponha o seu dedo nelas. Estenda a mão e ponha no meu lado. Pare de duvidar e creia!

28 Então Tomé exclamou:

— Meu Senhor e meu Deus!

29 — Você creu porque me viu? — disse Jesus. — Felizes são os que não viram, mas assim mesmo creram!

30 Jesus fez diante dos discípulos muitos outros milagres que não estão escritos neste livro. 31 Mas estes foram escritos para que vocês creiam que Jesus é o Messias, o Filho de Deus. E para que, crendo, tenham vida por meio dele.
