1 Além disto, irmãos, vos fazemos conhecer a graça de Deus, que foi dada nas igrejas da Macedônia,2 como em grande prova de tribulação, a abundância do seu gozo e a sua extrema pobreza abundaram nas riquezas da sua generosidade;3 porque testifico que segundo as suas forças e além das suas forças contribuíram espontaneamente,4 pedindo-nos com muitas súplicas o favor de se associarem neste serviço pelos santos.5 Eles não só fizeram como esperávamos, mas deram-se a si mesmos primeiro ao Senhor, depois a nós pela vontade de Deus;6 de maneira que exortamos a Tito a que, como antes ele tinha começado, assim também completasse em vós ainda esta graça.7 Mas como abundais em tudo, em fé, em palavra, em ciência, em toda a solicitude, em nosso amor para convosco, vede que assim abundeis também nesta graça.8 Não o digo como mandamento, mas para provar, mediante o zelo de outros, a sinceridade também da vossa caridade;9 pois conheceis a graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, sendo rico, se tornou pobre por amor de vós, para que pela sua pobreza fôsseis vós enriquecidos.10 Nisto dou o meu parecer: pois é para o proveito de vós que primeiro começastes desde o ano passado, não só a fazer, mas também a querer.11 Agora, porém, acabai a obra, para que, como houve prontidão no querer, assim também haja o cumprir segundo as vossas posses.12 Se existe a prontidão, é aceitável segundo o que alguém tem, e não segundo o que não tem.13 Pois digo isto, não para que haja alívio para outros e aperto para vós;14 mas para que haja igualdade, suprindo a vossa abundância no tempo presente a sua deficiência, para que também a sua abundância venha a suprir a vossa deficiência, a fim de que haja igualdade,15 como está escrito: O que muito colheu, não teve sobra; e o que pouco colheu, não teve falta.16 Mas graças a Deus, que pôs no coração de Tito a mesma solicitude por vós;17 porque, com efeito, aceitou a nossa exortação, porém sendo mais zeloso, partiu para vós por sua própria vontade.18 Enviamos juntamente com ele o irmão, cujo louvor no Evangelho se tem espalhado em todas as igrejas,19 e não somente isto, mas também foi pelas igrejas eleito nosso companheiro de viagem no tocante a esta graça administrada por nós para a própria glória do Senhor, e para mostrar a nossa boa vontade;20 evitando que alguém nos censure a propósito desta abundância que por nós é ministrada;21 pois cuidamos de prover coisas honrosas, não só perante o Senhor, como também perante os homens.22 Enviamos com eles um nosso irmão que em muitas coisas temos provado muitas vezes ser zeloso, mas agora muito mais zeloso pela muita confiança que tem em vós.23 Se alguém perguntar quanto a Tito, ele é meu companheiro e cooperador para convosco; quanto aos nossos irmãos, são mensageiros das igrejas, glória de Cristo.24 Dai-lhes, portanto, diante das igrejas prova do vosso amor e da nossa glória a vosso respeito.

1 We want you to know, brothers, about God's grace that was given to the churches of Macedonia.2 In spite of a terrible ordeal of suffering, their abundant joy, along with their deep poverty, has resulted in the abundance of their generosity.3 I can testify that by their own free will they have given to the utmost of their ability, yes, even beyond their ability.4 They begged us earnestly for the privilege of participating in this ministry to the saints.5 We did not expect that! They gave themselves to the Lord first and then to us, since this was God's will.6 So we urged Titus to finish this work of kindness among you in the same way that he had started it.7 Indeed, the more your faith, speech, knowledge, enthusiasm, and love for us increase, the more we want you to be rich in this work of kindness.8 I am not commanding you but testing the genuineness of your love by the enthusiasm of others.9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Although he was rich, for your sakes he became poor, so that you, through his poverty, might become rich.10 I am giving you my opinion on this matter because it will be helpful to you. Last year you were not only willing to do something, but had already started to do it.11 Now finish doing it, so that your eagerness to undertake it may be matched by its completion, in keeping with what you have.12 For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you do not have.13 Not that others should have relief while you have hardship. Rather, it is a question of fairness.14 At the present time, your surplus fills their need, so that their surplus may fill your need. In this way things are fair.15 As it is written, "The person who had much did not have too much,and the person who had little did not have too little."16 But thanks be to God, who placed in the heart of Titus the same dedication to you that I have.17 He welcomed my request and eagerly went to visit you by his own free will.18 With him we have sent the brother who is praised in all the churches for spreading the gospel.19 More than that, he has also been selected by the churches to travel with us while we are administering this work of kindness for the glory of the Lord and as evidence of our eagerness to help.20 We are trying to avoid any criticism of the way we are administering this great undertaking.21 We intend to do what is right, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of people.22 We have also sent with them our brother whom we have often tested in many ways and found to be dedicated. At present he is more dedicated than ever because he has so much confidence in you.23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker on your behalf. Our brothers, emissaries from the churches, are the glory of Christ.24 Therefore, give to the churches a demonstration of your love and a reason for why we boast about you.
