1 Não te regozijes com júbilo, ó Israel, como os povos; porque pela fornicação abandonaste o teu Deus, amaste recompensa sobre todas as eiras de trigo.2 A eira e o lagar não os sustentarão e o mosto lhe faltará.3 Não habitarão na terra de Jeová; mas Efraim voltará para o Egito, e na Assíria comerão viandas imundas.4 Não derramarão libações de vinho a Jeová, nem elas lhe serão agradáveis. Os seus sacrifícios lhes serão como o pão de pranteadores; todos os que comerem dele, ficarão contaminados. Pois o seu pão servirá para lhes matar a fome; não entrará na casa de Jeová.5 Que fareis no dia de assembléia solene, e no dia da festa de Jeová?6 Pois eis que se retiraram da destruição, todavia o Egito os congregará, Mênfis os sepultará: quanto a seus objetos desejáveis de prata, as urtigas os possuirão; espinhos crescerão nas suas tendas.7 São vindos os dias da visitação, são vindos os dias da retribuição; Israel o saberá; o profeta é louco, o homem de espírito é furioso, por causa da multidão da tua iniqüidade e porque é grande a inimizade.8 Efraim era um vigia para com o meu Deus; quanto ao profeta, o laço do passarinheiro acha-se em todos os seus caminhos, e a inimizade na casa do seu Deus.9 Corromperam-se profundamente, como nos dias de Gibeá; ele se lembrará das iniqüidades deles, e visitará sobre eles os pecados.10 Achei a Israel como uvas no deserto; vi vossos pais como a fruta temporã da figueira que dá pela primeira vez; mas eles foram a Baal-Peor, e se consagraram a essa coisa vergonhosa, e se tornaram abomináveis como aquilo que amaram.11 Quanto a Efraim, a sua glória voará embora como uma ave; não haverá nascimento, nem mulher grávida, nem concepção.12 Ainda que criem os seus filhos, todavia deles os privarei, para que não fique nem um só homem; ai deles quando eu me apartar deles!13 Efraim, assim como vi a Tiro, está plantado num lugar aprazível; mas Efraim levará fora seus filhos ao que lhes há de tirar a vida.14 Dá-lhes, Jeová: que lhes darás? dá-lhes uma madre que aborte e seios secos.15 Toda a sua malícia acha-se em Gilgal; pois ali é que lhes concebi ódio; por causa da malícia dos seus feitos expulsá-los-ei da minha casa. Não os amarei; todos os seus príncipes são rebeldes.16 Ferido está Efraim, seca está a sua raiz, não darão fruto; embora produzam, todavia matarei o fruto querido do seu ventre.17 O meu Deus os rejeitará, porque não no ouviram; e andarão errantes entre as nações.

1 »O Israel, do not rejoice. Do not celebrate as pagan nations do. You have been unfaithful to your God. You have sold sex on every threshing floor.2 »There will not be enough grain to feed people. There will not be enough wine to go around.3 »The people of Ephraim will not stay in Jehovah’s land. They will return to Egypt and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.4 »They will not pour wine offerings to Jehovah. Their food will only satisfy their hunger. All who eat it will be defiled. It will not be brought as an offering to Jehovah’s Temple.5 »What will they do on the day of an appointed festival or on Jehovah’s festival days?6 »Even if they escape without being destroyed, Egypt will capture them and Memphis will bury them. Weeds will grow over their silver treasures. Thorns will grow over their tents.7 The time for them to be punished will come. The time for them to pay for their sins will come. When this happens, Israel will know it. They think that prophets are fools and that spiritual people are crazy. They have sinned a lot, and are filled with hostility.«8 Prophets are God’s watchmen over Ephraim. Yet, traps are set on every prophet’s path and people are hostile in the Temple of their God.9 They have gone deep in depravity as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish their sins.10 »I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your forefathers as the earliest fruit on the fig tree in its first season. They came to Baal-peor and devoted themselves to shame. They became as detestable as that which they loved.11 »As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird: No birth, no pregnancy and no conception!12 »Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them until no man is left. Yes, woe to them even when I depart from them!13 »I have seen Ephraim planted in a pleasant meadow like Tyre. But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.«14 Give them, O Jehovah what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.15 »All Ephraim's wickedness began in Gilgal. I hated the people there. I will force them out of my Temple because of their wickedness. I will not love them anymore. All their officials are rebellious.16 »The people of Ephraim are like sick plants. Their roots are dried up. They have no fruit. Even if they were to have children, I would kill their dear children.«17 My God will reject them because they refused to listen to him. They will wander among the nations.
