Na observância da Lei não há lugar para Cristo

Portanto, *vd.1Co 16.13ficai firmes e não vos sujeiteis, de novo, a um *At 15.10; vd.Gl 2.4jugo de escravidão. 2 Eis que *vd.2Co 10.1eu, Paulo, vos declaro que, se vos *vd.At 15.1;Gl 5.3,6,11circuncidardes, Cristo de nada vos aproveitará. 3 De novo, *cp.Lc 16.28testifico a todo homem que se circuncida que está obrigado a *Rm 2.25guardar a Lei toda. 4 Estais já separados de Cristo, vós que vos justificais pela Lei; *2Pe 3.17;Hb 12.15decaístes da graça. 5 Nós, por meio do Espírito, pela fé, *vd.Rm 8.23;1Co 1.7aguardamos a esperança da justiça. 6 Pois, *vd.Gl 3.26em Cristo Jesus, *vd.1Co 7.19;Gl 6.15nem a circuncisão vale coisa alguma, nem a incircuncisão; mas *cp.Cl 1.4s.;1Ts 1.3;Tg 2.18,20,22a fé que opera por amor. 7 *vd.Gl 2.2Corríeis bem; quem vos impediu de obedecer à verdade? 8 Essa persuasão não vem *vd.Rm 8.28;Gl 1.6daquele que vos chama. 9 *vd.1Co 5.6Um pouco de fermento leveda a massa inteira. 10 *vd.2Co 2.3Eu confio de vós, no Senhor, que *cp.Fp 3.15;Gl 5.7não tereis outro modo de pensar; mas aquele que *vd.Gl 1.7; cp.Gl 5.12vos perturba, seja quem for, levará sobre si a condenação. 11 Mas, quanto a mim, irmãos, se ainda estou pregando a circuncisão, por que ainda sou *cp.Gl 4.29;6.12perseguido? Logo, está desfeita *1Co 1.23;Rm 9.33a ofensa da cruz. 12 Oxalá que *Dt 23.1fossem além da circuncisão *Gl 5.10; cp.Gl 2.4os que vos inquietam.

A liberdade é limitada pelo amor

13 Vós, irmãos, fostes chamados à *vd.Gl 5.1liberdade; porém *vd.1Co 8.9;1Pe 2.16não useis da liberdade para dar ocasião à carne, mas, num espírito de amor, *vd.1Co 9.19;Ef 5.21sede servos uns dos outros. 14 Pois *Mt 7.12—22.40;Rm 13.8,10; cp.Gl 6.2toda a Lei se resume em um só preceito, a saber:

*cp.Mt 19.19;Lv 19.18;Jo 13.34Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo.

15 Mas, se *cp.Fp 3.2;Gl 5.20vós vos mordeis e devorais uns aos outros, vede que não vos consumais uns aos outros.

As obras da carne e o fruto do Espírito

16 Porém digo: *Rm 8.4;13.14;Gl 5.24s.andai pelo Espírito e não satisfareis *Ef 2.3; vd.Rm 13.14a cobiça da carne. 17 Pois *cp.Rm 7.18,23;8.5ss.a carne luta contra o Espírito, e o Espírito, contra a carne, porque estes são opostos um ao outro; de sorte *Rm 7.15ss.que não façais as coisas que quereis. 18 Se, porém, *Rm 8.14sois guiados pelo Espírito, *Rm 6.14;7.4;1Tm 1.9não estais debaixo da Lei. 19 Ora, as obras da carne são manifestas, *cp.Mt 15.19;Rm 13.13as quais são: *vd.1Co 6.9,18;2Co 12.21a fornicação, a impureza, a lascívia, 20 a idolatria, *Ap 21.8a feitiçaria, as inimizades, *2Co 12.20as contendas, os ciúmes, as iras, *vd.Rm 2.8;Tg 3.14ss.as facções, as dissensões, *vd.1Co 11.19os partidos, 21 as invejas, *Rm 13.13as bebedices, as orgias e outras coisas semelhantes, contra as quais vos previno, como já vos preveni, que os que tais coisas praticam não *vd.1Co 6.9herdarão o reino de Deus. 22 Mas *cp.Mt 7.10ss.;Rm 6.21;Ef 5.9o fruto do Espírito é *1Co 13.4; cp.Rm 5.1-5;Cl 3.12-15a caridade, o gozo, a paz, a longanimidade, a benignidade, a bondade, a fidelidade, 23 a mansidão, *vd.At 24.25a temperança. Contra tais coisas *vd.Gl 5.18não há lei. 24 Os que são de *vd.Gl 3.26Cristo Jesus *vd.Rm 6.6; cp.Gl 2.20;6.14crucificaram a carne com *vd.Gl 5.16s.as suas paixões e cobiças.

25 Se vivemos pelo Espírito, andemos também *vd.Gl 5.16pelo Espírito. 26 Não nos tornemos *Fp 2.3vangloriosos, provocando uns aos outros, tendo inveja uns dos outros.

1 Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

2 Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing. 3 Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love.

7 You were running well! Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. 9 A little yeast grows through the whole lump. 10 I have confidence toward you in the Lord that you will think no other way. But he who troubles you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.

11 But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been removed. 12 I wish that those who disturb you would cut themselves off.

13 For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants to one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."✝5:14 Leviticus 19:18 15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you don’t consume one another.

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,*5:22 or, faithfulness 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.
