1 Desejamos dar-vos a conhecer, irmãos, a graça que Deus concedeu às igrejas da Macedônia.2 Em meio a tantas tribulações com que foram provadas, espalharam generosamente e com transbordante alegria, apesar de sua extrema pobreza, os tesouros de sua liberalidade.3 Sou testemunha de que, segundo as suas forças, e até além dessas forças, contribuíram espontaneamente4 e nos pediam com muita insistência o favor de poderem se associar neste socorro destinado aos irmãos.5 E ultrapassaram nossas expectativas. Primeiro deram-se a si mesmos ao Senhor e, depois, a nós, pela vontade de Deus.6 De maneira que recomendamos a Tito que leve a termo entre vós esta obra de caridade, como havia começado.7 Vós vos distinguis em tudo: na fé, na eloqüência, no conhecimento, no zelo de todo o gênero e no afeto para conosco. Cuidai de ser notáveis também nesta obra de caridade.8 Não o digo como quem manda, mas, para exemplo do zelo dos outros, quisera pôr em prova a sinceridade de vossa caridade.9 Vós conheceis a bondade de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. Sendo rico, se fez pobre por vós, a fim de vos enriquecer por sua pobreza.10 Aqui vos dou apenas um conselho. Isso vos convém. Há um ano fostes os primeiros, não só a iniciar esta obra, mas mesmo os primeiros a sugeri-la.11 Agora, pois, levai a termo a obra, para que, como houve prontidão em querer, assim também haja para a concluir, segundo as vossas posses.12 Quando se dá de bom coração segundo as posses {evidentemente não do que não se tem}, sempre se é bem recebido.13 Não se trata de aliviar os outros fazendo-vos sofrer penúria, mas sim que haja igualdade entre vós.14 Nas atuais circunstâncias, vossa abundância supra a indigência daqueles, para que, por seu turno, a abundância deles venha a suprir a vossa indigência. Assim reinará a igualdade,15 como está escrito: O que colheu muito, não teve sobra; e o que pouco colheu, não teve falta {Ex 16,18}.16 Bendito seja Deus, por ter posto no coração de Tito a mesma solicitude por vós.17 Não só recebeu bem o meu pedido, mas, no ardor do seu zelo, espontaneamente partiu para vos visitar.18 Juntamente com ele enviamos o irmão, cujo renome na pregação do Evangelho se espalha em todas as igrejas.19 Não só isto, mas foi destinado também pelos sufrágios das igrejas para nosso companheiro de viagem, nesta obra de caridade, que por nós é administrada para a glória do Senhor, em testemunho da nossa boa vontade.20 Queremos evitar assim que alguém nos censure por motivo desta importante coleta que empreendemos,21 porque procuramos fazer o bem, não só diante do Senhor, senão também diante dos homens.22 Com eles enviamos ainda outro nosso irmão, cujo zelo pudemos comprovar várias vezes e em diversas ocasiões. Desta vez se mostrará ainda mais zeloso, em razão da grande confiança que tem em vós.23 Quanto a Tito, é o meu companheiro e o meu colaborador junto de vós; quanto aos nossos irmãos, são legados das igrejas, que são a glória de Cristo.24 Portanto, em presença das igrejas, demonstrai-lhes vossa caridade e o verdadeiro motivo da ufania que sentimos por vós.

1 Likewise, brethren, we make known unto you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia,2 how that in a great trial of tribulation the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.3 For to [their] power, I bear record, and even beyond [their] power [they were] willing of themselves,4 praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the grace and [take upon us] the fellowship of the ministry to the saints.5 And [this they did], not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord and [then] unto us by the will of God.6 Insomuch that we exhorted Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete among you the same grace also.7 Therefore, as ye abound in every [thing], in faith and in word and in knowledge and in all diligence and in your love to us, [see] that ye abound in this grace also.8 I speak not as commanding, but by occasion of the diligence of others and to prove the sincerity of your charity.9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be enriched.10 And in this I give [my] advice, for this is expedient for you, who began not only to do, but also to be diligent a year ago.11 Now therefore finish the doing [of it] that as [there was] a readiness to will, so [there may] also [be] a performance out of that which ye have.12 For if there is first a willing desire, [it is] accepted according to what a person has [and] not according to what they do not have.13 For [I mean] not that others be eased and ye burdened,14 but by an equality, [that] now at this time your abundance [may be a supply] for their want that their abundance also may be [a supply] for your want, that there may be equality:15 As it is written, He that [had gathered] much had nothing over, and he that [had gathered] little had no lack.16 But thanks [be] to God, who put the same diligence into the heart of Titus for you.17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation, but being more diligent, of his own accord he went unto you.18 And we have sent with him the brother whose praise [is] in the gospel throughout all the churches,19 and not [that] only, but who was also ordained by the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord and [declaration of] your ready desire,20 avoiding that anyone should blame us regarding this abundance which is ministered by us,21 providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which [we have] in you.23 Regarding Titus, [he is] my partner and fellowhelper concerning you; or regarding our brethren, [they are] the apostles of the churches [and] the glory of Christ.24 Therefore show ye unto them before the churches, the proof of your charity and of our glorying regarding you.:
