1 É esta a terceira vez que vou visitar-vos. Pelo depoimento de duas ou três testemunhas se resolve toda a questão.2 Quando de minha segunda visita, já adverti àqueles que pecaram, e hoje, que estou ausente, torno a repeti-lo a eles e aos demais: se eu for outra vez, não usarei de perdão!3 Simplesmente porque exigis a prova de que é Cristo que fala em mim. Ora, para convosco ele não é fraco, mas exerce o seu poder entre vós.4 É verdade que ele foi crucificado por fraqueza, mas está vivo pelo poder de Deus. Também nós somos fracos nele, mas com ele viveremos, pelo poder de Deus para atuar entre vós.5 Examinai-vos a vós mesmos, se estais na fé. Provai-vos a vós mesmos. Acaso não reconheceis que Cristo Jesus está em vós? A menos que a prova vos seja, talvez, desfavorável.6 Mas espero que reconhecereis que ela não é contra nós.7 Entretanto, rogamos a Deus que não façais mal algum, não para que pareçamos aprovados, mas para que vós façais o bem, embora nós sejamos tidos como reprovados.8 Contra a verdade não temos poder algum; temo-lo apenas em prol da verdade.9 Alegramo-nos de ver-vos fortes, enquanto nós somos fracos. E até oramos por vossa perfeição.10 Eis por que eu vos escrevo de longe para que, estando presente, não tenha que usar de rigor, em vista do poder que o Senhor me conferiu para edificar, e não para destruir.11 Por fim, irmãos, vivei com alegria. Tendei à perfeição, animai-vos, tende um só coração, vivei em paz, e o Deus de amor e paz estará convosco.12 Saudai-vos uns aos outros no ósculo santo.13 Todos os santos vos saúdam.14 A graça do Senhor Jesus Cristo, o amor de Deus e a comunhão do Espírito Santo estejam com todos vós!

1 This third time I am coming unto you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.2 I told you before and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now, I write to those who until now have sinned and to all others that, if I come again, I will not spare,3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who unto you is not weak, but is mighty in you.4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives by the power of God. By which we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God in you.5 Examine yourselves whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Do ye not know your own selves if Jesus Christ is in you? Unless ye are reprobates.6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil, not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is good, though we be as reprobates.8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.9 By which we are glad that we are weak and ye are strong, and even so we pray for your perfection.10 Therefore I write these things being absent lest being present I should treat you with more severity, according to the power which the Lord has given me for edification, and not for destruction.11 For the rest, brethren, that ye may have joy, be perfected, have consolation, be of one mind, having peace; and the God of peace and charity shall be with you.12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.13 All the saints salute you.14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the charity of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit [be] with you all.
