1 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: quem não entra pela porta no aprisco das ovelhas, mas sobe por outra parte, é ladrão e salteador.2 Mas quem entra pela porta é o pastor das ovelhas.3 A este o porteiro abre, e as ovelhas ouvem a sua voz. Ele chama as ovelhas pelo nome e as conduz à pastagem.4 Depois de conduzir todas as suas ovelhas para fora, vai adiante delas; e as ovelhas seguem-no, pois lhe conhecem a voz.5 Mas não seguem o estranho; antes fogem dele, porque não conhecem a voz dos estranhos.6 Jesus disse-lhes essa parábola, mas não entendiam do que ele queria falar.7 Jesus tornou a dizer-lhes: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: eu sou a porta das ovelhas.8 Todos quantos vieram antes de mim foram ladrões e salteadores, mas as ovelhas não os ouviram.9 Eu sou a porta. Se alguém entrar por mim será salvo; tanto entrará como sairá e encontrará pastagem.10 O ladrão não vem senão para furtar, matar e destruir. Eu vim para que as ovelhas tenham vida e para que a tenham em abundância.11 Eu sou o bom pastor. O bom pastor expõe a sua vida pelas ovelhas.12 O mercenário, porém, que não é pastor, a quem não pertencem as ovelhas, quando vê que o lobo vem vindo, abandona as ovelhas e foge; o lobo rouba e dispersa as ovelhas.13 O mercenário, porém, foge, porque é mercenário e não se importa com as ovelhas.14 Eu sou o bom pastor. Conheço as minhas ovelhas e as minhas ovelhas conhecem a mim,15 como meu Pai me conhece e eu conheço o Pai. Dou a minha vida pelas minhas ovelhas.16 Tenho ainda outras ovelhas que não são deste aprisco. Preciso conduzi-las também, e ouvirão a minha voz e haverá um só rebanho e um só pastor.17 O Pai me ama, porque dou a minha vida para a retomar.18 Ninguém a tira de mim, mas eu a dou de mim mesmo e tenho o poder de a dar, como tenho o poder de a reassumir. Tal é a ordem que recebi de meu Pai.19 A propósito dessas palavras, originou-se nova divisão entre os judeus.20 Muitos deles diziam: Ele está possuído do demônio. Ele delira. Por que o escutais vós?21 Outros diziam: Estas palavras não são de quem está endemoninhado. Acaso pode o demônio abrir os olhos a um cego?22 Celebrava-se em Jerusalém a festa da Dedicação. Era inverno.23 Jesus passeava no templo, no pórtico de Salomão.24 Os judeus rodearam-no e perguntaram-lhe: Até quando nos deixarás na incerteza? Se tu és o Cristo, dize-nos claramente.25 Jesus respondeu-lhes : Eu vo-lo digo, mas não credes. As obras que faço em nome de meu Pai, estas dão testemunho de mim.26 Entretanto, não credes, porque não sois das minhas ovelhas.27 As minhas ovelhas ouvem a minha voz, eu as conheço e elas me seguem.28 Eu llhes dou a vida eterna; elas jamais hão de perecer, e ninguém as roubará de minha mão.29 Meu Pai, que mas deu, é maior do que todos; e ninguém as pode arrebatar da mão de meu Pai.30 Eu e o Pai somos um.31 Os judeus pegaram pela segunda vez em pedras para o apedejar.32 Disse-lhes Jesus: Tenho-vos mostrado muitas obras boas da parte de meu Pai. Por qual dessas obras me apedrejais?33 Os judeus responderam-lhe: Não é por causa de alguma boa obra que te queremos apedrejar, mas por uma blasfêmia, porque, sendo homem, te fazes Deus.34 Replicou-lhes Jesus: Não está escrito na vossa lei: Eu disse: Vós sois deuses {Sl 81,6}?35 Se a lei chama deuses àqueles a quem a palavra de Deus foi dirigida {ora, a Escritura não pode ser desprezada},36 como acusais de blasfemo aquele a quem o Pai santificou e enviou ao mundo, porque eu disse: Sou o Filho de Deus?37 Se eu não faço as obras de meu Pai, não me creiais.38 Mas se as faço, e se não quiserdes crer em mim, crede nas minhas obras, para que saibais e reconheçais que o Pai está em mim e eu no Pai.39 Procuraram então prendê-lo, mas ele se esquivou das suas mãos.40 Ele se retirou novamente para além do Jordão, para o lugar onde João começara a batizar, e lá permaneceu.41 Muitos foram a ele e diziam: João não fez milagre algum,42 mas tudo o que João falou deste homem era verdade. E muitos acreditaram nele.

1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.2 But he that enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.3 To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.4 And when he puts forth his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.5 And they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.6 Jesus spoke this parable unto them, but they did not understand what it was that he spoke unto them.7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I AM the door of the sheep.8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.9 I AM the door; whosoever enters in by me shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.10 The thief comes not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy [the sheep]; I am come that they might have life and that they might have [it] in abundance.11 I AM the good shepherd; the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.12 But the hireling, who is not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches them and scatters the sheep.13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling, and the sheep do not belong to him.14 I AM the good shepherd, and know my [sheep] and am known of mine.15 As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father, and I lay down my soul for the sheep.16 And I have other sheep which are not of this fold; it is expedient that I bring them also, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold [and] one shepherd.17 Therefore does my Father love me, because I lay down my soul that I might take it again.18 No man takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment I have received of my Father.19 There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these words.20 And many of them said, He has a demon and is beside himself; why do ye hear him?21 Others said, These are not the words of him that has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?22 And they celebrated the dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.24 Then the Jews came round about him and said unto him, Until when wilt thou hold our soul in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly.25 Jesus answered them, I have told you, and ye do not believe; the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.26 But ye believe not because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;28 and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand.29 My Father, who gave [them to] me, is greater than all; and no one is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.30 I and [my] Father are one.31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we do not stone thee, but for blasphemy; and because thou, being a man, makest thyself God.34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?35 If he called them gods unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken),36 do ye say of him whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God?37 If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me.38 But if I do, though ye do not believe me, believe the works that ye may know and believe that the Father [is] in me and I in him.39 Therefore they sought again to take him, but he escaped out of their hand40 and went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized, and there he abode.41 And many came unto him and said, John certainly did no sign, but all [the] things that John spoke of this man were true.42 And many believed in him there.:
