1 Disse-vos essas coisas para vos preservar de alguma queda.2 Expulsar-vos-ão das sinagogas, e virá a hora em que todo aquele que vos tirar a vida julgará prestar culto a Deus.3 Procederão deste modo porque não conheceram o Pai, nem a mim.4 Disse-vos, porém, essas palavras para que, quando chegar a hora, vos lembreis de que vo-lo anunciei. E não vo-las disse desde o princípio, porque estava convosco.5 Agora vou para aquele que me enviou, e ninguém de vós me pergunta: Para onde vais?6 Mas porque vos falei assim, a tristeza encheu o vosso coração.7 Entretanto, digo-vos a verdade: convém a vós que eu vá! Porque, se eu não for, o Paráclito não virá a vós; mas se eu for, vo-lo enviarei.8 E, quando ele vier, convencerá o mundo a respeito do pecado, da justiça e do juízo.9 Convencerá o mundo a respeito do pecado, que consiste em não crer em mim.10 Ele o convencerá a respeito da justiça, porque eu me vou para junto do meu Pai e vós já não me vereis;11 ele o convencerá a respeito do juízo, que consiste em que o príncipe deste mundo já está julgado e condenado.12 Muitas coisas ainda tenho a dizer-vos, mas não as podeis suportar agora.13 Quando vier o Paráclito, o Espírito da Verdade, ensinar-vos-á toda a verdade, porque não falará por si mesmo, mas dirá o que ouvir, e anunciar-vos-á as coisas que virão.14 Ele me glorificará, porque receberá do que é meu, e vo-lo anunciará.15 Tudo o que o Pai possui é meu. Por isso, disse: Há de receber do que é meu, e vo-lo anunciará.16 Ainda um pouco de tempo, e já me não vereis; e depois mais um pouco de tempo, e me tornareis a ver, porque vou para junto do Pai.17 Nisso alguns dos seus discípulos perguntavam uns aos outros: Que é isso que ele nos diz: Ainda um pouco de tempo, e não me vereis; e depois mais um pouco de tempo, e me tornareis a ver? E que significa também: Eu vou para o Pai?18 Diziam então: Que significa este pouco de tempo de que fala? Não sabemos o que ele quer dizer.19 Jesus notou que lho queriam perguntar e disse-lhes: Perguntais uns aos outros acerca do que eu disse: Ainda um pouco de tempo, e não me vereis; e depois mais um pouco de tempo, e me tornareis a ver.20 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: haveis de lamentar e chorar, mas o mundo se há de alegrar. E haveis de estar tristes, mas a vossa tristeza se há de transformar em alegria.21 Quando a mulher está para dar à luz, sofre porque veio a sua hora. Mas, depois que deu à luz a criança, já não se lembra da aflição, por causa da alegria que sente de haver nascido um homem no mundo.22 Assim também vós: sem dúvida, agora estais tristes, mas hei de ver-vos outra vez, e o vosso coração se alegrará e ninguém vos tirará a vossa alegria.23 Naquele dia não me perguntareis mais coisa alguma. Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: o que pedirdes ao Pai em meu nome, ele vo-lo dará.24 Até agora não pedistes nada em meu nome. Pedi e recebereis, para que a vossa alegria seja perfeita.25 Disse-vos essas coisas em termos figurados e obscuros. Vem a hora em que já não vos falarei por meio de comparações e parábolas, mas vos falarei abertamente a respeito do Pai.26 Naquele dia pedireis em meu nome, e já não digo que rogarei ao Pai por vós.27 Pois o mesmo Pai vos ama, porque vós me amastes e crestes que saí de Deus.28 Saí do Pai e vim ao mundo. Agora deixo o mundo e volto para junto do Pai.29 Disseram-lhe os seus discípulos: Eis que agora falas claramente e a tua linguagem já não é figurada e obscura.30 Agora sabemos que conheces todas as coisas e que não necessitas que alguém te pergunte. Por isso, cremos que saíste de Deus.31 Jesus replicou-lhes: Credes agora!...32 Eis que vem a hora, e ela já veio, em que sereis espalhados, cada um para o seu lado, e me deixareis sozinho. Mas não estou só, porque o Pai está comigo.33 Referi-vos essas coisas para que tenhais a paz em mim. No mundo haveis de ter aflições. Coragem! Eu venci o mundo.

1 These things I have spoken unto you that ye should not be offended.2 They shall put you out of the synagogues, and the hour will even come when whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.3 And they will do these things unto you because they do not know the Father, nor me.4 But I have told you these things that when that hour shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And I did not say these things unto you at the beginning because I was with you.5 But now I go unto him that sent me, and none of you asks me, Where goest thou?6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart.7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment:9 of sin, because they do not believe in me;10 of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;11 of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak, and he will cause you to know the things which are to come.14 He shall clarify me, for he shall take of that which is mine and shall cause you to know [it].15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he shall take of that which is mine and shall cause you to know [it].16 A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.17 Then [some] of his disciples said among themselves, What is this that he says unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me; and, Because I go to the Father?18 They said therefore, What is this that he says, A little while? we cannot understand what he says.19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of what I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, and the world shall rejoice; but even though ye shall be sorrowful, your sorrow shall be turned into joy.21 The woman, when she is in travail, has pain, because her hour is come; but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers the anguish no more, for joy that a man is born into the world.22 And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no one shall take your joy from you.23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give you.24 Until now ye have asked nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fulfilled.25 I have spoken these things unto you in proverbs, but the hour comes when I shall no longer speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father.26 In that day ye shall ask in my name, and I do not say unto you that I will ask the Father for you;27 for the Father himself loves you because ye have loved me and have believed that I came out from God.28 I came forth from the Father and am come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father.29 His disciples said unto him, Behold, now thou speakest plainly and speakest no proverb.30 Now we understand that thou knowest all things and needest not that anyone should ask thee; by this we believe that thou didst come forth from God.31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?32 Behold, the hour comes and is now come, that ye shall be scattered, each one to his own, and shall leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.33 These things I have spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.:
