1 Naquele mesmo tempo o Senhor disse-me: corta duas tábuas de pedra semelhantes às primeiras, e sobe para junto de mim no monte, depois de ter fabricado uma arca de madeira.2 Escreverei nessas tábuas as, palavras que se achavam nas primeiras que quebraste, e tu as porás na arca.3 - Fiz, pois, uma arca de madeira de acácia, e cortei duas tábuas de pedra semelhantes às primeiras; depois disso, com as duas tábuas na mão, subi ao monte.4 O Senhor gravou nas novas pedras o que tinha escrito nas primeiras, as dez palavras que ele vos tinha dirigido no monte, do meio do fogo, no dia da assembléia. Devolveu-mas em seguida, e5 desci da montanha para depô-las na arca que tinha feito. E elas lá estão, como o Senhor me tinha ordenado.6 Os israelitas partiram de Beerot-Bene-Jacã para Mosera, onde morreu Aarão. Seu filho Eleazar exerceu as funções sacerdotais em seu lugar, depois que foi enterrado ali.7 Dali, foram a Gadgad, de Gadgad a Jetebata, onde havia água e torrentes em abundância.8 Foi nesse mesmo tempo que o Senhor designou a tribo de Levi para levar a arca da aliança do Senhor, para estar na sua presença, servi-lo e abençoar em seu nome, o que ela continua fazendo sempre.9 Por isso Levi não teve parte nem herança com seus irmãos: porque o Senhor mesmo é o seu patrimônio, como lhe prometeu o Senhor, teu Deus.10 Como da primeira vez, fiquei sobre o monte quarenta dias e quarenta noites, e ainda dessa vez o Senhor ouviu-me, e renunciou a destruir-te.11 Mas disse-me: vai e marcha à frente do povo, para que entre e possua a terra que jurei a seus pais dar-lhe.12 E agora, ó Israel, o que pede a ti o Senhor, teu Deus, senão que o temas, andando nos seus caminhos, amando-o e servindo-o de todo o teu coração e de toda a tua alma,13 observando os mandamentos do Senhor e suas leis, que hoje te prescrevo, para que sejas feliz?14 Vê: ao Senhor, teu Deus, pertencem os céus e os céus dos céus, a terra e tudo o que nela se encontra.15 Não obstante, só a teus pais se apegou o Senhor com amor, e elegeu a sua posteridade, depois deles, a vós, dentre todas as nações, como o vedes presentemente.16 Cortai, pois, o prepúcio de vosso coração, e cessai de endurecer vossa cerviz;17 porque o Senhor, vosso Deus, é o Deus dos deuses e o Senhor dos senhores, o Deus grande, poderoso e temível, que não faz distinção de pessoas, nem aceita presentes.18 Ele faz justiça ao órfão e à viúva, e ama o estrangeiro, ao qual dá alimento e vestuário.19 Também vós, amai o estrangeiro, porque fostes estrangeiros no Egito.20 Temerás o Senhor, teu Deus, e o servirás. Estarás unido a ele, e só pelo seu nome farás os teus juramentos.21 Ele é a tua glória e o teu Deus, que fez por ti estas grandes e terríveis coisas que viste com os teus olhos.22 Quando os teus pais desceram ao Egito eram em número de setenta pessoas, e agora o Senhor, teu Deus, multiplicou-te como as estrelas do céu.

1 At that time the Lord said unto me, Hew for thyself two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount; and make thyself an ark of wood.2 And I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables which thou hast broken; and thou shalt put them in the ark.3 And I made an ark of shittim–wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and I went up into the mount, with the two tables in my hand.4 And he wrote on the tables, like the first writing, the ten commandments, which the Lord had spoken unto you on the mount out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the Lord gave them unto me.5 And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and I put the tables in the ark which I had made; and they have remained there, as the Lord hath commanded me.6 And the children of Israel took their journey from the wells of the children of Ya’akan to Mosserah: there Aaron died, and he was buried there; and Elazar his son became priest in his stead.7 From there they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Yotbatha, a land of brooks of waters.8 At that time did the Lord separate the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.9 Therefore was not assigned unto Levi any portion or inheritance with his brethren: the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord thy God hath spoken to him.10 And I stayed on the mount, like the first days, forty days and forty nights; and the Lord hearkened unto me also at that time, the Lord would not destroy thee.11 And the Lord said unto me, Arise, go on the journey before the people, that they may go in and take possession of the land, which I have sworn unto their fathers to give unto them.12 And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,13 To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy own good?14 Behold, to the Lord thy God belong the heavens and the heavens of heavens, and the earth with all that is thereon;15 Yet only in thy fathers had the Lord delight, to love them; he chose, therefore, their seed after them, namely you, from all the nations, as it is this day.16 Remove therefore the obduracy of your heart, and be no more stiff–necked.17 For the Lord your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who hath no regard to persons, and taketh no bribe;18 Who executeth justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loveth the stranger, to give him food and raiment.19 Love ye then the stranger; for you have been strangers in the land of Egypt.20 The Lord thy God shalt thou fear: him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and by his name shalt thou swear.21 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, who hath done for thee these great and fearful things, which thy own eyes have seen.22 With seventy persons did thy fathers go down into Egypt; and now the Lord thy God hath made thee like the stars of heaven in multitude.
