Amós 2

1 Yahweh says:

"For three transgressions of Moab, yes, for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime;

2 but I will send a fire on Moab,

and it will devour the palaces of Kerioth;

and Moab will die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet;

3 and I will cut off the judge from among them,

and will kill all its princes with him,"

says Yahweh.

4 Yahweh says:

"For three transgressions of Judah, yes, for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

because they have rejected Yahweh’s law,

and have not kept his statutes,

and their lies have led them astray,

after which their fathers walked;

5 but I will send a fire on Judah,

and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem."

6 Yahweh says:

"For three transgressions of Israel, yes, for four,

I will not turn away its punishment,

because they have sold the righteous for silver,

and the needy for a pair of sandals;

7 They trample the heads of the poor into the dust of the earth

and deny justice to the oppressed.

A man and his father use the same maiden, to profane my holy name.

8 They lay themselves down beside every altar on clothes taken in pledge.

In the house of their God*2:8 The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "אֱלֹהִ֑ים" (Elohim). they drink the wine of those who have been fined.

9 Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them,

whose height was like the height of the cedars,

and he was strong as the oaks;

yet I destroyed his fruit from above,

and his roots from beneath.

10 Also I brought you up out of the land of Egypt

and led you forty years in the wilderness,

to possess the land of the Amorite.

11 I raised up some of your sons for prophets,

and some of your young men for Nazirites.

Isn’t this true,

you children of Israel?" says Yahweh.

12 "But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink,

and commanded the prophets, saying, ‘Don’t prophesy!’

13 Behold,*2:13 "Behold", from "הִנֵּה", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. I will crush you in your place,

as a cart crushes that is full of grain.

14 Flight will perish from the swift.

The strong won’t strengthen his force.

The mighty won’t deliver himself.

15 He who handles the bow won’t stand.

He who is swift of foot won’t escape.

He who rides the horse won’t deliver himself.

16 He who is courageous among the mighty

will flee away naked on that day,"

says Yahweh.

4 Ko te kupu tēnei a Ihowā:

āe rā, ka whā, nā, e kore e whakatahuritia atu e ahau te whiu mōna;

nō te mea kua whakahāwea rātou ki te Ture a Ihowā,

kīhai hoki i pupuri i āna tikanga,

ā, kua meinga rātou e ā rātou kōrero teka kia kotiti kē,

i whāia nei e ō rātou mātua.

5 Engari, ka tukua e ahau he ahi ki a Hūrā,

ā, pau ake i reira ngā whare kīngi o Hiruhārama."

6 Ko te kupu tēnei a Ihowā:

"Ka toru nei ngā pokanga kētanga o Īharaira,

āe rā, ka whā, nā, e kore e whakatahuritia atu e ahau te whiu mōna;

nō te mea kua hokona e rātou te tangata tika ki te hiriwa,

te rawakore ki ngā hū e rua.

7 E minamina ana rātou ki te puehu o te whenua i runga i te māhunga o ngā ware;

ā, whakaparoritia ake e rātou te ara o te hunga māhaki;

ā, ka haere te tangata rāua ko tōna pāpā ki te kōtiro kotahi

hei whakapoke i tōku ingoa tapu.

8 Nā, takoto ana rātou ki te taha o ngā āta katoa

i runga i ngā kākahu i hōmai hei taunaha,

ā, i roto i te whare o tō rātou atua kei te inu rātou

i te wāina a te hunga i whakataua nei te hē ki a rātou.

9 "Otiia, i whakangaromia e ahau te Amori i tō rātou aroaro,

ko tōna roa koia anō kei te roa o te hīta,

ā, he kaha ia, pērā i ngā oki.

Heoi, whakangaromia ana e ahau ōna hua i runga,

ōna pakiaka i raro.

10 "I kawea mai anō hoki koutou e ahau i te whenua o Īhipa,

ā, e whā tekau ngā tau i ārahina ai koutou i te koraha,

he mea kia riro mai ai te whenua o te Amori.

11 Ā, i whakaarahia ake e ahau ētahi o ā koutou tama hei poropiti,

ētahi hoki o ā koutou taitama hei Natari.

He teka ianei tēnā, e ngā tama a Īharaira?"

12 "Heoi, i whakainumia e koutou ngā Natari ki te wāina,

ā, i ako hoki ki ngā poropiti,

i mea, ‘Kaua e poropiti!’

13 "Nanā, ka pēhia koutou e ahau ki tō koutou wāhi,

ka pērā i te pēhanga a te kāta

e kī ana i ngā paihere.

14 Nā, ka kore te oma i te tangata tere,

e kore e nui ake te kaha o te tangata kaha,

e kore hoki te mārohirohi e mawhiti i te mate;

15 e kore anō te kaipupuri o te kōpere e tū;

e kore hoki te wae tere e whakaora i a ia anō;

e kore anō hoki te tangata eke hōiho e mawhiti i te mate.

16 Ā, ko te tangata māia i roto i ngā mārohirohi,

ka rere tahanga atu i taua rā,"
