1 For it is my desire to give you news of the great fight I am making for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not seen my face in the flesh;

2 So that their hearts may be comforted, and that being joined together in love, they may come to the full wealth of the certain knowledge of the secret of God, even Christ,

3 In whom are all the secret stores of wisdom and knowledge.

4 I say this so that you may not be turned away by any deceit of words.

5 For though I am not present in the flesh, still I am with you in the spirit, seeing with joy your order, and your unchanging faith in Christ.

6 As, then, you took Christ Jesus the Lord, so go on in him,

7 Rooted and based together in him, strong in the faith which the teaching gave you, giving praise to God at all times.

8 Take care that no one takes you away by force, through man's wisdom and deceit, going after the beliefs of men and the theories of the world, and not after Christ:

9 For in him all the wealth of God's being has a living form,

10 And you are complete in him, who is the head of all rule and authority:

11 In whom you had a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ;

12 Having been put to death with him in baptism, by which you came to life again with him, through faith in the working of God, who made him come back from the dead.

13 And you, being dead through your sins and the evil condition of your flesh, to you, I say, he gave life together with him, and forgiveness of all our sins;

14 Having put an end to the handwriting of the law which was against us, taking it out of the way by nailing it to his cross;

15 Having made himself free from the rule of authorities and powers, he put them openly to shame, glorying over them in it.

16 For this reason let no man be your judge in any question of food or drink or feast days or new moons or Sabbaths:

17 For these are an image of the things which are to come; but the body is Christ's.

18 Let no man take your reward from you by consciously making little of himself and giving worship to angels; having his thoughts fixed on the things which he has seen, being foolishly lifted up in his natural mind,

19 And not joined to the Head, from whom all the body, being given strength and kept together through its joins and bands, has its growth with the increase of God.

20 If you were made free, by your death with Christ, from the rules of the world, why do you put yourselves under the authority of orders

21 Which say there may be no touching, tasting, or taking in your hands,

22 (Rules which are all to come to an end with their use) after the orders and teaching of men?

23 These things seem to have a sort of wisdom in self-ordered worship and making little of oneself, and being cruel to the body, not honouring it by giving it its natural use.

1 Eu quero que saibam como luto muito por vocês, pelos crentes de Laodiceia, e em geral por todos os que até nem me conhecem pessoalmente.

2 O meu alvo é estejam encorajados, unidos no amor cristão, e enriquecidos com uma compreensão perfeita desse tal plano de Deus agora descoberto, que é Cristo,

3 em quem estão como que armazenados todos os tesouros da ciência e da sabedoria.

4 E se eu digo isto é para que ninguém vos engane com palavras sedutoras.

5 Porque ainda que eu esteja longe, contudo em espírito estou convosco, alegrando-me por constatar que estão a viver como devem, e também pela firmeza da vossa fé em Cristo.

6 Sendo então que vocês receberam já Jesus Cristo como vosso Senhor, procurem agora andar nele./

7 Que as raízes do vosso ser se implantem em Cristo, que Cristo seja o alicerce sobre o qual a vossa vida é construída com solidez, através da vossa fé nele, fiéis ao que vos foi ensinado, e abundando em gratidão a Deus, por tudo que ele tem feito.

8 Tenham cuidado para que ninguém vos domine por meio de filosofias engenhosas e enganadoras, baseadas em tradições humanas e reflectindo a sabedoria falível deste mundo, mas que não corresponde à doutrina de Cristo.

9 Com efeito, na própria pessoa de Cristo habita corporalmente toda a plenitude da divindade.ÿ

10 Portanto, estando em comunhão com Cristo, temos tudo através dele, que está sobre toda a autoridade ou governo

11 É em Cristo que participamos na verdadeira circuncisão, aquela que consiste, não num corte físico feito no corpo humano, mas na circuncisão de Cristo, que nos liberta da nossa natureza pecadora.

12 Quando se baptizaram, foram como que sepultados com Cristo; e, pela fé no poder de Deus que o ressuscitou dos mortos, também renasceram.

13 Estando mortos devido ao pecado que dominava a vossa vida, Deus vos deu uma nova vida juntamente com Cristo, perdoando-vos todos os pecados.

14 O nosso cadastro, que nos servia de acusação, foi como que apagado, com todo o rol das nossas transgressões da lei de Deus, e foi pregado na cruz

15 E aí as forças e os poderes foram despojados e foram denunciados perante o mundo inteiro. Cristo, por si mesmo, triunfou sobre eles.

16 Portanto ninguém tem o direito de vos julgar quanto ao que comem ou bebem, nem quanto a comemorações de festas religiosas, ou cerimónias de luas novas ou de sábados

17 Tudo isso não são mais do que actos simbólicos referentes a coisas futuras; mas realidade é Cristo.

18 Que ninguém vos domine sob pretexto de um falso culto de anjos e de formas exteriores de humildade, apoiando-se em visões que afinal nunca tiveram; é gente inchada pela sua própria esperteza:Ò

19 mas a verdade é que não estão ligados à cabeça, à qual todos nós estamos unidos como um corpo estruturado e mantido através dos seus ligamentos, o qual vai crescendo e se desenvolve segundo Deus lhe concede.

20 Se pois vocês já estão mortos com Cristo, porque vos carregam ainda de novos mandamentos como se nada tivesse mudado em relação à velha maneira de viver? E continuam a subjugar-vos com regras como: Não toques nisto, não comas disso, não uses aquilo! Tudo isso não passa de meros preceitos e doutrinas humanas que perdem validade com o tempo.

23 Podem ter uma certa aparência de sabedoria, pela devoção, pela falsa humildade e pela severidade para com o corpo, mas não têm qualquer valor no domínio dos instintos carnais.
