1 And when the day of Pentecost was now accomplishing, they were all together in one place.
2 And there came suddenly a sound out of heaven as of a violent impetuous blowing, and filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared to them parted tongues, as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them.
4 And they were all filled with {the} Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave to them to speak forth.
5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, pious men, from every nation of those under heaven.
6 But the rumour of this having spread, the multitude came together and were confounded, because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect.
7 And all were amazed and wondered, saying, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galilaeans?
8 and how do *we* hear {them} each in our own dialect in which we have been born,
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those who inhabit Mesopotamia, and Judaea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya which adjoin Cyrene, and the Romans sojourning {here}, both Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our own tongues the great things of God?
12 And they were all amazed and in perplexity, saying one to another, What would this mean?
13 But others mocking said, They are full of new wine.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke forth to them, Men of Judaea, and all ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give heed to my words:
15 for these are not full of wine, as *ye* suppose, for it is the third hour of the day;
16 but this is that which was spoken through the prophet Joel,
17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, {that} I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your elders shall dream with dreams;
18 yea, even upon my bondmen and upon my bondwomen in those days will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will give wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 the sun shall be changed to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and gloriously appearing day of {the} Lord come.
21 And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of {the} Lord shall be saved.
22 Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazaraean, a man borne witness to by God to you by works of power and wonders and signs, which God wrought by him in your midst, as yourselves know
23 -him, given up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye, by {the} hand of lawless {men}, have crucified and slain.
24 Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death, inasmuch as it was not possible that he should be held by its power;
25 for David says as to him, I foresaw the Lord continually before me, because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved.
26 Therefore has my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted; yea more, my flesh also shall dwell in hope,
27 for thou wilt not leave my soul in hades, nor wilt thou give thy gracious one to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me {the} paths of life, thou wilt fill me with joy with thy countenance.
29 Brethren, let it be allowed to speak with freedom to you concerning the patriarch David, that he has both died and been buried, and his monument is amongst us unto this day.
30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, of the fruit of his loins to set upon his throne;
31 he, seeing {it} before, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither has he been left in hades nor his flesh seen corruption.
32 This Jesus has God raised up, whereof all *we* are witnesses.
33 Having therefore been exalted by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which *ye* behold and hear.
34 For David has not ascended into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit at my right hand
35 until I have put thine enemies {to be} the footstool of thy feet.
36 Let the whole house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him, this Jesus whom *ye* have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 And having heard {it} they were pricked in heart, and said to Peter and the other apostles, What shall we do, brethren?
38 And Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptised, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for remission of sins, and ye will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For to you is the promise and to your children, and to all who {are} afar off, as many as {the} Lord our God may call.
40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation.
41 Those then who had accepted his word were baptised; and there were added in that day about three thousand souls.
42 And they persevered in the teaching and fellowship of the apostles, in breaking of bread and prayers.
43 And fear was upon every soul, and many wonders and signs took place through the apostles' means.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common,
45 and sold their possessions and substance, and distributed them to all, according as any one might have need.
46 And every day, being constantly in the temple with one accord, and breaking bread in {the} house, they received their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,
47 praising God, and having favour with all the people; and the Lord added {to the assembly} daily those that were to be saved.
1 Et comme le jour de la Pentecôte était venu, ils étaient tous ensemble dans un même lieu.
2 Et il se fit tout à coup un son du ciel, comme [est le son] d'un vent qui souffle avec véhémence, et il remplit toute la maison où ils étaient assis.
3 Et il leur apparut des langues divisées comme de feu, qui se posèrent sur chacun d'eux.
4 Et ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et commencèrent à parler des langues étrangères selon que l'Esprit les faisait parler.
5 Or il y avait à Jérusalem des Juifs qui y séjournaient, hommes dévôts, de toute nation qui est sous le ciel.
6 Et ce bruit ayant été fait, une multitude vint ensemble, qui fut tout émue de ce que chacun les entendait parler en sa propre langue.
7 Ils en étaient donc tout surpris, et s'en étonnaient, disant l'un à l'autre : voici, tous ceux-ci qui parlent ne sont-ils pas Galiléens?
8 Comment donc chacun de nous les entendons-nous parler la propre langue du pays où nous sommes nés?
9 Parthes, Mèdes, Elamites, et nous qui habitons, [les uns] dans la Mésopotamie, [les autres] en Judée, et en Cappadoce, au pays du Pont, et en Asie,
10 En Phrygie, en Pamphylie, en Egypte, et dans ces quartiers de la Libye qui est près de Cyrène, et nous qui demeurons à Rome?
11 Tant Juifs que Prosélytes; Crétois, et Arabes, nous les entendons parler chacun en notre langue, des merveilles de Dieu.
12 Ils étaient donc tout étonnés, et ils ne savaient que penser, disant l'un à l'autre : que veut dire ceci?
13 Mais les autres se moquant disaient : c'est qu'ils sont pleins de vin doux.
14 Mais Pierre se présentant avec les onze, éleva sa voix, et leur dit : hommes Juifs! [et vous] tous qui habitez à Jérusalem, apprenez ceci, et faites attention à mes paroles.
15 Car ceux-ci ne sont point ivres, comme vous pensez, vu que c'est la troisième heure du jour.
16 Mais c'est ici ce qui a été dit par le Prophète Joël :
17 Et il arrivera aux derniers jours, dit Dieu, que je répandrai de mon Esprit sur toute chair; et vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, et vos jeunes gens verront des visions, et vos Anciens songeront des songes.
18 Et même en ces jours-là je répandrai de mon Esprit sur mes serviteurs et sur mes servantes, et ils prophétiseront.
19 Et je ferai des choses merveilleuses dans le ciel en haut, et des prodiges sur la terre en bas, du sang, et du feu, et une vapeur de fumée.
20 Le soleil sera changé en ténèbres, et la lune en sang, avant que ce grand et notable jour du Seigneur vienne.
21 Mais il arrivera que quiconque invoquera le Nom du Seigneur sera sauvé.
22 Hommes Israëlites, écoutez ces paroles! Jésus le Nazarien, personnage approuvé de Dieu entre vous par les miracles, les merveilles, et les prodiges que Dieu a faits par lui au milieu de vous, comme aussi vous le savez;
23 Ayant été livré par le conseil défini et par la providence de Dieu, vous l'avez pris, et mis en croix, et vous l'avez fait mourir par les mains des iniques;
24 [Mais] Dieu l'a ressuscité, ayant brisé les liens de la mort, parce qu'il n'était pas possible qu'il fût retenu par elle.
25 Car David dit de lui : je contemplais toujours le Seigneur en ma présence : car il est à ma droite, afin que je ne sois point ébranlé.
26 C'est pourquoi mon cœur s'est réjoui, et ma langue a tressailli de joie; et de plus, ma chair reposera en espérance.
27 Car tu ne laisseras point mon âme au sépulcre, et tu ne permettras point que ton Saint sente la corruption.
28 Tu m'as fait connaître le chemin de la vie, tu me rempliras de joie en ta présence.
29 Hommes frères, je puis bien vous dire librement touchant le Patriarche David, qu'il est mort, et qu'il a été enseveli, et que son sépulcre est parmi nous jusques à ce jour.
30 Mais comme il était Prophète, et qu'il savait que Dieu lui avait promis avec serment, que du fruit de ses reins il ferait naître selon la chair le Christ, pour le faire asseoir sur son trône;
31 Il a dit de la résurrection de Christ, en la prévoyant, que son âme n'a point été laissée au sépulcre, et que sa chair n'a point senti la corruption.
32 Dieu a ressuscité ce Jésus; de quoi nous sommes tous témoins.
33 Après donc qu'il a été élevé [au ciel] par la puissance de Dieu, et qu'il a reçu de son Père la promesse du Saint-Esprit, il a répandu ce que maintenant vous voyez et ce que vous entendez.
34 Car David n'est pas monté aux cieux; mais lui-même dit : Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur : assieds-toi à ma droite,
35 Jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis pour le marchepied de tes pieds.
36 Que donc toute la maison d'Israël sache certainement que Dieu l'a fait Seigneur et Christ, ce Jésus, [dis-je], que vous avez crucifié.
37 Ayant ouï ces choses, ils eurent le cœur touché de componction, et ils dirent à Pierre et aux autres Apôtres : hommes frères, que ferons-nous?
38 Et Pierre leur dit : amendez-vous, et que chacun de vous soit baptisé au Nom de Jésus-Christ, pour obtenir le pardon de vos péchés, et vous recevrez le don du Saint-Esprit.
39 Car à vous et à vos enfants est faite la promesse, et à tous ceux qui sont loin, autant que le Seigneur notre Dieu en appellera à soi.
40 Et par plusieurs autres paroles il [les] conjurait, et les exhortait, en disant : séparez-vous de cette génération perverse.
41 Ceux donc qui reçurent de bon cœur sa parole, furent baptisés; et en ce jour-là furent ajoutées [à l'Eglise] environ trois mille âmes.
42 Et ils persévéraient tous en la doctrine des Apôtres, et en la communion et la fraction du pain, et dans les prières.
43 Or toute personne avait de la crainte, et beaucoup de miracles et de prodiges se faisaient par les Apôtres.
44 Et tous ceux qui croyaient étaient ensemble en un même lieu, et ils avaient toutes choses communes;
45 Et ils vendaient leurs possessions et leurs biens, et les distribuaient à tous, selon que chacun en avait besoin.
46 Et tous les jours ils persévéraient tous d'un accord dans le Temple; et rompant le pain de maison en maison, ils prenaient leur repas avec joie et avec simplicité de cœur;
47 Louant Dieu, et se rendant agréables à tout le peuple. Et le Seigneur ajoutait tous les jours à l'Eglise des gens pour être sauvés.
